How exactly do you handle the server side mounting and exporting. Say for instance, you have your cdrom in /etc/fstab as /cdrom, and you have it exported via nfs. Are you saying that you don't actually have to mount the cdrom before exporting it, kinda like you normally don't have to mount the cdrom locally before using it w/ yast? And then the client's yast will automatically mount/umount the cdrom over nfs, just like local yast sessions. That would be almost too good to be true! [SLE] remote xhosting?

Hi all I bravely gave my mother a linux system to use so she could email us on the other side of the country. I set up just about everything for her, but I need to do some maintenance locally. What are my options? How difficult would it be to set up, say either a remote login or even a remote xhost so I could see what she's done to her a desktop?! Has anyone tried to do this, and what kind of bandwidth would a remote xsession takeup? I'd be happy with just telnet-ing into her machine and being able to use ftp and so on at the worst case, but it'd be nice to see what she's done to her mailbox so I could try and fix it!! [SLE] Kernel panick and cmos error

Hi, I've been trying to build my own version of the 2.2.16 kernel but seem to be running into a problem. first the kernel goes in to a panic and stops and then when I try to reboot i get a CMOS error "cmos checksum error'. Is it possible that the kernel is trying to tinker with the cmos? Anyway I've done numerous kernel compiles, but this is the first time I've experienced this sort of thing. [SLE] Severe problems with resolution please help

Hello everyone I havent been active on this list for over a year, but recently purchaced Suse 6.4 and installed on a laptop. Here's the specs HP Pavillion N3310 500mhtz amd k6 dual boot with w98. Trident Cyberblade video chip uses 8 meg "shared" memory I does 800x600 nicely in 98... but for the life of me I cant get it to work on Suse. Ive tried Sax - The resolution is *gigantic* so large I cant even exit ;-) xf86config - Tries all combonations of settings I get the same giagantic screen xf86graphic mode - Tried all setting combinations... same thing Ive installed all the approaite servers (I think)Ive got about 6 installed Apparently when I installed I missed the "monitor detection" Any ideas? I really have to get an 800x600 going btw. Suse has done a fabulous job with their new distro. Actually, your problem probably is the eth0. The other NIC, eth1 is reporting oversize frames. It is telling you that something is passing it those frames. The thing that is odd, is that while eth1 is getting bad frames, eth0 is getting an unacceptable amount of collisions. It looks like the 2 are somehow looping back to each other. Check your port assignments on the hub. If you have one nic in the uplink, it could cause this - making eth0 and eth1 loop back to itself. Then, check your other machines. Make sure you didn't inadvertently assign another the same IP. I had this exact same error once, when I plugged the wrong cable into an uplink port on a hub. I had to reboot the host, and the clients, as the packet distortion hosed up almost everything on the LAN. Once I corrected the port assignment, and rebooted, everything was fine. (no more errors) If I understand correctly what your configuration is. You should have the adsl modem plugged into the uplink port, and the other (host and clients) plugged into the other ports. [SLE] TV OUT NOT WORKIN IN SUSE 6.4

Need help on TV Out support for SuSE! i have an SIS530 card with a TV out port running on xfree86 3.3.6 SuSE 6.4. my monitor for 5 years was submitted recently for repair leaving me to use my TV as display monitor for my PC for the meantime. TV out seems to work fine under windows but when I switch to SuSE Linux using X Windows all it displays on the screen is a blue image..... any of you have some ideas or encountered the same situation??.......are there files i need to reconfig....i tried lowering resolution to as low as 640x480 and 256colors but i get the same blank blue screen..... i hope this merits the attention of the SUSE Developers out there in the list. Hello, I have a problem with disk quotas, I have installed SUSE 6.4, and I want to active quotas in one file system, I have changed /etc/fstab Before activate quotas the line was: /dev/hda4 /var reiserfs defaults 1 2 After activate quotas the line is: /dev/hda4 /var reiserfs defaults,usrquota 1 2 I have created /var/quota.user and I execute chmod 600 quota.user I execute quotaon -auvg but I don't obtain any answer, and when I reboot the system, many errors appears, can't start many services like cron and others. And when I execute edquota nom_usuario, the vi editor has invoked but in the file appear Quotas for user peter: I think that something about hard an soft limit had to appear in this point. The problem can be about reiser file system or with the kernel has'nt supported quotas?
