[SLE] Booting problems on 486s

Hi, people. Long time no talk. On some 486s we still use, we have problems installing SuSE 6.4, right at boot. The CD-ROM is not bootable, so we have to resort to boot disquettes. But these cannot be read either. Would it be possible that they use some over-density that older disquette drives cannot read? Besides changing hardware (:-), would someone have an idea about the options left to me? I am looking for some help here.... I have a customer that wants us to get the java stuff working. I have installed the jserv and the JDK and the jserv run time. I have added the jserv.conf to the httpd.conf and tried to configure it.... Whoa there, Roy, not so fast! Ok, she has a dial up connection and so do I, and we both have only a single telephone line in our respective houses - how do I go about making a direct connection to her machine? I've had various suggestions from people here at work, such as getting her to send me an email while both machines are online, so I can find out her dynamic ip address, and then telneting into her machine using that address... I guess ssh need something similar to work? I don't care about netscape being dog slow (what's new?), I just need to see what she's done to her mail folders and some other files on her KDE desktop. I'm hoping to log in as her (would that be possible, if she already has an xsession running?) and do some stuff, including add some stuff to her menu and panel bar etc. Anyhow, any help, howtos, or pointers where to start the learning process will be very much appreciated! k. [SLE] faxing

This is something I've been trying to figure out but cant. I want to be able to fax from my desktop and I know the software is there but not sure how to set it up. I went to the suse web sight read and downloaded the hylafax and the two tiff files. I set that up following the steps in the book. Still not able to fax, and there was something about "sendfax" package. I'm using suse 6.4 with 2.2.14 any help would be gratefull. Looking to understand whats going on in the directory. It throws a lot of data into these files and how often should I go in and clean them out, or does the system clean them out automatically. The machine is an AT&T Globalyst 620 that has 6 72-pin memory slots, I pulled out all the memory and tried set by themself. I also tried pulling out the L2 cache memory. I am still getting the signal 11 error. Anyone have any thoughts on how I can figure out where to problem is? I really cannot afford to pitch this machine. I had a few problems with JServ... but remember that JServ is for Java Servlets... it isn't needed for JAVA .class (Applets) files. In the HTMl it should look like: <APPLET CODE="JAVAAPPLET.CLASS" CODEBASE="RELATIVEPATHOFCODE/" WIDTH="100" HEIGHT="100"> Don't try and call the .class file directly, it won't work AFAIK. If you want to get Servlets working then download Jakarta/Tomcat @ apache.org. It runs on a different port and is a lot easier to set up than mod_jserv.
