[S.u.S.E. Linux] KDE-beta-3 and susewm

Hi All, I'm using S.u.S.E.-5.1. I did not install KDE-beta-1 off the CD because I was already using KDE-beta-3 (which fixes several problems and is anyway better). So I installed KDE-beta-3 from kde.org's own RPMs once S.u.S.E.-5.1 was installed. I suppose this means that the KDE installation is NOT integrated into the susewm configuration setup, as it would have been, I dare say, if I had installed KDE-beta-1 from the CD (the S.u.S.E.-5.1 information booklet says it is "in susewm integriert"). So I would like to ask: having done a "foreign" post-installation of KDE-beta-3, is it possible to retrospectively integrate the installation with susewm? This would be nice, because the installed KDE desktop does not know about the S.u.S.E. packages which were installed off the CD (whereas, for instance, fvwm-2 would know, because susewm would have set up the configuration). [S.u.S.E. Linux] Preserving system changes from YaST

And Hi again! The question this time concerns how to preserve manual changes made to system setup from being re-set by YaST. The simplest answer would be to the question: what files are changed when YaST reconfigures the system? Then, I would know what files to keep "backup" copies of, so that I can then do a "diff" with the new versions created by YaST, restore changed features I want to keep, and allow the changes which I really want. For this reason, there is a tougher sanity enforcement: /usr/bin/reset which, among other things perform an 'stty sane'. So, if 'stty sane' will not bring your sanity back, try 'reset'. Have fun! I used mutt quite often and had no problems with color and rxvt. You can get slang from space.mit.edu which compiled without problem at least here. With the version 1.03 you can also run slrn 0946. If you want you can read JED's comments about xterm-color and his approach which is to use rxvt. By the way I compiled rxvt on SuSE 5.1 with no problems either here. I would definitely try compiling slang and then use the .muttrc to write color statements. It works. It looks especially nice in an rxvt. Also see the mutt world wide web home page from the Linux Apps and Utilities page. BTW, I compiled my own mutt with no problems against the slang library. > ps. I copied all the rpm files from the Applix 4.3.7 cd to my hard disk and ran them there. I had some problems with the cdrom I was using. Actually, it won't be a real logout, but close enough. Now _I_ have a question for you: How can you switch terms if the keyboard is locked? Do you mean that you can't see what your typing? If so, that is a common problem - some programmers forget to return to a sane state. Just enter stty sane and you should be fine. The Wildman ------- There is no gravity. Hi All, I just installed suse and am trying to get mutt to work in color. The version installed with the install is against curses and when I use an xterm window I get just back and white and if I use rxvt it crashes saying there is a problem with xterm-color. I cannot even find xterm-color to install it. I also cannot find a slang library anywhere but I presume there is one since slrn is installed. If anyone who uses mutt with suse can give me a hand I would appreciate it. Thanks Alot. ps. I am also having troulbe installing my AccelX V4.0 and applix 4.3.7 from redhat on my system . kill the shell program. Hi all; Got a question!, Sometimes when I'm playing around with new programs my keyboard locks up. Nothing works, I can only change to another termal (i.e. alt-FX). So far the only way I could get the screen usable again was by rebooting (shutdown now -r) from another termal. The question is: is there a way to force a logout from another term? To test, find a .wav or .au file and do "play filename.au or .wav". The command to enable the OSS sound should be included in one of the init.d files. Disable OSS sound with "soundoff". OSS install puts executable files in /usr/lib/oss so you will have to put sym-links for the play and mplay executables into your path somewhare. I use /usr/local/bin. If you don't have the OSS software, use Yast to load the "wavplay" package. It has an executable called play that is used to play sounds. To enable sound for other them OSS software, you do have to compile sound into either your kernel or a module.
