What's inexpensive? I've used the HP SureStore CDWriter 6020 successfully with my SuSE distribution.. didn't have to get any extra packages from the net. [S.u.S.E. Linux] Modem, ISDN

I have a Zyxel 2864 ISDN modem that connects fine in as a bundled pair under Win NT and Win95; I don't know how to set the thing up in Linux. I'd be happy to just get it up as an analog modem just to get on the net with Linux. Also, I have an Adaptec 3840UW; it seems to be working fine; does the "extended, no_reset" modifiers need to be added to this SCSI device ? It seems to work fine right now (with Linux 5.1). The only bootdisk that is working is the orignal suse5.1 disk (distro boot) and I think it is *386 speed compiled* and *4.1.1 version of aic7xxx* Now the thing is with the '*' notes of intrest. Now my kernel is compiled with 'pentium speed' now if the new bootdisk.img is compiled with 'pentium speed' this might be the reason, tho I don't know if it is. I gona write to SuSE news groups asking if the new bootdisk.img is compiled with 'pentium speed' Ehh.. Ok with that (prob I am not right) but I might be right on why my kernel is failing, as I am compiled with 'pentium speed' and I will be trying after I write this letter, and after downloading a 6meg kernel ver 7, I will compile it with '386 speed' note* I do not have an intel processor, I do have an AMD K6 233, this might make a difference here. I guess I go try, this is an update of what I am doing. Carlos, Thanks for the help. The problem is that I've taken the list of cdrom writers know to be supported (found at www.suse.com) by SuSE to the folks responsible for purchasing. It's been some time now. Apparently, the're having trouble locating any of the drives specified on the list. I may be wrong but I think the cdrom writers on that list are fairly old. I was hoping that someone might recommend a newer model cdrom writer that is known to work with SuSE. I just want to thank you once again for replying to this message. I've got to learn to be more specific. The original message was very unclear. [S.u.S.E. Linux] Help Starting Apps with Afterstep/TkDesk

I use Afterstep vs1.0, and TkDesk. I want to start some apps at startup time, and I need some advice on how to do this correctly. I see where I can start an app (eq tkdesk) from within .xinitrc as a background job. I also see where I can execute an app. from within .steprc in the InitFunction. I believe that I can also have apps executed by tkdesk at execution time (although I don't know how yet:-)) My questions are: 1) which is the best way to start up some basic apps in X Windows (eg. tkdesk, xvtdl, plan, xfmail, netscape, xwpe etc) - as background?? foreground?? 2) how do I get them to start up on specific windows on my desktop?? 3) how do I setup tkdesk to execute apps at startup?? - on specific windows!(i've subscribed to the tkdesk mailing list, but no reply yet) 4) Unrelated - how can I get access to the extra keys on my windoze 104 key keyboard.
