[opensuse] mdadm raid problem

Hello: I have this problem in openSUSE 13.2. My mdadm version is: mdadm --version mdadm - v3.3.1 - 5th June 2014 I have some degraded RAID1 arrays. Before adding back the failed devices to the arrays I would like to mount the devices independently and compare their contents. For example: cat /proc/mdstat Personalities : [raid1] md11 : active raid1 sdb11[3] 62918468 blocks super 1.0 [2/1] [U_] md11 array runs with one device: /dev/sdb11, and it (/dev/md11) is mounted. It's failed counterpart is /dev/sdc11. I would like to assemble /dev/sdc11 to a new array and mount the new array. Previously (in openSUSE 12.2, eg.) I could simply do this: mdadm -A /dev/md101 /dev/sdc11 and it worked without problem, assembled md101 that I could mount. But in openSUSE 13.2 (mdadm - v3.3.1) it gives error: mdadm -A /dev/md101 /dev/sdc11 mdadm: Found some drive for an array that is already active: /dev/md/11 mdadm: giving up. I know it means that running md11 array has the same uuid as the "would be created" new md101 array and therefore mdadm prevents its assembly. But how can I then assemble /dev/sdc11 to an independent array? I tried to assemble the new array with updating the uuid: # mdadm -A -U uuid /dev/md101 /dev/sdc11 mdadm: Found some drive for an array that is already active: /dev/md/11 mdadm: giving up. or: mdadm -A -U uuid -u 4ff5944f:b14c863f:9fddd970:c1ea6abc /dev/md101 /dev/sdc11 mdadm: Found some drive for an array that is already active: /dev/md/11 mdadm: giving up. (I changed the last 3 digits of the original uuid.) mdadm man says: -U, --update= Update the superblock on each device while assembling the array. lhe argument given to this flag can be one of sparc2.2, summaries, uuid, name, homehost, resync, byteorder, devicesize, no-bitmap, bbl, no-, metadata, or super-minor. The uuid option will change the uuid of the array. If a UUID is given with the --uuid option that UUID will be used as a new UUID and will NOT be used to help identify the devices in the array. If no --uuid is given, a random UUID is chosen. Even if I could assemble /dev/sdc11 with a new uuid, how can I then add it back to md11 later? The new uuid will prevent it, I guess. I will have to change back the uuid to the original. It is tedious and error-prone. What would be the best solution? [opensuse] Problems with desktop sharing (krfb) in OpenSuse Leap 42.2

Hi!! I am having problems with desktop sharing (krfb) in OpenSuse Leap 42.2. On the remote desktop I run krfb with the following options enabled: Enable Desktop Sharing: checked Enable Unattended Access: checked Announce service on the local network : checked Use default port (5900) : checked Security: Allow remote connections to control your desktop: checked (with password) On the other desktop, I run krdc or vncviewer to access the remote computer. I can view the screen, move the pointer, click and open applications. The remote user can see the movement of the mouse and I can open applications, typing ... etc but all in "blind mode". [opensuse] How to make local browser "default" instead of some remote browser?

Running a remote GUI just now, when I clicked on a topic, it started a browser on the remote machine that displays on my local machine via 'X'. Where is my browser choice stored? I'd like to configure it to run the browser on my local machine instead. Microsoft have just announced: Important notice: All Skype for Linux clients version 4.3 and older will be retired on July 1, 2017. To keep chatting, please install the latest version of Skype for Linux. My desktop seems stuck at a 32-bit openSUSE. I have skype-4.3.0.37-6.1.i586. I see that the Skype for Linux that will now be available is only available as a 64-bit version. Our company uses Skype for Business. [opensuse] Simultaneous output to SPDIF and analog

Hello, I have an ASRock B75 Pro3-M Motherboard. The motherboard has an optical SPDIF output connector. I have a fitting cable and an audio receiver (amplifier). So I have switched the profile in volume settings > audio volume > configuration to IEC958 and now it works. However, I would like to be able to use earphones connected to the computer as well. (I don't currently have the right earphone connector for the receiver). I have enabled "add virtual device for simultaneous output on all local sound cards", but it does not seem to do anything except adding another volume control for the same IEC958 output. The analog output is silent. In the old days (about 10 years ago) I used to fix these things using alsa configuration, but now it's all pulseaudio. [opensuse] Install a network dongle driver/module properly

Hello, After a discussion on this list, I have ordered a 5GHz WiFi USB dongle - only to fing it is actually based on MT7610, not RTL8811AU. I have, however, found a driver at https://github.com/ulli-kroll/mt7610u and the driver was built successfully. But I have a weird problem. According to the readme, to install the driver, I just need to do: sudo insmod mt7610u.ko The command was successful and a wlan1 interface has appeared in the iwconfig output (with only "Ralink STA" showing for it). But YaST does not list the device in "Network Settings". I am not sure how to do the installation properly. (This is probably not about firmware, as there was a sudo make installfw step too). I need to make this module load at startup (ideally, also when the device is inserted - but as this is a desktop machine, I am happy enough to keep the device in permanently). And I need to configure it in YaST. There is the Add button in the YaST device list. But it requires the name of the module - so I presume I need to put mt7610u.ko in the right place. I am also not sure at all whether this is the correct next step, anyway. [opensuse] zypper and disk space

I am planning on updating a Tumbleweed system. It has not been updated since gcc7. On the system in question, I always fight for disk space when doing large updates. I always have it download all files, then do the install. Which means that I need the space for the RPMS, the new uncompressed installs, and whatever files are still in use before apps restart. Is there an option I do not see that can tell zypper to delete an RPM after it is installed? That way I can at least get back disk space as things are getting installed, but still have a bit of safety that the install will not start until I have all the bits local. [opensuse] Playing MP3 without Packman workaround

I have installed opensuse 42.2 but no additional repositories apart from skype. By installing ffmpeg I am able to convert an mp3 into flac, or ogg, and then play it using moc or vlc. So why can't I play these files directly? or rather why aren't the codecs free and included in the main repository? I guess it is not a licensing issue because the license restrictions on mp3 have expired for some time in Europe, and now in the USA too. (Or if it is a licensing issue, how is ffmpeg in the main repo?) [opensuse] flash plugin compromised

Hello, For some reason I forget, I once installed the flash plugin from: http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/linux/x86_64/ that seems an official Adobe repository I don't neither remember when (is there a way to know the repository installation date in yast?) [opensuse] disable touchpad in gnome

Hello, I am just starting to use gnome again, as I am getting frustrated with KDE's incessant lockups. So, one of the first things I notice is that touchpad is extremely sensitive, and when I type and just barely brush against the touchpad on my laptop, my cursor is suddenly somewhere else on the screen, messing up my typing. I am wondering, how do you disable the touchpad in gnome?
