[opensuse] Alien users?

Hi List, no, not if one of you is an alien. Rather looking for users of the alien package :D I'm using it (well, want to) for converting some binary SDK libs from DEB to RPM. Have done so before successfully, but now I'm hit by the debian policy of having the 64bit libs in */lib/, so a plain convert doesn't work (ldd won't find the propper libs). Has anyone solved that problem already? (I know I can stop the conversion in the middle, shuffle files around, edit the spec file and run rpmbuild, but doing that for several files and for each update of the SDK calls for some automatism...) [opensuse] plasma 5 settings in Leap 42.2

Hello: Without saying anything about Leap 42.2's default plasma desktop, just a list of questions. I have Leap 42.2 with deafult KDE desktop (plasma 5?): -desktop panel: how to see hight in pixels? -start menu classic mode: how to set old opensuse classification; menu/submenu, eg. Multimedia/Video players, Audio editors, Volume control etc, as it used to be? -how to set start menu: most frequently used application? (not favorites and recently used) -how to disable KDE wallett service window popping up (eg. every time after vivaldi startup) -where is screen saver settings? (not screen locker) -plasma system settings - search field: where is clear search field button? -measurement units: set to metric (not country) -time format: set to YYYY-MM-DD, not country, because I don't know which country uses this -keyboard switching by keyboard shortcut: disable keyboard layout changing popup/widget in the middle of the screen -kde5/plasma5 system settings: help/about doesn't show version number, why, how do I get it? -how to disable the menu button at the right edge of the bottom panel? -panel add widgets looks very ugly - very wide column at the left edge of the screen with HUGE ugly icons and big fonts - is this normal? -how to set font color to real black 0/0/0 rgb, not gray) on the panel, in the start menu, in the panel clock -how to prevent plasma5 to mess up KDE3 session (it even messes up kde3 session of users who never used/logged in to plasma5) -how to fix missing panel icons, many application icon on the panel is not shown, only empty space at their supposed locations, this depends also on icon them, but breeze (deafult?) is affected too. Finally, is it feasible to install KDE4 instead of this default thing, something that was available in 13.1 and 13.2? If yes, how? I have the regular super user konsole. but the konsole that is supposed to be the regular konsole prompts for a password each time i open it. i have tried the profile thing, no avail. any ideas as to why this is? thanks. [opensuse] Where is default browser set?

Let me rephrase a previous Q -- When some program tries to show a URL, it invokes your "default browser". How does it know what your default browser is and where is that set? Is it a symlink somewhere in your home directory, or a text file with the browser name in it? Or what? Hi all, Maybe this is not the ideal list to get this doubt, but does anyone know there is any way to force the focus of firefox when minimized (auto maximize) when a deriminated site has an update or send a alert? Thought I'd share a minor success -- getting links clicked in apps on my linux-box to open on my local-windows desktop. Note, when I say 'local', its about my desktop being < 1 meter away and my linux server being about 8 meters away, in another room, so 'local' is relative. Thought I'd also share the steps to arrange this, simple as they are at least they can be documented. First, I added an app to the applications directory at /usr/share/applications/palemoon.desktop (attached) I based it off the entry for firefox with few modifications. In my home directory, my "~/bin" is in my PATH. There I added a "palemoon" script. It's a 1-line bash script that uses 'rsh' to login from linux to my desktop (WinBox): -------- #!/bin/bash rsh -n -l 'MyDomain\lwalsh' WinBox runapp palemoon "$@" -------- Since my linux & windows box's have a direct connect cable that isn't exposed to the internet, I use 'rsh' to start the "runapp" script on the windows machine. Equivalently, (unrelated to making this work, but an alternate way to run something remotely w/ssh) I have another script that runs from linux and checks something on Windows. I use linux to poll windows, as it's more reliable and it sends me email when it fails. The best you get w/windows is a message in a binary log when it fails -- not very good for alerting me of an abnormal condition. It is the equivalent format as the rsh runner: -------- #!/bin/bash ssh -n -T 'MyDomain\lwalsh'@WinBox bin/script "$@" -------- Of note: in both cases, the scripts wait for the remote to finish -- unnoticeable for the ssh-run script except that it records execution errors into the cron-output that is emailed to me on failure. In the rsh case, since it is running a browser -- if it is the 1st instance, it really waits until that instance has exited, while instances sent w/the browser already running return immediately. I can change the 1st wait in various places if I want (probably will in 'runapp'). Runapp is my "dispatcher" -- I could have called palemoon directly, but this way, 'runapp' can contain the path or read the windows registry for the path. Runapp allows me to put future improvements/changes in 1 place that is app-independent, I could even have runapp launch a windows handler based on the arg-type (email for a mailto: link, browser for URL, music player for a music file...etc). Right now, runapp just looks up the app and I have it's path encoded in the script. It's also attached. Thats pretty much it. 3 files (one of which is the 1-line forwarder listed above). For simple use, probably don't need much more than this, but could extend it to wherever I want it to go. Any questions, please ask... Thanks for the help in finding the change-point(s). BTW -- Any linux app that is already running needs to be restarted to read new info in the "applications" directory. That had me worried for a bit until I restarted...
