[opensuse] Leap 43.3 beta question

I would like to install the current Leap 43.3 beta on a disk that I am currently running openSUSE 12.3 on. I have a free partition into which I would like to install 43.3. Might I expect any issue with the boot setup? The machine has an older traditional BIOS in respect to booting. I need to be sure I can still run 12.3 after the install. I will need to continue using that until 43.3 is fully in place. Is the 43.3 beta far enough along where I can 'zypper dup' to stay current? This seems to be the way of things. The 43.3 info says it is using a rolling release methodology. [opensuse] Closing the lid of the laptop does not activate the power functions

Hi all, I'm using openSuse 42.2 with the latest kernel (4.4.62-18.6.1) and the latest Plasma5 updates in an HP Pavilion dv7 laptop with an Optimus Nvidia graphics card, but i'm using the i915 video driver. After the latest updates, closing the lid of the laptop does not activate the power functions (suspend, hibernate, etc) and they are well configured in the Power Configuration. These functions are operational from the KDE menu. Any ideas? Since I got a dashboard camera for use in my car I have got very long videos which I would like to split into smaller parts. What can opensuse offer me for such a job? [opensuse] batch yast clone_system

Is there any better way of running an automated (daily) yast clone_system than screen -D -m timeout 4h yast clone_system timeout 4h is to avoid endless jobs when one or more repositories are not avaliable (as i.e. now), and it would be perfect I could say "abort when there is a problem". [opensuse] KVM with btrfs on a LVM partition

Hi! I have Leap 42.2 as KVM host with clients also running Leap 42.2 On the host I use LVM and prepare logical partition (create the, format them and populate them with data). Then I assign these logical partitions the clients as block devices (on the host the partition is not mounted any more after assignment). Using ext4, this setup works well. Using btrfs on the LVM partition works only for a few days. Anyone else having this problems? I know that btrfs requires trimming, scrubbing and balancing which is done on Leap 42.2 as a cronjob. [opensuse] libreoffice not showing embedded graphics anymore

I must have inadvertently changed some setting - in libreoffice::write, embedded graphics are no longer being shown. Just empty boxes with the name of item. The same goes for older documents, so I'm guessing it's not a document setting. Any hints on how to get the regular behaviour back, ie how to make LO show the embedded graphics? [opensuse] Wipe GPT partition table?

What is the best way to wipe a GPT partition table completely from an USB key? (Background: My USB key contains a GPT partition table, probably from an OS installation (FreeNAS, openSUSE installation media ...). Parted, fdisk, gdisk have functions to create a new MSDOS partition table, but they do not wipe the GPT completely. As the result, Grub2 functions (grub2-install, YaST Bootloader) fail. Currently I do "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/disk/by-id/<my-usb-key-device> bs=64M", but this takes long.) [opensuse] can no longer select 4x6in photo for printing

Visiting parents. Their Leap 42.2 machine running KDE has an annoying new issue. I don't know for sure if this came about after the upgrade from 42.1 to 42.2 (done around the new year) or following a more recent update. The printer is an old HP PSC 2410 (PSC 2400 series) multifunction device. It should, and has always for the last dozen years, printed any size or quality up to A4, including 4x6in or 5x7in photos (with or without tab/border). Now, when going to print from any application, trying to select these options from the drop-down list fails. They are there in the list but clicking them is ignored and it reverts to A4. Some similar options such as 148x105mm can be selected. I tried changing the ppd in YaST, in the Cups web interface or in hp-setup from hpcups to hpijs. Although this changes some of the items in the paper size list, equivalent options such as 'Photo or 4x6in index card' still cannot be selected. Vaguely recalling mentions on this ML from others trying out the hplip packages direct from the project's website, I followed the instructions there to download and install the latest version 3.17.4 for openSUSE 42.2, agreeing during the process to remove previous versions and reinstall. After all that, still the same problem persists. Here's the ppd file that's in /etc/cups/ppd: http://paste.opensuse.org/17473252 what is responsible for enforcing the paper sizes, this ppd file or something else?
