[opensuse] boot32.efi for 64 bits processor and Leap

Hello, We see more and more often very small but powerfull computers, atom multicore 64 bits, but with UEFI 32 bits firmware. I have one now ("It Works TW891" paid 129€ - 32Gb ssd + 2Gb ram, runs almost perfectly windows 10 32bits or Debian 64bits). these computers can be installed with 64 bits distros, but they need absolutely a 32 bits loader. Right now I on ly know of the hybrid debian 32/64bits dvd to be able to install. Notice that *only the loader* have to be 32bits, the generic name being boot32.efi copying a generic loader to the Leap EFI folder allows booting, and probably installing (I couldn't make all the tests), but the generic one gives only a grub prompt, not handy. Bad blocks on a ReiserFS volume. How to retrieve files?

I have a large hard-disk (120 GB) on which some blocks went bad. Now, it cannot be mounted. Attached is what debugreiserfs says. What can I do; I'm newbie to reiserfs architecture. I thought that ReiserFS keeps copies of the superblock or something, like ext2/3 does. reiserfsck says "error occured looks like hardware problem. bread cannot read block 13271040". That's the actual number it displays. PS I have asked the same question on the reiserfs-list, but it's extremely low traffic. Maybe someone here knows more. [opensuse] Project management software question for project managers

I am looking for project management software I can install on my Suse box. Alas, there are quite a number of prducts that claim to be suitable project management products, but I am hoping to obtain a little help separating the wheat from the chaffe. Basically, when I open the project management software, I want to be able to choose from among a number of projects that are under way, and then see the relation between a client's wish list and the functional requirements specs, and then how these specs relate to the UML diagrams that have been created, and from there, what tasks have been defined for each requirement and the identity of all persons involved, the developers and their managers, and the person who designed the code that supports the requirement. And with that, I want to be able to see the project's timeline, the related bugs, &c. I would even want to be able to open the source code files and examine the code that was actually written. Here is my wish list: 1) a web application that stores data in either PostgreSQL or MySQL. 2) easy integration with UML tool (or has it's own UML tool that supports round trip engineering) 3) resource management (e.g. computers, and development tools, that can be used, personelle assigned to each task) 4) documentation of relation between functional requirements specs to specific tasks and specific unit and integration tests. 5) time/effort tracking 6) bug tracking, including data relating the existance of the bug, and effort required to fix it, to the person who wrote the original code, the person who supervised him or her, and the person who designed the 'feature' in question, the time taken to complete the original task, and the technologies used (to imprrove accountability as well as to determine retraining and continuing education needs (people aren't disposable, so instead of taking a harsh aproach to problems identified, I prefer to use education as a corrective, but I can't design corrective instruction without knowing precisely what the need is). I also need to know if a developer has a higher than normal bug rate simply because he doesn't take enough time to ensure the job is done right, or because I haven't adequately trained him, or because of a poor choice of tools, or somethng else that may be my fault. 7) use of task effort tracking history to generate provisional effort/cost estimates from new project's functional requirements 8) easy integration with open source ERP products like OFBiz (which may make trakcing resources and manpower easier, as well as connect real production data to the enterprise's accounting systems) 9) easy integration with CMS products, like Wordpress (especally for production documentation, includng degin documentation and user guides and reference manuals) 10) easy integration with verion control systems such as subversion. If there is a decent product that supports all of this, great (and language used to implement it doesn't matter), but if I have to write code to add missing requirements, then I am limited to those implemented using Perl or Java (and running on Tomcat). I don't know PHP well enough, and I don't know Ruby at all; and I really don't want to think about implementing this sort of thing in C++ (though I could if absolutely necessary). If you have project management experience, and use tools that are available for Suse Linux, what software product(s) did you use, and with what result? While I await relies, I will continue to review web documentation for those products I have found so far, to see if any of them are a) suitable for use in production and b) to see to what extent they support the features I am after. I have seen a number of products so far in my search, that deserve to be nameless, because they provide no way to relate cost estimates to one's team's track record, or to the details of the design, and seem satisfied with production of a pretty gantt chart (which is why I have formed the view that there is a whole lots of chaffe in the set of applications that call themselves project menement software - I have yet to find anything that really has the potential of being labelled wheat). Sorry SuSE: 9.1 is Waste of time and money!

I am sorry to conclude that my upgrade from SuSE 9.0 Pro to 9.1 Pro has been waste of time and money for me, so far. The same I have to say about the free SuSE "Installation support". The reason is that my SuSE 9.1 installation only detects 1 of my 3 SCSCI devices (as I wrote in another subject on this forum: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2004-May/3254.html) Yamaha 4416S CDRW recorder detected HP DVD Writer 100i NOT detected Epson 1640SU scanner NOT detected It's rather stupid. I have installed 9.1 using the DVD disk just in the HP DVD drive, but after the installation of 9.1, the KDE/Konqueror /media/recorder cannot access it and YaST2 cannot install additional software from it. Only one "Cdrecorder" is found in My computer and that is the Yamaha 4416 drive, which the KDE/Konqueror file manager assign as /media/recorder11. I am sure 9.1 is the reason, as I hadn't this problems with 9.0. I have tried both an update and two several new installation of 9.1. Neither SJDS nor Windows on the same multiboot PC have problems to detect these devices. In my opinion SuSE should therefore debug 9.1 better and longer, and not leave the problems to the customers. I see SuSE notes on their web saying that they know SCSI scanners are not detected in 9.1. But regarding my HP DVD writer problem, the SuSE support (as usual) don't take the responsibility and argue that this problem (a combination of IDE disk and SCSI devices) isn't included in their free installation support! This sounds remarkable, and I have never had a modern PC of so simple model or configuration that it has fitted the limited rules for the free installation support. Terje J. Hanssen

[SLE] RealPlayer G2 on SuSe 6.2

Yesterday, I finally got sound going on my Linux setup. I downloaded RealPlayer G2 and it worked beautifully. Today, RealPlayer run but no sound coming out. All other sound functions still work. I can still play my CD, have system sound BUT no sound when I run RealPlayer. /var/log/message said kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error? but KDE sound still work. I have re-installed RealPlayer 3 times now, still no sound when I run the RealPlayer. Any help is appreciated. [opensuse] IPv6 Rogue Router Security Issue

Hi Folks, There seems to be a flurry of IPv6 talk going on, maybe this is time for me to bring up the rogue router problem again? I asked about this a couple of times over the years but could never find anyone to comment on it. First, here's the RFC that describes the problem: https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6104 Rogue routers have affected me personally at a customer's site. This is a large, professionally managed, dual-stacked network with a number of v4 class B addresses and thousands of hosts. Subnets seem to be /20 CIDR in size, so there are plenty of "neighbors" on any given subnet. I've encountered the situation where misconfigured Windows systems will advertise themselves as an IPv6 router. They then happily accept traffic and drop it all silently on the floor. This problem doesn't seem to bother other Windows boxes too much, but it absolutely kills SSH connections. SSH preferentially tries IPv6 port 22, which when sent to a dumb Windows box results in very long hangups and connection failures. My workaround for my cohort of Linux desktops and servers was to disable IPv6 for both ssh and sshd. This will work for as long as the host network supports dual stacks, but eventually? Then there's the issue of intentional MITM attacks using this vector. If a bad actor has physical access to a subnet, or has compromised a host on that subnet, your goose is cooked. This link mentions some mitigations, but they're quite technical and may require hardware support. https://community.infoblox.com/t5/IPv6-Center-of-Excellence/Holding-IPv6-Ne… So, what is the threat to a home IPv6 user who has WiFi and an Internet of Things with minimal/non-existent security? I personally feel safer behind a nice natted IPv4 firewall with ACL rules between my copper and WiFi subnets. I just feel that I have more control of the situation with a simpler network. Ie, mark the start of the movie, the end, the commercials inside, and dump all that into a single file, perhaps recoding. I don't need any transition or effect, just a simple editor that allows me to remove unwanted sections. I have tried: pitivi - crashes on start LiVES - works for an hour at 100% CPU and can't load the file. dvbcut - says my mpeg file is not a video (and it certainly is!) tragtor - can convert, but not edit. openshot - almost. My video has two sound tracks, and this tool ignores the second track. cinelerra-cv - I can't make head or tails of it. I tell it to load a video file, it does, but then I don't see how to do anything. It doesn't even display the video. I may have to read the manual, but I dislike having to read a manual for a GUI. Still... kdenlive - Well... crashes too often. I can mark the cuts, but it does not display what I'm cutting. And only one sound track. HandBrake - no edit. Avidemux - one sound track only. Kino - abandonware. Lightworks ?? Not sure if this is a KDE or Solid (or other) issue . . . sorry for message length but trying to include all relevant data I know of . . . Digikam has worked great importing/deleting photos from iPhone 6S for a year, working on 13.2. I recently upgraded 13.2 => 42.1 => 42.2 about a month ago. I can't honestly say whether this problem arose with the Leap upgrade, or with an update since. When Digikam opens it displays the following error message: The specified camera ("/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/ pci0000:00/0000:00:12.2/usb1/1-1/1-1:4.2/net/eth2") is not supported. ~>lsusb shows the camera as: Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05ac:12a8 Apple, Inc. Switching to a different port , , , ~>lsusb Bus 004 Device 003: ID 05ac:12a8 Apple, Inc. Digikam then throws this error when started: The specified camera ("/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/ pci0000:00/0000:00:13.2/usb4/4-2/4-2:4.2/net/eth1") is not supported. Yet still Digikam (and other photo apps) autodetects the phone. It is shown under the Import menu, and when Import for the phone is selected the second Digikam windows opens. At bottom it shows the correct camera media capacity and amount used, while under the Device menu it shows the phone is recognized on the correct usb port. It shows that upload and delete are supported functions. But it cannot see the photo files. (It is seen as an "iPhone5 (PTP mode)"; gphoto2 --list-cameras does not show iPhone6 but that was not a problem before; the udev hwdb shows the same phone ID for both iPhone5 and iPhone6. Tested this with my wife's iPhone 5 and the errors were the same.) gphoto2: --list-ports sees the correct port --list-folders sees the "store_feedface" folder but no files. --abilities shows iPhone 5 with USB support, file preview and upload = yes When I try kio camera:/ in Dolphin I get: camera:/Apple%2520iPhone%25205%2520(PTP%2520mode)@usb:001,002/ An "Apple iPhone 5 (PTP Model)" folder appears with the sub-folder "store_feedface" but no DCIM folder nor any photos. When I try gtkam it can see the iPhone "store-feedface" but not DCIM, no files. Experimenting with this app I once got this error, too: An error occurred in the io-library ('Could not claim the USB device'): Could not claim interface 0 (Device or resource busy). Make sure no other program (gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor) or kernel module (such as sdc2xx, stv680, spca50x) is using the device and you have read/write access to the device. Similarly, when I tried Shotwell it threw: Unable to fetch previews from the camera: Could not claim the USB device (-53) But strangely, darktable uploads (and deletes) the iPhone files even though it uses libgphoto2.so.6 just as all the other apps do. Still works fine with my Canon A570. Digikam Version 5.4.0 Using: KDE Frameworks 5.26.0 Qt 5.6.1 (built against 5.6.1) My suspicion is that the problem is connect to the error "could not claim USB device", as I've seen that several times. Just a wild-ass guess. I checked Bugzilla KDE and Solid, found multiple instances of PTP cameras being recognized but files not retrievable over the last ~5 years. But nothing recent. I did find a 2011 bug report on Ubuntu Launchpad which was reported again in Dec claiming a regression in Digikam, but it wasn't verified. (And that was Digikam4, not 5). Any suggestions where to look further? Again, apologies for length. TIA, Dennis P.S. KDE folks might want to note that the Device Notifier entry always displays the camera twice rather than just once when it's attached, and when the "Open with File Manager" option is chosen, the app errors on not finding the KDE4 version of Dolphin: KDEInit could not launch 'dolphin4': Could not open library 'libkdeinit5_dolphin4'. [opensuse] HP printer Leap 42.2

My HP D2300 usb printer has worked for many years. It is attached to one of my two pcs and shared between the two. This worked fine up to 13.2 but I cannot get 42.2 to share the printer. Sharing fails in Yast whereas it worked up to 13.2, when I try to sahre it using the CUPS interface I am not offered adminstrator settings (I always used my root password for this hitherto) so cannot change the settings to share the printer. All of this works on Linux Mint 18.1 fwiw. Is there a known fix for this ? All, I just thought this was worth sharing. I've got the 128GB RAM PC I built up last spring (much discussion on this list). I don't have a swap space setup because who could ever use that much RAM. The OOM background tool just kicked in and killed one of my tasks! Top agrees and says I only have 10GB of RAM free (after killing my task). Setting up swap space now! [opensuse] How to grep a save command in order to save the complete output of hwinfo to a txt file?

I have to put the complete hwinfo from the cli to a txt outputfile. I recall I can do this somehow with grep, but all the web resources speak about long scripts. Notwithstanding, I recall, a very simple command can do this. If somebody is knowledgeable I would appreciate. [opensuse] setting up mysql error

Ok, so I used the following procedure https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:LAMP_setup to set up an apache2 web server, then php7, and then the mysql server with mariadb. Following that procedure in the SDB, it ran great, I was able to set up a small database, connect to it and edit it with phpmyadmin, and was pretty happy with it. Of course, there is one problem with that setup, and that is that it installs all the database files in the root partition. The SDB doesn't give any guidelines for how to move the database to my home partition, which is where I want it to be. So, I tried to move things on my own, and I am sure I messed something up. The directory where the database was installed at first was here: /var/lib/mysql And the directory that had the apache2 web server and phpmyadmin was here: /srv/www/htdocs Also, there was a file, /etc/my.cnf, in which you could change the location of the database. So here is what I did - I shutdown thy mysql service with systemctl stop mysql Then I went into /etc/my.cnf and put in this line where it says to in the file: # Remove leading # if you want to store your database elsewhere datadir = /home/george/FaithWiringDB/dbproj/mysql Then I copied the mysql files from /var/lib/mysql over to /home/george/FaithWiringDB/dbproj/mysql at first I changed the permissions to george:users, but that didn't work so I changed them back to root:root Now, when I tried to do systemctl start mysql.service, it won't start. # systemctl start mysql.service Job for mysql.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See "systemctl status mysql.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details. [opensuse] Settings to have wifi up and running after boot

Hi all, This is a long standing problem for me. Now I have an ASUS K501 UX laptop with Leap 42.2 and KDE. Tha laptop possibly does not matter, since this was the situation with 42.1 on this laptop and 42.1 on a Lenovo and on another kind of ASUS with 42.2. The symptoms: When I boot, wired connection gets initialized, and usable when I plug in the cord. I would expect that if and when the network cable is not plugged, the wifi starts working automatically. This is not the case and rfkill says wireless is hard blocked. I can only get wifi running if I put the system to sleep (with fn+Zz or mains switch), and then wake it up (with Esc or mains switch). Sometimes this should be done twice. There is another twist: boot+put to sleep + waking always works on one condition: the mains (or battery charger) is plugged. In this case closing the lid suspends the system and opening the lid wakes it up. When the charger is not plugged the above sequence sometimes works and sometimes (mostly) not. Closing the lid suspends the laptop, opening the lid either wakes it up or causes reboot. I do not know and understand how and why these phenomena are connected. What the charger plugged in state has to do with wifi start or reboot. It is mysterious why the things sometimes at least partly work and sometimes why not. And the basic question is: why the configured wifi does not start after or during bootup. Any kind of hints or tips are welcome. Regards, Albert

I am trying to free up a partition on my work desktop. One of the partitions on the extra disk is part of an old RAID-1 configuration, and I am trying to delete the raid drive from the system and re-format that partition. However, whenever I try to use fdisk, it re-activates the RAID even though I have already removed it. How do I completely get rid of my system seeing the raid in this partition and reactivating itself? I removed all the information from the /etc/mdadm.conf file for that drive, so it is not getting information from there. All, I use this same laptop with both Leap and Arch, wpa/wireless. With Arch/netctl the IP is established in 13 seconds. With Leap/wicked it consistently takes 39 seconds.
