I see in the change log in yast that twm was split from the original. It says: "Split twm from xorg-x11. Initial version: 1.0.5." It was last updated in 2015. Is it still being maintained? Is there an official website? It looks like it is a SUSE version. [opensuse] konsole always run as root

Since some time I can no longer run konsole as a non root user! If a start konsole it asks always for the root password. user hans (non root): dolphin ==> cd /usr/bin and start konsole , konsole asks for rootpassword. copy konsole to /home/hans/bin and start it from there konsole doesnot ask for the rootpasssword. Question: 1. Is it correct that /usr/bin/konsole always asks for the rootpassword ? 2. How is this done that konsole in /usr/bin asks for pwd and a copy in a different dir not ? (If my model does, maybe only the new drives). How does it say to place it in said mode? I have tried power cycling the drive, holding the button in for 2, 10, 20, 30 seconds. [opensuse] Most stable openSUSE version for 64bit computer

I have a DELL XPS 64bit computer and I've tried Tumbleweed and Leap 4.2. Between the two which is the most stable. Is the another openSUSE version more stable for 64bit computers? The reason I ask is because I've had problem with both Tumbleweed and Leap. Until now I've had great luck using openSUSE software on my old 32bit computer. [opensuse] Tor browser install fails on Leap 42.1

I'm trying to install the Tor browser on Leap 42.1 I went to https://software.opensuse.org/package/torbrowser-launcher and that suggests https://software.opensuse.org/ymp/devel:languages:python/openSUSE_Leap_42.1… as the best place to get the software. I installed that and when I click on the menu entry for Tor Browser, I get a small dialog titled Tor Browser that says it is installing the browser and then says (GRR! why is it yet another dialog that won't let you copy text!) SIGNATURE VERIFICATION FAILED! It says the same thing if I download again, so I suspect the problem is not a dodgy download. There are no hints as to where to look for more diagnostics. [opensuse] no flash in chromium in leap 42.2

Just did a clean install of 42.2. Had been using 13.2 since it first came out, best distro I have ever used. Hated to see it go. Anyway, the install went great and so far have only one glitch. I have been unable to get flash working in chromium. There is no pepper flash in the standard repository which chromium normally uses but I did notice adobe flash had been installed. I located an unstable version of pepper flash on the opensuse website version 22.0.0.209-6.1 provided by Kenzy. I installed that version but still no flash in chromium. [opensuse] rights for new user, a small problem of understanding...

Hi, I'll give access to my computers to another person with her own new user. I see, that this user can see many or most of my files (read only), but I want that she can only see her own files. How can I achieve that? Do I have to change all the rights of my files? How do I do that safely (without causing problems to programs etc.)? How do I achieve that new files automatically are readable only by me (and root)? Thanks for your help! [opensuse] clonezilla and windows dual boot

On my new work desktop, I have dual boot with Windows 7 and openSUSE 42.2. It works great. The hard drive is 1TB, partitioned as an MBR, not GPT drive, in accordance with the school policies where I volunteer. The partitions I have set up are about 156GB total for Windows partitions, 16GB of swap, followed by the extended partition, which then has 2 30GB separate root partitions (1 is for a future upgrade), and the rest is my data/home partition. I have a separate, new, unpartitioned 1TB drive that I have just connected inside the desktop, and I am looking to set it up to backup my first drive, in case the first drive fails. My idea is to use clonezilla to clone the entire drive the first time, which will set up all the partitions and everything, as well as back up the data. After that I will do regular synchronizing of the data and root partitions. My main concern is the windows partition. I don't normally use windows, but every once in a while, like once every couple of weeks, I will probably have to boot into windows for something. If I use clonezilla, doesn't it also clone the UUID of the drive and partitions? If so, how will that effect my ability to boot from windows? I have heard that windows does some funny things with verifying the UUID of drives when it boots. I want to keep this drive plugged in regularly so that when I feel like it I can just back things up. For the linux side, how will using clonezilla effect things? In my fstab file, I mount based on drive label, not UUID, so I figured that after using clonezilla, I would go in on a restore configuration and change the blkid of the new drives, so that the system doesn't get confused when trying to boot up. But what about grub2? Do I need to do something about the UUIDs of the partitions on the new drive before booting again, so that it doesn't present a problem? [opensuse] Authentication is required to mount /dev/loop0

Several times over the last month a window has opened on my desktop with the above message. Below the heading it says "An application is attempting to perform an action that requires privileges. Authentication is required to perform this action." It asks for the root password. Under "Details" it shows: Application: Action: Mount a filesystem on a system device Vendor: The udisks Project polkit.subject-pid: 29959 polkit.caller-pid: 2350 After trying to cancel out of it and having that lock up the desktop, I am providing the root password but of course that makes me nervous. I have no idea what this is about, never seen it before. AFAICT I haven't done or seen anything running that would cause this. I upgraded to 42.2 about 1-2 months ago. Google was of no help. Something simple -- Just make your home directory (/home/whatver) have 700 permissions: chmod 700 /home/whatever Since "users" and "world" won't have read or execute on that folder (with folder permissions, the "execute" is basically "browse"), they won't be able to do anything.
