[opensuse] KDE factory

Hi, i'm not sure wether this is the right place to post. Seems the KDE factory repository for 11.1 (that is http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE%3aDistro%3aFactory/openSUSE_1…) is broken for two days or so. Namely libstrigi-0.7.3-41.2-x86_64 does not provide libstreamanalyzer.so.0()(64bit), which affects dozens of other packages (no update possible). Another broken thing is phonon-4.4.3-52.1-x86_64: "nothing provides phonon-backend >=4.4.3 needed by phonon-4-4-3-52.1.x86_64". Appropriate backend packages are missing. Did i miss something? [opensuse] BASH - shorter way to isolate PID and process name from 'ps ax'?

Bash gurus, I need a sanity check on my approach to just getting the PID and process name from 'ps ax'. I have a way that works well, but I think I've done it the long way. What is the simplest way to do this? I've thought about cut and the other small string chopping routines, but I've ended up just using substring extraction and substring removal to chop the pieces out of the lines I want. Here is what I've got. There are 2 snippets below. The main intent was to handle the 1-5 digit integer PID which is what drove this approach. (though in later thought, I guess it doesn't matter. If I'm just going to call kill with the PID, I could just pass the 5 character string to it and not worry about trimming the whitespace...) All of this seems like the long way to get the PID and process from 'ps ax' output, but it is what I know. So what say the experts? Is there an easier/shorter way to skin this cat? -- David C. [opensuse] kmail stopper working after transferring mail

When I start kmail after the latest update I get following information:KMail encountered a fatal error and will terminate now. The error was: You do not have read/write permission to your inbox folder. This happened after I got a little screen which informed me that there was some mail/ gmail data transfer. Do not know how I could get back a functioning KMail. Looked at the kmail inbox but there i do have rw permission. Perhaps the reason could be found in the fact that I have kmail symlinked to an separate MAIL file name in my /home/.This would let me use the kmail with other suse versions. [opensuse] Dolphin doesn't exit?

Dolphin Version 1.5.9 Using KDE Development Platform 4.5.80 (4.6 Beta1) <<<<--------BETA I've noticed that Dolphin, once started and exited will not start again. As root, dolphin process exits within a second after closing the window (by any normal means), but as a regular user the process hangs around forever after the window is closed. Any attempt to restart dolphin again after closing the GUI will start another process, but will never show the window. If you leave the first dolphin process running, you can start as many additional ones as you wish, but close the last window and you get no additional dolphin launches till you kill off that lingering process. If started from a console you see this: jsa@poulsbo:~> /usr/bin/dolphin kde(9455): Communication problem with "dolphin" , it probably crashed. Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken." [opensuse] Oh my Gawd, Kmail Migration goes Berserk

On upgrading to KDE 4.6 beta 1 the Kmail migration tool decided to migrate 5 Gmail accounts with huge amounts of archived mail. Swamped my internet connection for 20 minutes. The issue was me :-( After checking the log I found out that the module wasn't successfully built. So I download again git clone http://git.plugable.com/webdav/udlfb/ and git clone http://git.plugable.com/webdav/xf-video-udlfb/ reinstall xorg-x11-sdk, and rebuild the module. Also I add in section "Files" in my xorg.conf ModulePath "/usr/local/lib/xorg/modules/drivers" ModulePath "/usr/local/lib" Maybe I should blog about this one. Hello list, I got a DisplayLink usb to vga adapter. lsusb result is: Bus 001 Device 004: ID 17e9:0198 Newnham Research and dmesg result: [ 1.924516] usb 1-6: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4 [ 2.059921] usb 1-6: New USB device found, idVendor=17e9, idProduct=0198 [ 2.059926] usb 1-6: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 [ 2.059930] usb 1-6: Product: WS Tech USB-DVI [ 2.059933] usb 1-6: Manufacturer: DisplayLink [ 2.059936] usb 1-6: SerialNumber: 510026 I already install the module which is libdlo-0.1.2 and can run the test with the good result with vga projector but no success when I try to use it for presentation. My pc use intel vga gpu and openSUSE Edu li-fe 11.3 with the latest update. Googling show me (mainly for Ubuntu - for example [1],[2]) that by modifying xorg.conf it is reported that this peripheral works. I try to modify my xorg.conf but no success (only green color projected). Anyone success with this device with openSUSE? Can someone help? [opensuse] Samba4 AD on openSUSE 11.3

I'm trying to setup a fully-functional AD server on openSUSE 11.3 (Samba4). It works pretty well so far. I had to build an RPM of Bind 9.7.2 with GSSAPI support. <https://build.opensuse.org/project/show?project=home%3Awhitemice% 3Asamba4> The current issue is I also need NTP 4.2.5 compiled with --enable-ntp-signd. Curious if anyone is are of good NTP packages in some repo. [opensuse] xterm tab completion behavior

Dear List, I have recently installed opensuse 11.3 with kde on a new-built system. Somehow my terminal settings got messed up. When I type a command in xterm there appears a little white box at the bottom with the characters as they are typed.rather than after the command prompt. I'd rather see the characters in the actual xterm window than in the box. When I try to use tab completion it does not follow expected behavior, i.e., it does not complete what it should but rather gives me a list of possible completions none of which contain what I want. For example, I occasionally use acroread. Rather than type the whole command I used to be able to type "acr" and use tab completion to finish the command. If I typed "ac" nothing would happen because there would be some other command starting with the same letters. Now in the console, when I type "acr" and try to use tab completion I get the following choices from the console, none of which contains "acroread" : 1. AC 2. ace 3. acer 4. ACL 5. ACM 6. acre 7. ACS 8. act 9. air 0. Apr AR arc. If I do the same from whithin an xterm window I get the completion "acre" Needless to say, this behavior drives me nuts. How can I get the old behavior back?
