[opensuse] openSUSE 11.3 2.6.34.7-0.2-xen no boot possible

Hi, I have done a fresh openSUSE 11.3 (32bit) install on a Lenovo ThinkCentre M58p 6234-1AG (C2D E8400, Q45 Express, GMA 4500, 82567LM-3). First problem was, that the network card was not recognized, I had to build in a second one. Fortunately after updating the system and a reboot, also the 82567LM-3 was working. With the normal Kernel 2.6.34.7-0.2-desktop the system works, but if I try to but with the Xen-Kernel 2.6.34.7-0.2-xen, the boot begins, but suddenly stops in a very early state. The last messages I see are: Doing fast boot Creating ... Then the screen goes blank and finaly in sleep mode. To reboot I have to power off and then power on again the system :-( In the Grub-menu.lst originally I had: ###Don't change this comment - YaST2 identifier: Original name: xen### title Xen -- openSUSE 11.3 - 2.6.34.7-0.2 root (hd0,0) kernel /xen.gz vgamode=0x317 vgamode=0x317 module /vmlinuz-2.6.34.7-0.2-xen root=/dev/...part6 resume=/dev /...part2 splash=silent quiet showopts vga=0x317 module /initrd-2.6.34.7-0.2-xen I already tried to remove the second "vgamode"-entry, finaly all "vgamode" and "vga"-options and set "splash=0" but this did not helped, "nomodeset" is not doing anything too (I think it's only for Nvidia). [opensuse] Patch management for OpenSUSE

Hello, I am wondering since some time how others cope with patch management on OpenSUSE Clients, when you have a bunch of PCs in a network. Somebody who can recommend a open source tool to cover the basics (e.g. a tool automating updates with zypper over ssh or something similar)? Thanks! [opensuse] Serial to USB adaptor

I am looking on ebay at a serial-to-usb adapter to use with a trackball that has a serial connector on its cable. This thing comes with a CD for Windows. Does anyone know if this is something I can use on a Linux machine? I'm, using the "RSYSLOG_SyslogProtocol23Format" template for one of the log files, which prints like this: <30>1 2010-11-22T16:29:04.707021+01:00 Telcontar smartd 3860 - - Device: /dev/sdc [SAT], SMART Usage Attribute: 194 Temperature_Celsius changed from 29 to 28 For this I use this rule: *.* -/var/log/allmessages;My_SyslogProtocol23Format The problem starts with the templates: the definitions are not documented, I had to dig them out of the sources: static uchar template_SyslogProtocol23Format[] = "\"<%PRI%>1 %TIMESTAMP:::date-rfc3339% %HOSTNAME% %APP-NAME% %PROCID% %MSGID% %STRUCTURED-DATA% %msg%\n\""; I would like the timestamp to be like "2010-11-22 16:29:04". To this end I define my own template derived from that one: $template My_SyslogProtocol23Format,"<%PRI%> %TIMESTAMP:::date-rfc3339% %HOSTNAME% %APP-NAME% %PROCID% %MSGID% %STRUCTURED-DATA% %msg%\n" which works - ie, it is the same as the original one. So far, so good. But I can't find documentation for the "TIMESTAMP" formats supported. In the file "features.html" I see: +++······················ Current Features ... • good timestamp format control; at a minimum, ISO 8601/RFC 3339 second-resolution UTC zone ······················++- date-rfc3339 produces output like 2010-11-22T17:09:20.201284+01:00, which is different from what the CLI equivalent does: cer@Telcontar:~> date --iso=ns ; date --rfc-3339=ns 2010-11-22T17:13:58,866637161+0100 2010-11-22 17:13:58.868123100+01:00 (the one I want is --rfc-3339=seconds, wich in "date" does not print the "T") I think that rsyslog got the specification reversed. Anyway, if I try the "other one" in the template: $template My_SyslogProtocol23Format,"<%PRI%> %TIMESTAMP:::date-rfc8601% %HOSTNAME% %APP-NAME% %PROCID% %MSGID% %STRUCTURED-DATA% %msg%\n" I get this output: <46> Nov 22 17:16:48 Telcontar rsyslogd - - - ... which means it was not recognised at all. I have also tried "date-rfc8601=seconds" and "date-rfc33390seconds", none works. There is no mention in the sources of "rfc8601", only date-rfc3164 and date-rfc3339. [opensuse] failed qgis rpm

Running opensuse 11.3 on a dual core pc. Not sure whether this is an opensuse or qgis problem - When attempting to launch qgis, i get the following error: qgis: error while loading shared libraries: libnetcdf.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. Qgis, netcdf,gdal1, etc were all installed via rpm. The above shared library is in my path, but still no luck. Anyone have an idea what might be amiss?
