[opensuse] 11.1 yast2 ncurses sysconfig editor is still broken

Listmates, 11.1 is just plain frustrating! Every time I boot it up I end up filing another bug report on things that have worked since 8.0? The latest is the sysconfig editor. You can't add an apache2 module now we are going to have to break SuSEConfig's check of /etc/sysconfig/apache2 by manually editing the file. The bug is: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=474650 Details: With Bugs 457093 & 461868 marked FIXED I tried using the ncurses sysconfig editor again, this time attempting to set network -> www -> apache2 -> APACHE_MODULES to add the deflate module. There is no way to add anything or even get to the text entry line just exactly like the two bugs above. I have installed all updates. Am I doing something wrong or is the ncurses sysconfig editor still broken? I presumed that the operation of the sysconfig editor was fixed when the two bugs above were marked FIXED or did nobody check the sysconfig editor's operation beyond the DAILY_TIME variable? Mine is no great shakes, either. I didn't buy it for 3D performance, rather I bought it based on a Toms's hardware review of DVI video signal quality from various vendors's cards. Because of my aversion to fiddling with anything related to video hardware, drivers or the X11 server configuration, I've not tried changing anything in Xorg.conf. Just got a new monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 2343BW) which supports the following resolution: Res. Hor.Freq.kHz Vert.Freq.Hz Pixel clock MHz 2048x1152 70.992 59.909 156.750 When I run Yast2->Graphics card and Monitor, the resolution is not available. My xorg.conf looks like this: http://pastebin.com/m6af4847d I added the "2048x1158" values myself, but I have to admit I don't know what I'm doing with regards to xorg.conf. [opensuse] 10.3 - Compiz -- Lost emerald .. again after updates

List, Ben What gives with emerald? I had been rocking along with a 10.3 box with compiz & my emerald themes with no problems for quite some time. Then after an update, *poof* no more emerald. So I did the normal and usual: sudo rpm -e $(rpm -qa | grep compiz) $(rpm -qa | grep ccsm) fusion-icon Then proceeded to the X11:/XGL repository and reloaded compiz for my kde3 install like I have done many times before. Started compiz - and still _no windows decorations_ at all. Huh? Ok, select 'kde window decoration' and reload the desktop and _still no window decorations_ at all. kwin --replace & start it manually with: compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp --indirect-rendering --no-libgl-fallback ccp & Compiz is working brilliantly but _still no window decorations_ at all. Ok, start emerald manually with emerald --replace & and look for clues. compiz (core) - Warn: No GLXFBConfig for depth 32 Doesn't look terribly impressive, compare compiz install with other box. Other box has compiz-emerald-themes-0.6.0-1.1, and this box has,.. WTF?? no compiz-emerald-themes _at all_. How did I miss installing that. Back to the X11:XGL repo, .... looking, WTF? Where the hell did the compiz-emerald-themes go? It's nowhere to be found. OK -- Who forgot to put the emerald themes back in the X11:/XGL directory? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. How do you configure GDM not to display the user list. I tried altering the custom.conf and adding the IncludeAll=False under greeter. [opensuse] Installing VirtualBox

I've installed VirtualBox from YaST, specifically the packages: virtualbox-ose virtualbox-ose-guest-tools virtualbox-ose-kmp-default (This is the default kernel) xorg-x11-driver-virtualbox-ose (Mouse & Video driver) Calling 'virtualbox' at a terminal does nothing. I do not find anything that looks like an executable for this program, so something seems to be missing. Besides two additional kernels of the same size as the default ("debug" and "trace"), there is another, much smaller "kernel" called virtualbox-ose-kmp- pae, and maybe that is what is missing. But if someone can confirm that, I would feel much easier in making the experiment. [opensuse] USB problems?

I'm running into a bit of an annoying issue with my USB drives. I can plug a drive in, it's found, mountable etc. I can start copying files to the drive, and after a while... say 15 minutes doing a mass copy, the USB drive seem to loose its mount (I don't know how else to describe it), and the copy fails. At this point, the only way to get the drive back is to disconnect/reconnect. I can duplicate this over and over... as long as the data I'm copying is in small bits it all seems to work ok, but if I copy larger amounts, or am copying small bits for a wile, the drive again just drops off. [opensuse] USB Headset and the sound system

I am on openSUSE 11.1 with kde3 and trying to configure Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB™ Headset, which used to work under openSUSE 10.3. I add them, as I used to and as recommended here http://en.opensuse.org/USB_headphones, through yast/hardware/sound, make a primary sound card and... don't here a sound. What's more, the test sound is not played even for the on-board soundcard that actually works. How do I make this headset work in openSUSE 11.1? Dear Listmates, I was thinking of buying one of these beasts as a birthday present: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/fi/fi/sm/WF05a/321957-321957-64295-306995-30… Has anyone any experience on this? I'd be installing it with suse 11.1. It seems that people have had (relatively) hard times getting it work: http://www.linuxjournal.com/video/review-hp-2133-mini-note I am just wondering if the video card and wireless and audio are well supported..
