[opensuse] Knetworkmanager-kde & vpnc

Hello, When using vpnc to connect to my company's VPN, things are working fine. However, when I try to go through Knetwork-manager interface, it doesn't work. I use Edit connections -> New connection -> VPN -> vpnc and fill in the requested information, but when I select "Start VPN connection, on the first attempt I am asked my group and user password but then, nothing happens. It doesn't tell me if there is anything wrong, if I am connected or not (although I can see I am not by browsing to secure pages). Now, if I run "vpnc myVPN.conf", it works fine. Is there a way to get knetworkmanager logs? How can I know what's wrong? I thought it was only an interface to vpnc... [opensuse] IBM Pro Wireless 2915ABG flaky under OpenSuSE 11.1 32-bit

Hi all, I've got an IBM ThinkPad T32p laptop with an IBM Pro Wireless 2915ABG for WiFi card. At some point the thing started to fail to connect, or connect and then fail within seconds. Well, I said, the WiFi card must be on its last legs - and that certainly was a possibility. Except that, just for kicks, I then booted the system off a Mandriva Live 2009 CD and the WiFi worked like a charm. If anybody's got any idea what may be the cause of this mess, please share them. [opensuse] kmail w/ gmail via imap?

All, I'm using kmail from the factory KDE 4.2 repository. I just setup kmail to use imap to work with my gmail account. The setup went smooth enough, but I've had kmail segfault about 5 times in the 15 minutes or so of real usage I've had. Am I wasting my time in this experiment, or do people have this working? [opensuse] 11.1 install question

I've done a clean install of 11.1. I selected kde 3.5 instead of kde 4.x. At the logon I have gdm not kdm. I login and I have a gnome Desktop, not a kde desktop? I changed the display manager in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager from gdm to kdm the ran SuSEconfig. Then I rebooted. I got kdm but still have a gnome desktop. What is the trick to doing a clean install and having kde 3.5 as my desktop with NO gnome? [opensuse] How to mirror rpms with rsync from OSB?

Listmates, When I have a number of machines to update, I usually just create a temporary directory and download the needed rpms and then install from there. I generally use wget, but then I have to delete a bunch of stuff I didn't need link index.html, the ymp files, etc. I was going to try a simple rsync of the rpms, but I can't figure out how to form the command line. I was trying to download the compiz i586 rpms with the following (and several variations). I'm normally very good with rsync, what's the trick here? rsync -avn download.opensuse.org:/repositories/X11\:/XGL/openSUSE_10.3/i586 . Is it just not possible? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. [opensuse] Lost All Window Decorations in Compiz on 10.3 - Still Stuck?

Listmates, I have the frustrating situation on a 10.3 i586 box of having lost all windows decorations in compiz. Normally you just lose emerald decor, but kde decor will still work. In this case I have lost _all_ window decorations, both kde and emerald. I have tried all the usual tricks: Uninstalling/Reinstalling Compiz from the X11:/XGL repo; deleting ~/.config/compiz and ~/.xcompmgrrc; starting compiz and manually forcing emerald --replace &; kwin --replace &; logging out/in, but still NO decorations at all in compiz. I suspect the problem lies with a configuration item that was set somewhere when the box was updated several weeks ago. Bewilderingly, 203 weeks ago the update resulted in newer compiz rpms than are presently on the X11:/XGL server. Specifically, when I updated then, the following versions were installed: compizconfig-settings-manager-0.7.6-2.7 compiz-emerald-0.7.6-2.6 compiz-emerald-themes-0.6.0-1.1 compiz-fusion-plugins-extra-0.7.6-10.6 compiz-fusion-plugins-main-0.7.6-3.6 libcompizconfig-0.7.6-2.7 python-compizconfig-0.7.6-2.6 Then two days ago when I did the uninstall/reinstall, the only packages available on X11:/XGL were: compizconfig-settings-manager-0.7.6-2.2 compiz-emerald-0.7.6-2.2 compiz-emerald-themes-0.5.2-6 compiz-fusion-plugins-extra-0.7.6-10.2 compiz-fusion-plugins-main-0.7.6-3.2 libcompizconfig-0.7.6-2.2 python-compizconfig-0.7.6-2.2 Huh? Where did the newer versions go? I don't know enough about the inner workings of compiz to know whether the downgrade of minor versions by the 4 or 5 version numbers shown above is at the root of the problem or not, but that is the only thing I can put my fingers on. I have 4 other 10.3 i586 boxes and 1 x86_64 box that have no problems, so I am really baffled as to why this box suddenly won't display window decorations with compiz. Having deleted ~/.config/compiz, I am confident that it isn't a setting in my configuration causing the problem. Compiz works just fine other than the window decorations being gone. The desktop is kde 3.5. My xorg.conf is unchanged. The card is nvidia. Do any of you have any ideas what I can do/check to try and get the windows decorations back? Thanks -- David C. [opensuse] round robin dns for the repo mirrors

grr, heads up, ran into a nice little glitch in the whole dns load balancing scheme for the repo mirrors. At least some of the hostnames don't actually point to a server but to a dns loadbalancer that selects from a pool of physical servers. You get whatever you get, unless you want to start using IP's. The problem is, at least sometimes, the different physical hosts _don't have the same contents_ as each other. This royally screwed up an rsync mirror script I have which TRIES to be careful and test for the existence of the target dir before performing a potentially destructive rsync from it. In the past I had whole sets of my local repos deleted when they dissappeared off the remote servers. So, I added a check to my script, instead of just rsyncing, check if it's still there first, then rsync for real only after verifying that it's still there. That kind of all blows up if I test a directory on mirrors.kernel.org and it's THERE, and then I do a real rsync to the same exact host/path, only this time I got a different IP and the directory is NOT THERE. What the heck can you even DO in that case? Even removing --del from my rsync options doesn't solve it. My repo's getting cluttered up with old files I could live with, but if I never know if the index files (whose filenames don't change as updates are applied) are some old copy from an out of date host or a current copy at any given moment, depending on the luck of the draw the last time the mirror script ran. The exact example I noticed just now was I was working on the mirror script and using 10.2/oss as a test case for a repo that has dissappeared off most servers. I was trying to get it so that when 10.3 goes away, my script notices it and doesn't wipe out my local copy that day. When I run this test, it alternates every other time, pass, fail, pass, fail, ... tst () { rsync -qn rsync://${1}/ >/dev/null 2>&1 && echo yes || echo no ; } X="mirrors.kernel.org/mirrors/opensuse/distribution/10.2/repo/oss" tst $X yes tst $X no tst $X yes tst $X no If I ping -c 1 mirrors.kernel.org repeatedly, it flip flops between two different ips, which explains everything. That might explain Davids mystery with that X11/ati repo the other day too. I'm glad I noticed this before 10.3 disappears, because obviously even a good simple empirical test like this isn't useful and my stuff would have been deleted anyways. Hi list, - just wanted to install (via YaST) the kernel source for my plain vanilla standard 11.0 kernel (2.6.25.20-0.1-pae). - In YaST I get (xlated from danish): ERROR: The package kernel-source-2.6.25.20-0.1 did not pass the integrity check. I tried several times - with different internet connections, same result.
