[opensuse] Upgrade from 10.1 to 11.1

Has anyone done this specific upgrade of openSUSE? If so, any pitfalls? I sent a couple of replies to - I thought - the mailing list, but not seeing them show up, I went to look in my sent folder and it appears that when I hit the "r" key on my keyboard, it sent them to individuals rather than the list. Hello suse users: I started experiencing with KDE4 in opensuse 11.1. I am not very amazed, to say the least. Right now I would like to know how to do some basic things (at least basic in KDE3) in kde4: 1. How can I hide the panel? How can I add hide buttons to the panel? 2. How can I place/mount removable devices, as USB flashdisk, floppy etc onto the desktop as before? 3. I do not like the 'kickoff' start menu so I always switch to the older mode. How can I add the recently used option there? Why can not I add application icons to the desktop and panel from this menu? 4. How can I set the font size of the digital clock in the panel? The fonts of the date are just too small. In KDE3 it was easy to set the size both of the time and of the date, independently. 5. How can I set the panel style (background, transparency, applets handlers visible etc.)? In KDE3 almost everything can be adjusted. 6. I dont like the blue start menu icon with le left arrow, how can I change it to the conventional suse start menu icon? For now it seem to me that KDE4 is more like gnome than classical (very nice, polished and useable) KDE3. [opensuse] Enable/Disable XGL from the command-line?

I've got a program that I'd like to run outside of xgl. Prior to openSUSE 11.0, you could run gnome-xgl-switch to disable xgl effects, but in 11.0 that command was removed. The readme says to use "xgl-switch", but that is used to change the default X server startup, and that's not what I want to do. What I want is the same effect as unchecking the "enable desktop effects box" in simple-ccsm. I want to write a startup script for the program that disables xgl and uses xrandr to change the screen resolution) before launching the program and resets both when the program terminates. I am currently running openSUSE 11.0 - giving 11.1 a few months before I upgrade. [opensuse] Getting package conflicts when upgrading to KDE4.2

I'm using openSUSE 11.1 with KDE4.1.3 and i'd like to update to KDE4.2. So i clicked on the link http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openS… expecting yast to do the rest for me. Instead i get a bunch of package conflicts like: - kde4-knewsticker-4.1.3-4.11.x86_64 requires kdepimlibs4 < 4.1.60, but this requirement cannot be provided - compiz-kde4-0.7.8-9.1.x86_64 requires libplasma.so.2()(64bit), but this requirement cannot be provided - kdelibs4-4.1.3-4.9.x86_64 requires libkde4 = 4.1.3, but this requirement cannot be provided Do i have to had another repo or something for this to go smoothly ? [opensuse] Fedora Vs. Opensuse

Right off the bat, let me just say this is not meant to end up as a flame bait. I am currently just at a crossroad as whether to install fedora 10 or opensuse 11.1 on my laptop and I am at a loss as both of them seems to be equally matched. Can the people of the opensuse mailing just tell me one or two reasons why you prefer opensuse compared to Fedora?
