It is eminently fair and for the most part, accurate. I think any inaccuracies could be attributable to unfamiliarity rather than bias. If this reviewer hadn't been what I would call a 'Power-user', and had instead been someone converting from Windows, not only would they probably not have had a successful install, but would have an article that Microsoft would probably have printed in full page ads throughout the world. [opensuse] 11.1 on a thinkpad T500

installed it yesterday on my brand new thinkpad, and most of the basic stuff seems to be working : tested the wired/wireless connection :ok. can write DVD's, sound is ok, hibernation and sleep : ok , sdcard reader : ok, and last but not least, video graphics, weel that's a special case with this laptop, it includes 2 graphic controller : 1 discrete, the ati hd3650 and am integrated controller , intel mobile GM45 express chipset. i knew i wasn't going to get this switchable graphics thing in order... by default, the installation chooses the intel chipset. which works ok, but doesn't give you the power of the ATI. i changed the bios setting to discrete graphics ( swichable off ). when booted into command line, i could run sax and it installed the correct ATI drivers. but the next reboot set me back to the intel chipset, and indeed the bios was back to switchable graphics enabled ? jef peeraer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help(a)opensuse.org

[opensuse] kde4 konqueror will not connect via proxy

The proxy works for firefox but not for konq in 11.0 kde 4. I've tested the proxy via yast and it works fine. Also, other browsers recognise it. Bug? [opensuse] curl error-connection time out

Today I finally installing opensuse 11.1 kde 4.2 in all machines. Q. Using yast software manager to update the system very often I get a curl error and a connection time out. I retry and everything is OK. Everything is working OK but I had to be behind the screen to interact all the time with this connection time outs. I do not remember anything like that previously. [opensuse] Annoying Desktop behaviour of Programmes

Hi all, what is beginning to be quite annoying is working with different Desktops. I have different working groups organised on a desktop each. I often have OpenOffice Writer, Calc and Firefox open on various desktops. When I open up a link on Desktop 1 in Thunderbird, a window opens on the latest FireFox I used prevously; the one on the other desktop I used last. I have to hunt down in which desktop it opened by going to each desktop and activate it. This also happens when I open an OpenOffice document or calc file with konqueror. Closing all apps on the desktops before going to another desktop defeats the purpose of having different desktops - or have I missed the rational behind different desktops. [opensuse] Problem with codec installer in opensuse

I performed a fresh install of opensuse 10.3 and proceeded to go to http://software.opensuse.org/search for the codecs I selected and executed Codec-Audio-Video.ymp. During the installation process I received a dialogbox with the following major message and assoc options. Anybody tried it?, is it actually being used on the Opensuse project?. Looks interesting.... Maybe it can replace workflow apps on Domino/Notes... In a real world scenario these workflows are highly dynamic, but still many systems try to hardcode the business logic. That leads to raising efforts to adapt the system. Here is where SWAMP steps in: The workflow is designed in a XML based meta language in one file which is read by SWAMP. [opensuse] Is an update to KDE 3.5.10 OK?

Listmates, Before I regret it, has anybody had any bad experience with an update to KDE 3.5.10. I seem to recall a week or so ago, there was a complaint about 3.5.10, but there was very little follow up. That leads me to believe all is safe. [opensuse] 10.2 still crashing; KDE freezes; command-line shutdown fails

I first posted this problem on 23 Dec 2008. Since then, it has recurred every other day or so, sometimes more than once a day. KDE freezes up. Windows fail to respond to close requests. Window termination messages appear. System slows to a crawl. KDE does not shutdown. Today, I managed to enter a command-line shutdown. The command was accepted and I got the "shutdown in 0 seconds" message. But no further shutdown processing occurred. As a diagnostic, I've created a bash script that saves ps output in a file every three seconds. CPU usage and swap usage figures do not seem excessive. Are there better diagnostics I can run? If this is a loop in Xorg, is there a way to identify the block of code it is in? - - - Here is my original message, dated 23 Dec 2008: I have a severe intermittant problem and need help. I hope I'm posting this report on the correct list. I installed 10.2 about a month ago on a new computer. Two or three times a week, I get locked out. It happened twice yesterday. KDE first slows to a crawl then quickly freezes with active screens incompletely rendered. Usually I lose only the keyboard, but last night I also lost the mouse. Either way, the system dies. I'm sometimes able to press Ctrl-Alt-F1 just before the freeze. Even "top", running in that console under root, stopped updating its display. "xorg", with 0.7 CPU percent, was at the top of the display when the lock-out occurred. Sometimes I am able to close several KDE applications before the complete freeze. Was not able to log out, however. [opensuse] openSUSE 11.1 evolution and ICS calender in HTML formatted messages

Should evolution be able to show calender events that are in HTML formatted messages? I see that our company has changed the default to format messages as such. So meeting invitations I get from co-workers no longer work as they did. I realize that this is perhaps a local issue - but I doubt I will be able to sway policy. The answer will be "Use Outlook"... Perhaps I am missing a plugin?
