[opensuse] OpenSUSE 11.1, Dell Latitude E4300 & Hibernate/Resume :-(

Hello everybody, I have some troubles regarding Hibernate/Resume on my Dell Latitude E4300. While hibernating works fine I resuming again does not :-( I guess that problem is somehow related to X as hibernate/resume on the text console works fine but as soon as I switch back to X the system completely freezes (no ping, no ssh, no mouse, nothing ...). The system also freezes when hibernating from X and resuming into X again. I know there are some issues regarding the intel drivers (the E4300 has a Intel GS45 chipset and thus Intel GMA X4500 graphics) but I read some "experience reports" on the web that told about working hibernate/resume. I friend of mine mentioned the i915 kernel module as possible source for that problem. That module, however, is not even loaded on my system. Hibernate/resume results in a froozen X with the following kernels: 2.6.27.{10,11,12,13} and 2.6.28.{0,1,2}. Has anybody observed similar problems? Any hints are appreciated! I run a dual head configuration with a non-rectangular desktop (1280x800 + 1280x1024) and disabled DRI.

[opensuse] how does bugzilla work?

Bug 445320 concerns the intel 845 (and I think many other) Intel graphics. It only allows framebuffer graphics for these chipsets. It was found in 11.1 rc1. I've sent in some extra info and voted for the bug. I'm not sure how bugzilla works but an upgrade to 11.1 would render my 20 node lan useless due to screen flicker. My main concern is when are rc bugs fixed? Is it likely to be fixed before release this week? If not what is the usual timescale? The last properly working one to my knowledge was 2.3.1 My work around is to use cups or ps2pdf, since postscript files are properly generated. [opensuse] Any way to Save .bash_history command to file when HISTSIZE= is reached?

Listmates, Is there any way to Save .bash_history command to file when HISTSIZE= limit is reached? I would love to be able to hack whatever command removes entries from the .bash_history file and have it append that cli to something like history.sav so I could save old command lines. The problem is that I don't know where this code lives or whether it is even accessible to me. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks. -- David C. [opensuse] No boot screen anymore...

Hey gang, After an kernel update with Yast (last year...took me a while to remember to ask about this!), when I rebooted my (10.3) system, instead of a nice green (or hope of hope, the penguins) screen, I get a bunch of words in a large(ish) font scrolling by real fast before the login screen finally pops up (it looks like the stuff one would later find in /var/log of somekind). What happened? Why did a kernel update change my nice green screen to this suddenly? How do I get my screen back instead of this humongous ugliness of gibberish scrolling along? Is it something to do with menu.lst, which this is what mine looks like: ------------- # Modified by YaST2. [opensuse] Citrix client for openSUSE 11.1

I have just tried to install the 'latest' citrix linux client from citrix via an RPM. It requires /usr/lib/libXm.so.3, but 11.1 comes with /usr/lib/libXm.so.4. How have others sorted this? I need to access a web-based citrix server. Any advice on the best way on openSUSE 11.1? [opensuse] Slow SSH, well sort of...

I'm on (any SuSE) a local machine, accessing a particular remote machine running SuSE11.0 using SSH all plain vanilla. From my local machine to others out there, things are fast as expected. To the troubled machine (openSuSE11) things are slow this way: I takes a looooooooooong time to log in. Once in, anything typed echoes back as expected, for example "l" to get a directory listing. But - the listing itself takes 10 - 15 seconds to emerge. If I open two ssh shells to the troubled machine and keep an eye on the live log (using tail -f /var/log/messages), I see nothing wrong. I see, however, that the log entry for someone logging in emerges imediately, but the actual prompt (in my second ssh shell) does appear only after like 10 seconds after the line in the log is seen. I do see one line in the log though..it says: "Did not receive identification string from (my IP)" I read somewhere that this is caused "by the host not running ident.d" (??) Anyone knows anything? List, Sandy: I am trying to figure out why different SSL fingerprints are returned for a dovecot imap mailbox depending on whether you get the fingerprint from a fetchmail dump with: /usr/bin/fetchmail -a -v -n --folder spam-learn or whether you get the fingerprint directly from the cert: openssl x509 -in /etc/ssl/certs/dovecot.pem -noout -fingerprint Am I looking at different fingerprints? the mail.domain fingerprint versus the SHA1 fingerprint? [opensuse] Who is using Gnome?

For me, KDE4 looks to be not worth the learning curve. Since KDE4 forces me to learn *something* new and less usable than KDE3 it seems worth considering Gnome. I'd be interested in hearing from those who use it and what their experiences are.
