[opensuse] Keyboard woes

I’m no longer able to use my custom keyboard layout (Open SUSE 11.0); keyboard switching has also stopped working. I’ve made changes from time to time to the default Irish keyboard layout (/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/ie), and they have always worked. I made some more changes today, and since then neither the keyboard layout nor changes I made previously to the arrangement of qualifier keys (level 2 select, compose, etc.) are working. In Control Centre, when I select, for example, Regional and accessibility > Keyboard layout > Xkb options > Third-level choosers > Press left-alt key to choose 3rd level, this change does not seem to be preserved; nor does it work if I enter the corresponding command in the terminal (setxkbmap -option lv3:lalt_switch). Now the default (Irish) keyboard layout, which I have preserved unchanged, does not work either. No doubt I accidentally changed something I don’t understand. Any help or hints would be gratefully appreciated. [opensuse] File associations issue with FIreFox

Runing openSUSE 11.0 I have an issue with Firefox. Mainly I need to open PDF files from a website. When I would select the PDF file it could never open it with the right application. So one time I told it open with Adobe Acrobat and it did. Now I can select "Open" from the downloads list and the PDF files open with Adobe Acrobat (but they always did from Konquerer file manager) BUT now it seens EVERY file from within Firefox opens with Adobe Acrobat. [opensuse] cloned drive -- /dev/disk error (suse 10.3)

Hello, Have cloned Linux drives in the past, but this is the first time I have seen this. Grub initiates and the Os begins to load until it errors at... ......Could not find /dev/disk/by-id/scsi_SATA_WDC_WD400BB-23FWD-WMAj3002459-part3. Want me to fall back to /dev/disk/by-id/scsi_SATA_WDC_WD400BB-23FWD-WMAj3002459-part3? (Y/n) {selecting Yes restarts the above process and returns you to the above question, while selecting 'no' show the following} not found -- exiting to /bin/sh sh: no job control in this shell. <snip> What is the best way to recover from this? The above request is looking for the source drive model which is slightly different that target, cloned drive. Can this be fixed from the repair DVD/CD? [opensuse] Cannot write to ext3 usb drive as normal user

Hello, I have a 250 GB ext usb drive for my laptop. When I plug it in it is recognized but normal user cannot write to it. The root user can, but not me as phil. How can I configure this for normal users to write the ext usb drive, please? [opensuse] Issue with Firefox 32-bit on 64-bit openSUSE

I switched my Firefox install from 64-bit to 32-bit so Java plugin could work. At first the homepage did not load but that was fixed when I switched the firefox-branding package to 64-bit. However the "Recently closed tabs" feature and also spell-check do not work. [opensuse] Scope of logins via Windows Active Directory account

Is there any documentation (openSUSE 11.0) on the scope of where you can do logins authenticated with a Windows Active Directory server? For example, you can login via KDE, but not via ssh or at the console. Unless I am typing something wrong. I thought the Windows authentication was added to PAM, meaning that anything that uses PAM to authenticate a user would work. Also, which file system accesses can be authenticated this way? After you log in, I guess (do not know) that file systems (CIFS/SMB) on other machines that also authenticate in the same domain should be accessible. Without a password prompt? How about users not logged in that want to access a local CIFS/SMB share? I would think that they would be prompted and authenticated against the Windows AD. All this is mainly conjecture on my part. So, any docs at all that pertain to openSUSE11 would be greatly appreciated! [opensuse] Yast and repositories

In 10.3, Yast had a list of many popular community repositories that you could enable. Just to make life that one bit easier. Did I miss something, or did this go missing in 11.0? I think the Yast ICON was called something obvious like "Communiry Repositories". I do not think I have missed installing a Yast module for this. Is the new method that you should go to the opensuse web page with lists of repositories and add them there? OK now my fail2ban is working. I have thousand of email informing me that some IPs are blocked. But the question is the same will attack again when the banned time is over. So except playing with banned time, is there anything that we can do?
