[opensuse] Joining Windows domain during openSUSE 11.0 install

Problem 1: I decided that I would try to see how joining an Active Directory works in openSUSE 11.0. So, during install (not finished pending resolution of this), I have selected to join one. I have entered what I think is correct information. At some point, it will verify workgroup membership. A dialog box appears that lets you enter a user and password. The dialog offers that if I set both items to empty strings, I will be logged in anonymously. I have done this and it fails saying "Failed to join domain. User specified does not have administrator privileges." Sort of makes sense that an anonymous user would not have administrator privileges. But as I am joining a corporate Active Directory, I am hardly going to be given the Administrator password. Do I really need the corporate Active Directory's Administrator password for letting my Linux machine validate users against a AD server? If so, I find it hard to imagine this is ever used in a real corporate environment. So it must be something else. I do not see any more information on any consoles, nor in /var/log files. Problem 2: I am doing this during an install. This step is failing, and I do not have information to make it proceed (unless some kind soul has a useful answer for problem 1). My only choices are to proceed (can't because it fails) or to abort the installation. I seem not to be able to just skip past this step. Or am I missing something? I tried looking in the process list for a likely process to kill that may make yast proceed with the install. But there was nothing obvious. It would run whatever login scripts there were set up for me on our server. But many commands in the script failed, and the log window went away before I could save a copy. IIRC, some drives were set up. At that time, Novell said the client was not really supported on SUSE 10.0. I seem to recall an announcement recently that the Novell Client for Linux was now supported on 11.0. Thus my interest. It is indeed odd that the RPM for this is not in the openSUSE install. It seems iPrint looks for the Linux PPD files in a different place than it looks for the Windows ones. If our printer maintainers install a Windows PPD, they probably won't install the Linux one. [opensuse] openSUSE 11.0 - differences in when you join a Windows Adtive Directory?

When installing openSUSE 11.0, you are offered a choice to have users authenticated against a Windows AD. If you select not to do so during the install, will the system be set up to do so when, laser in Yast, you join a Windows AD? Is there any downside to waiting for later to join the AD? Good luck ;) I have the Netware Client 2.0 running on my openSUSE 11.0 here... quiet a challange, as there is still no repository available (which would make it really easy to install) and there are plenty of links you have to set, as some libs are not in the expected versions.... so a huge mess.. and several things just do not work the way they should (like deleting recursively a directory on a netware server using nautilus; it works with rm -rf though). For iPrint I had less luck yet, but that might simply be because we do not have the PPD files in the broker (did not try that yet). Otherwise, by using iprntcmd, it seems just to hang here with a huge timeout... curious to read some of your findings though. You cannot have to many disks filled with backups :D. To check wether the mobo is bad you could try and stick another (non-critical data) disk (diff brand preferably) on the same connector. If it sends the same messages, you may have a bad controller and still be happy with your disk. Just be sure to back the data up as fast as you can. A dying disk may stop giving SMART messages for some time before it dies for good. SMART is not a good way of determinig wether a disk will die soon, just the only way. [opensuse] A great mystery lies within

Hi, just my curiosity provokes me to send this to the list. I was trying to investigate a product online, and clicked on the buy button that redirects one to the online store. If I do this in linux, a new browser will open up, but never load. It always stays blank. It does this in Firefox, Opera, Konqueror, and IE6 (IEs4Linux). Eventually it will say service unavailable. The website is: http://whitelightning.net/store.html But, if I open the website in WinXP & IE7 and click on the buy button, the online store will load in a new browser window and one may purchase items from the list. I have tried changing the browser identification to IE6 or 7 on Windows using browser spoofing agents in Firefox and Konqueror on the Opensuse OS, but it didn't help. Just curious, can anyone clue me into why this is happening? Its a new day, and time to learn something new.
