[opensuse] odd problem with acroread

Today I noticed that acroread plugin for firefox was not working and found the plugin was not on disk. I know not why, haven't had any reason or case to mess with it :^( Acroread itself would not start, appeared files were gone, but rpm still showed it installed. So I reinstalled acroread, acroread-8.1.2-1.10@i586 This is an x86_64 system, but I have not had problems with x86 packages. openSUSE 10.1 firefox 2.0.0.14 I still cannot run acroread and it will not work in firefox. I found one report on google, but no resolution, suggestion of bad glibc. [opensuse] mailx set EDITOR="/usr/bin/vi" not working?

Listmates, I am trying to set the default editor for mailx to vi. I have added the following to my .mailrc file: set EDITOR="/usr/bin/vi" Still when I start a message, I get some incomprehensible ed like editor that I can't make heads or tails of. Any ideas of how to make vi the default? From man mailx: EDITOR Pathname of the text editor to use in the edit command and ~e escape. If not defined, then a default editor is used. The setting is formatted the same as my other setting in .mailrc, but I can't make the editor change work. Thanks. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. James, I assume you can modify menu.lst via yast, but I directly edit /boot/grub/menu.lst On my workstation with a default menu.lst file I have: root=/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_ST3250310AS_9RY00PYW-part5 in the middle of my kernel boot line. In my case that would simply need to be "root=/dev/sda5" instead. Not the part5 and the sda5 are in sync. You need to do that as well. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks Greg. I think what is happening is the cloning software is not recognizing nor cloning the /dev/sda3 XFS partition from the source to the target. I have five identical machines and I only want to install on one and clone the install to the rest of the machines. Any recommendations on the most efficient way to accomplish this? [opensuse] in thunderbird, all my saved list mails not showing, but still in file

Listmates, In thunderbird, I did something that made all my saved opensuse list messages disappear. I thought at first I had deleted them with a stray ctrl+shif+A followed by a shift+del, (accidentally done with 'caplocks' on) but apparently I didn't do that because all the messages are still in my "/home/david/.thunderbird/2k12pnl0.default/Mail/pop.suddenlinkmail.com/openSuSE" file. Looking at the file in text it contains all the saved mails for approximately the past year, but only the messages for the last 2 days are visible from within thunderbird itself. I have checked all the "view setting" so that isn't the problem. One thing that has changed is the ".../openSuSE.msf" file size. It has gone from several megabytes down to ~30k. I know this is where the problem lies, but this is where I am stuck. I have tried right-clicking the folder->properties->rebuild index, but that just rebuilds the index for the past couple of days. I have tried moving the file somewhere else and forcing a rebuild, but that doesn't work either. There must be something else I need to delete. I have a backup, but not with all the threads trimmed down, etc. I would like to find a fix so I don't have to wade through that again. How do I tell tbird to reindex all the messages and give me the full folder back?? It seems like a simple reindex should do, but no dice. Anybody have any experience/suggestions on this one? -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Using an off-the-shelf product for cloning, the software does not recognize the XFS partition on the source drive and therefore it is not appearing on the target drive. Using the Suse DVD to boot from, what is the best way to clone one Linux drive to another? [opensuse] Installing kernel >= 2.6.21 on SLED10

Due to bug http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3328, I'd like to install kernel version 2.6.21 or newer on SLED10 systems. I've found several kernel packages for SLES/SLED on http://software.opensuse.org/search, but they all fail to install because of failed dependencies. In particular, I haven't been able to find a kernel package which works with sysfsutils < 2.0. SLED10 uses 1.3. Upgrading this package seems non-trival. How can these kernel packages be installed? [opensuse] usb cdc problem

Hi Im getting problem with my usb device in which i got an application which emulates serial port. In XP everything works well so device its not corrupted. Device contains arm proceesor. I tried to install on OpenSuSE 10.3 jwm ( joe window manager ) and conky ( both from source ) but the ./configure script tells me that I don't have X11. X11 there is.
