[opensuse] LAMP Install

I'm trying to set up a LAMP stack on my OpenSuSE 10.3 server. First, being ignorant of the existence of a lamp stack pattern in the install software GUI, I tried installing everything separately. This did not work out. Then having discovered a lamp stack pattern in the install software GUI, I tried that. To shorten the story a bit, I tried various sequences of install and uninstall with the exact same results every time. There's a suggested PHP script that can be used to test the installation. The file name is phpinfo.php. I've tried various filenames and as long as the PHP is the file type, Firefox refuses to recognize it. If I put a PHP script inside an HTML file, The HTML part works but PHP is ignored. I checked to see if everything was installed and it appears that they are. I'm kind of lost at this point. Does anyone out there recognize the problem and can give me some hints on how to solve it? I'd appreciate any help. [opensuse] Watching DVD's

Hi All When I try to playback DVD with Totem it says it cannot find a proper decoder or such to play the DVD's. [opensuse] Can't get nfs to start

Recently, my laptop started showing its age, so I ended up replacing the hard drive, the ac power jack, and the memory. It all appears to be working satisfactorily. I've reinstalled OpenSuse 10.3. What I do not seem able to do is get at my nfs server to download all my backed up documents, etc. I'm using the machine as the server. Not Changed except for changing from allowing only a specific machine to connect to allowing anyone on my subnet to connect. (Changed from 192.168.1.205 to 192.168.1.*) It wasn't working before I changed it either. I've tried configuring the laptop both as dhcp and as static ip. To get the nfs service running, I go to YAST, NFS Client. I add a client, in this case the full ip address of my server - 192.168.1.200 All the exported nfs directories show up. I select one, browse to a new directory that is created just for this, /network/documents/ and finish. It keeps telling me it can't mount the entry from /etc/fstab. The firewall is off. What else can I do here - I need my laptop for a presentation tonight! [opensuse] ALERT: Confirm this re 11.0 Beta3 current upgrades

Confirm this for yourself. In recent messages it has been indicated that there is a problem with the kernel which was upgraded in the past (?)few days when zypper goes to upgrade 11.0 Beta3. Not so as far as I am concerned. The problem lies somewhere else. And this is what I am asking you to be aware of and to confirm. A short while ago I re-installed 11.0 Beta3 after trying a suggestion to fix the non-boot problem of 11.0 Beta3 after the recent upgrades by doing, amongst things, "rm /.buildenv and calling mkinitrd". Other suggestions also failed, so I decided to re-install 11.0 Beta3 from the DVD, but after installing it I wasn't going to allow zypper or smart to upgrade the kernel to 2.6.25.4-2 which is claimed to be the the cause of all the problems. Well, it's not the kernel ...25.4-2. Something else in the Factory to upgrade 11.0 Beta3 is causing the big-time problem. If you install 11.0 Beta3 to test it then do not allow it to be upgraded by zypper. (Just for the record, the version I have installed - and before the latest upgrades it was working fine - is the 32-bit version and I was using KDE4 to see what it looked liked.) I have been pointed to some You-tube sites which have music and video on them. I can see the video, but not hear the audio. Some other stuff does make the speakers work--I don't remember which. Help! [opensuse] Computer freezes on start up -- one account only

I'm running SUSE 10.0 with Gnome. On normal startup, computer freezes when loading x windows. If I startup in failsafe mode and sign on with different account, I can start x windows no problem. But if I sign in with my default account and try to start x windows, I get the same freezing problem. computer just hangs in middle of loading x windows. I can't switch to another shell or screen. Obviously, it isn't liking something that is being accessed when starting x windows in that particular account. Where should I be looking? [opensuse] Windows Domain in 11.0 beta3

OK, i have successfully installed 11.0 beta 3. I was able to join our 2003 domain but after a system restart, i am not able to login as a domain user. No domain field exists at the login screen. Isn't the domian field suppose to be there to tell the system where to login? How do i get it to show up? Like i said, the joining part worked fine but not able to login as a domain user.
