[opensuse] Questions preparing for upgrade

Hi all, Well, I still haven't quite worked out my upgrade to 10.3. I'm hoping this coming week might be the big moment. I have a few questions first, if I may impose on people's kindness a little further. 1) I'm still having trouble making a really convincing backup. I've made a disk image, in multiple sections, and am tolerably confident of that. However, I'd really like to have a file-level archive of some kind also, as I figure it will be easier to restore user data from. But the problem is that I'm backing up onto a FAT formatted USB drive (and I'd prefer to leave the formatting alone if possible). The problem is that if I use tar, cpio, etc. to retain all the Unix filesystem features (owners, permissions, links, etc.) the resulting archive is too big (2GB file limit on the FAT drive). So, the question here is how can I persuade one of these tools to split the archive into chunks when writing to a filesystem. (I can make tar split, but so far it always uses the the same output filename, so all I ever get is the last chunk!) I did notice that "pax" looks to have more comprehensive options, but I've not been able to see how to make that do the job either. 2) What's the position with 10.3 w.r.t. the usual sources of "interest", i.e. video, audio and especially wireless lan? Perhaps someone can enlighten me on this.... On the feature list I found (as a welcome surprise) this : strongSwan IKE.v2 (replacing openSwan) (Feature No: 302909) Category: Network, Security Status: done Test Result: idle Description: This is a detail of the overall IPv6 story. We need IKEv2, and the best option currently is to switch to strongSwan. As stated above, status is set to done. However, on beta-3, not only the media still contains its predescessor. But strongswan is not even included. So how can it be tested (as part of the repo) My angle is this, is not so much the "ipv6 story" allthough much advocating it, but more, that strongswan does support the use of smartcards/etokens right out of the box, thus enhancing the leven of security. It's not that very much work has been going on on stronfswan lately. Last change in the factory tree is dated on april-23rd I was (at least) exoecting to find both of them. For me it does not work :( I made a virgin installation, using the OpenSuSE 10.3/Gnome CD with my internet connection up. It gave me firefox and an adobe flash package, but these don't work for flash. As soon as I try to browse to a flash website, I get messages that I don't have the required plugin. I experimented briefly with gnash (or whatever it's called) but it dosn't appear to be usable at present. Other folks have told me I have to get the 32bit firefox for this, but I can't seem to make that happen either. Any suggestions Admiral? [opensuse] 11.0 ......a BIG update gotcha!!

DON'T update the kernel in 11.0 as there's an excellent chance that when Grub tries to startup the system, it won't boot!! This is repeatedly what I get with 11.0 64-bit. I run /opt/firefox/firefox and ask for help firefox. It says this is i686 (x86_64). But, if I ask "file /opt/firefox/firefox-bin" it says "ELF 32 bit". What's happening!? Hi all, I'm trying to get a 32 bit firefox (to support flash), I failed to see how to do this using YAST, and am looking into doing it manually. However, whenever I go to the firefox site, it seems to insist on giving me the 64 bit version for download. How can I force it to let me have a 32 bit version? I mean something like mypc and *.mypc all pointing to the IP address assigned to me.
