Just to satisfy me own feeling of huge disappointment in the new KDE4 Plasma Desktop in OpenSuse 11.0 I would like some feedback just to check my own sanity. If there is a very clear outcome of this survey one way or another we might just get KDE to look at this. To maintain sanitary if you work for either Novell.DE or Suse.DE or KDE or Gnome please do not participate At first glance I love the Desktop, however functionally its a huge disappointment with a massive amount of past functionality missing or changed for the worst. Could other please let me know what functionality you find missing and what new functionality is disappointing and what are the good points For example If you do not agree with anything on the negative list please add this to the positive list If you also agree with anything on either list please duplicate the same text line The Negative list 0. The ability to have different images per desktop. 1. The options available to panels is limiting and very poor and icons are no longer treated as objects 2. The New Personal settings I find very poor and I feel the old Kcontrol Module far more logical in its layout. 3. The layout of the Personal settings interface changes depending on different applications that is installed and it appears there is NO default layout 4. The search option in Personal Settings only searches for the exact search string - there is no indexing that is in the form of variances in the entire string. 5. The total concept of Winglets is confusing, disappointing and functionally a huge mess. 6. There is no way to escalate a users authority to root in items in Personal Settings that require root access. The Positive List 0. The look and feel of the Desktop, the new Icon sets etc.. I am also interested to know if you jump to the command prompt to change/start Network services or do you use the Interface in Yast. 0. I always use the GUI Interface 1.

[opensuse] Folder Tree on Dolphin

I've been playing with KDE 4 in a VirtualBox openSUSE 11 session. I was trying to get the file manager to show my folders in a right-pane and folders/files in a left pane similar to Konqueror or Explorer. In addition, I want the left pane to follow the right pane in terms of when I'm traversing a folder tree. I can't seem to get this in Dolphin. http://www.perfectreign.com/stuff/2008/20081026_dolphin_files.png I can make two windows but they're completely unaware of each other. It is sort of like Midnight Commander. In Konqeror and in Vista I have the left pane controlling the right one. [opensuse] Hard lockups new kernel

Hi . installed the new updated kernel yesterday the update version 2.6.22.19-0.1-default since then i have so far had 6 hard lockups System AMD 64 3500 2Gb Ram Nvidia FX5500@256Mb drives all look ok NO problem on the previous kernel . anyone else getting the same Pete . -- SuSE Linux 10.3-Alpha3. [opensuse] USB Sound card

I have a Creative Life! Sound Blaster USB connected up to my Lenovo X61 64 bit laptop. I can't seem to get it to play sound. once in a while, for no known reason, I can get yast to play the test sound through it, the rest of the time that does not even work. kmix does see it, and can interact with it (turning on and off some lights on the front and showing the various ins and outs correctly). I am running 11.0 64 bit. Hopefully someone can give me some incite into this problem. Md is just a container, i.e. to the rest of the system /dev/md0 is no different than a volume on a proper RAID controller. The filesystem type is stored on the filesystem. What *CAN* happen is md-RAID breaks (sometimes for no reason, due to a hardware failure or unclean shutdown) or one of the That is what you are seeing,.. md thinks /dev/md0 is broken so when you try to mount it, the system is not seeing a valid filesystem because md is not feeding it one. If it is RAID-1 you can mount the individual partitions using the -t[ype] option to specify that your volume is XFS. I would suggest you make a backup and reinstall using a better RAID implementation (hardware.) Otherwise you can try (and fail) to make mdadm work... it does not. <> Hello, Okay, got it going again. The trick was to delete the raid, in this case md0, and then recreate it with out mounting it in Yast. Next, I added the FS info and mount point in /etc/fstab and mounted it manually. All the data was there intact. I might add that this was raid0. Hello, I have a drive that went offline, which is now online and I need to remount it. It is part of a two drive array. Through Yast, I get an error saying it doesn't know its file system (XFS). <snip> Error It is not allowed to assign a mount point to a device with nonexistent or unknown file system. <snip> >From the CLI, how can I restart the array and pass to md what the filesystem is. [opensuse] SATA Partition limit with SATA drives under 11.1 B3 ?

For the last couple of years people have been asking for partition support beyond 15 partitions with the new libata sata driver code. I think that is in the vanilla kernel now, but I'm not positive. (Tjun Heo of Novell wrote the kernel code to support it and I think it went in to the vanilla kernel a couple months ago.) I'm not on the factory list, so it may have been discussed there but I was wondering if that limit has now been removed with the 11.1 Beta 3 release? If not, are the any bugzillas addressing this. ie. The problems should now be in user space, not kernel space. [opensuse] bashrun? How to invoke?

I just saw the posting recommending bashrun on the lizards newsletter (or similar). I installed it on my 11.0 system via the one touch installer in the OBS. Per http://bashrun.sourceforge.net/ I just need to type "bashrun" at the command prompt now to run it. No luck: > bashrun /home/gaf/.config/bashrun/.bashrunrc: line 64: /etc/profile.d/bash_completion.sh: No such file or directory I tried searching yast software manager for "bash_completion", no luck. Anyone know what I'm missing?
