[opensuse] Application QuickLauncher in KDE3 Opensuse 11.0

The Application Quick Launcher is a great tool that automatically updates the number of application that are held for Quick Launch. Any Application that is in the Quick Launcher has a great deal of RAM resources available to preload and offers an increased amount of buffers in KDE3 - opensuse 11.0. I can find the app in software management in KDE4 11.0 and install the software, however no menu item is created and no application icon is created. 1. I have no idea how to execute the KDE4 Application Quicklauncher - could some one help 2. Is anyone else troubled by the new 'Personal Settings' that take the place of Kcontrol and the great deal of functionality in KDE3 that has been dumped in KDE4 3. [opensuse] NFS mounts as regular user

Hello, Since migrating to OS 11.0, I have difficulties mounting NFS shares as a regular user. I always get the following message: ------------------------<cut>------------------------- pan@kermit:~> mount /website/ mount.nfs: rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote locking. Either use '-o nolock' to keep locks local, or start statd. ------------------------<cut>------------------------- The mounts in question are defined with the 'user' option in /etc/fstab. Looking in /etc/init.d, I found out that: nfs: # statd is started when needed by mount.nfs Just to make sure, I verified and yes, /sbin/mount.nfs is SUID root, so it shouldn't have any problem starting rpc.statd for me. If I first mount the NFS share as root, umount it, then try as a user, it works (because rpc.statd is left running, I suppose), but if I first ty as a user, it fails with the above error message. The same setup worked fine under 10.2. Also, in order to make it work at all, I had to modify the exports on the server and add the 'insecure' flag (because the new client sends the requests from an unprivileged port). [opensuse] NETWORK CARD NOT WORKING

[opensuse] compiz effects

I have the cube working for switching screens. But I when I use sphere or cylinder, it's just the cube in the sphere or cylinder. How can I get to look like a ball or some other neat things? Not that the cube isn't cool, but it's kinda boring too. I have compiz, compiz-fusion and both develop packages installed. -- Michael S. [opensuse] Upgrade from 8.2

Hello folks, First I'm very very newbie in OpenSuse. I used to work on Debian and Ubuntu. Now, I have a remote accessible (only ssh) Suse Server running under 8.2 version. I have to install apache2 and php5 in this server but I found that the best solution is first to upgrade the version to a more recent. So I have questions: - can I upgrade the version from 8.2 to 11 without a risk of lost hand? - if it is not possible, what version I can to upgrade to at most? I notice that the minimum version available actually is 10.0 (is that right?) - and finally, where can I find a good documentation for upgrading (Open)Suse without losting hand on the server? [opensuse] Sound Stopped when running VirtualBox

I am running Vista inside a VB session for work. (I know it is a holidy, but...) I have full sound support under VB - vista makes all sorts of noises. However, I just noticed Firefox wasn't playing sounds. (I was watching a video of mine on YouTube.) I then checked Amarok and finally YaST. I get the message, "xine was unable to initialize any audio drivers" when playing in Amarok. I close VirtalBox and all is good. What's going on? Hi, list! Since I am looking for a idea DVD contains only the software I need, and susestudio.com But, I think there is a better idea, how about opensuse project to provide a tool,which can run in windows and linux or Mac OS, the tool, by which, we can choose the packages & self-added-packages on-line, and download with the tool, and make DVD iso image with that tool whicle it runs on our own computer . the server provide repo, the tool choose package and make iso. [opensuse] Upgrading and installing the same packages

I just recently upgraded from 10.3 to new install of 11.0, which went very well, however I had to go through the list and pick my packages to install - again. Is there a way to pre-specify the list of packages to install ? (Ex.
