Every domain technically ends with a ., which indicates just the root of the DNS. Technically correct, it's not www.opensuse.org, but www.opensuse.org. (with a dot). You can even enter it in your browser and it will resolve correctly. [opensuse] Cluster: clvm/ais/cman/...

One of my colleage's is strugling with a cluster on a san. Currently (upto 11.0) clvm, cman and openais are not in the mainstream distro and are only available on the home-directories on the OBS. AFAIR there were plans to abandon evms in favour of clvm. (hence i didn't start with evms) Does anybody knows the status of clvm in 11.1 or SLES11? [opensuse] Custom File Icons on KDE4

Hello all, I'm trying to associate a particular file type with a set of custom file icons that comes along with the application that I've installed. The file type is a .vi (Labview Virtual Instrument) and the vendor provides all the icons during installation. Now...if I create a .vi file under KDE3, the icon gets properly associated with the file and displays a nice icon for it. However on KDE4, I'm unable to associate/set a custom file icon for it. The icons are registered in the system since I can see them while trying to set the icon types for any other file (say .odp, odt etc). [opensuse] Upgrade from 8.2

Hello folk, First I'm very very newbie in OpenSuse. I used to work on Debian and Ubuntu. Now, I have a remote accessible (only ssh) Suse Server running under 8.2 version. I have to install apache2 and php5 in this server but I found that the best solution is first to upgrade the version to a more recent. So I have questions: - can I upgrade the version from 8.2 to 11 without a risk of lost hand? - if it is not possible, what version I can to upgrade to at most? It seems that the minimal version available actually is 10.0 (is that right?) - and finally, where can I find a good documentation for newbie for upgrading (Open)Suse without losting hand on the server? Hey Guys running Beta 2 have you found that NetworkManager doesn't write to your /etc/resolv.conf? I opened up a bug report and it got closed saying that yast doesn't handle network anymore (totally irrelevant to my bug report). When I have an interface on DHCP4 (I don't care for 6 right now), nothing writes to my /etc/resolv.conf here are the permissions: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 143 2008-10-13 07:56 /etc/resolv.conf anybody that has 11.1 and it's working as expected please let me know what the ownership / permissions for your resolv.conf is.. [opensuse] Veto view of other partitions in SuSE11

Hi list - I've got a dual boot laptop with Wintendo and SuSE11. Normally the users using this one laptop boots into SuSE. - BUT...from within SuSE11 using the "My Computer" icon and the green gecko, one may browse the Windows partition. - this Windows partition is not mentioned permanently in /etc/fstab. SuSE11 show them dynamically. However, I need to permanently VETO these partitions, i.e., make them invisible. How can I prevent them from being visible at all? [opensuse] ccsm problems

Well I updated compiz but now in ccsm I can't open any of the dialogs to change settings. I just saw on /. that OOo 3.0 is out. Now, the site has a 403 error, so I can't get to it at the moment. However, the slashdot article (http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/10/13/1211224) says that a major improvement is OOXML format support. I have OOo 2.3 from openSUSE. I often open, edit and save Word and Excel 2007 documents with little issue: http://www.perfectreign.com/stuff/2008/POS_Distribution_20080918_cp20081006… http://www.perfectreign.com/stuff/2008/20081013_ooo_xlsx.jpg In fact, my only complaint is with the reviewing and commenting ability. It is still not perfect. (At which point I resort to Word running under VMWare.) I'm assuming that Novell/openSUSE maintain a seperate version of OOo that has this feature already.
