[opensuse] Hardcoded .local topleveldomain?

Hi Is the toplevel .local somewhere hardcoded in the NSS libs? There is a strange behaviour when using "getent hosts" with a .local domain in /etc/hosts. It ignores the query order defined in /etc/nsswitch.conf and searches DNS first and then files. Compare the query times for toplevel domain .local and .lokus: # time getent hosts something.local 123.123.123.123 something.local real 0m15.015s user 0m0.000s sys 0m0.004s # time getent hosts something.lokus 231.231.231.231 something.lokus real 0m0.004s user 0m0.000s sys 0m0.004s # time getent hosts 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost 123.123.11.88 myhost.example.com myhost 123.123.123.123 something.local 231.231.231.231 something.lokus real 0m0.003s user 0m0.004s sys 0m0.000s An strace of getent shows that it first contacts nscd socket, waits for 5 seconds and then opens nsswitch.conf. This 3 times. Is it a bug or a feature? It happens on Suse 10.1 and Suse 11.0. [opensuse] Firefox 3 "Open With" application/octet-stream

Hello, I have problems openening files that are sent as application/octetstream. The problem persists in the Version 3.0.3 (Mozilla Firefox on openSuSE 11.0). There are two bugzilla entries for that issue: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=406979 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=327323 Mr. Rosenauer has released a fix for that, but it hasn't be reviewed for 2 months from now. [opensuse] How do I turn off tapping

I'm running openSuse 11 on an HP 2133 netbook. Not without some oddities. When I first installed it I could not find any way to turn off 'tapping' on the touchpad. I performed an edit to b /etc/X11/xorg.conf. and creating Option "MaxTapTime" "0". Some weeks later my login went horribly wrong and I ended up creating a new one. I suspect I ran sax2 at around that time to, trying to fix the first login. Anyway tapping is back. Now I am sure that in the plethora of configuraiton tools scattered about I have seen a tick box to turn tapping off and thought 'Ah. That's where I should have gone instead of hacking config files'. [opensuse] syslinux and the mksusebootdisk script

Hello Sorry is this is reaching the wrong person but I'm trying to debug why I can't make a bootable install flash drive for opensuse 11 and while looking over the code I don't understand the purpose of following code system "cp $opt_syslinux $src/ldlinux.sys" and die "error: no syslinux?\n"; system "ls $src|grep ld"; $boot_disks = 2; unlink "$src/ldlinux.sys"; system "ls $src|grep ld"; Why copy the ldlinux.sys file and then immediately delete it? [opensuse] Migrating Mozilla Thunderbird Addressbook and message filters?

Hi, I had an unfortunate incident where the HDD went bad on a 10.2 home mailserver and document store. The OS was openSUSE(oS) 10.2 and I was using ext3. Thankfully I managed to get a copy of my /home directory to an external USB HDD just minutes before the machine HDD crashed. oS 11.0 had recently been released and so I replaced the dud HDD and loaded oS 11.0. I have copied the Maildir folders accross from the backup and am hoping there will be no major problems in setting up the caching IMAP mailserver. Before I do this though, there are so far two items I need to figure out, with your help: 1. The restoration of my email address book I would like to know what filename to look for on my backup that contains the Thunderbird email address book so that I can import this file from the backup into the new Thunderbird? 2. The restoration of message filter rules for incoming email as I have overr 200 different email folders and corresponding message rules. I generally receive a lot of email and have therefore setup mailfilters on Thunderbird to sort the email into its respective mail folder as it arrives in my Inbox. Can I copy this file in .thunderbird on my backup to the new .thunderbird and what is it called? Whatever else was in my old profile doesn't matter as I will create a new one ie spam filter. Is there anything else I have not thought of/missed ie I've thought of the Maildir, the address book, the filters as being the main items. I'd really appreciate some pointers here as I dislike using GMail or webmail. [opensuse] Opensuse 11.0 on Acer Aspire One

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello All I have followed the instructions in http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_on_the_Aspire_One I setup a USB memory stick as indicated and that worked well, I first did a network install, the install wen well, then I did an update without rebooting .. the update went well as well, bu ton reboot I got a blank screen with 'Error 2' in the top left corner. Reboot to rescue showed no /etc/grub.conf or yast2 .. I re-created the grub.conf but /boot was empty ... I then copied the SuSE11.0DVD to a USB Hard disk, I re-tried the install with the same USB memory stick with the USB drive connected .. I was quite impressed when the install routine found the drive with the source in /SuSE.11.0 on the USB drive .. the install was long ... long ... long ... but finished fine. I then rebooted and again got 'error 2' (some details omited) .. I copied /boot from my normal laptop, re-created /boot from my laptop and then got a 'done' from 'grub-install /dev/sda' @&#?%!*@ still 'error 2' I am now some pissed off .. Anyone else have this??? Aspire is the 512Meg model with the 8Gig SSD drive, I've upgraded the memory to 1Gig .. Hello I'm really having trouble getting a flash disk of the opensuse 11 dvd to become bootable and your name popped up in syslinux as the copyright holder of what appears to be vers 2.11 SuSE has a mksuseboot script on this page which I've tried, among many things I've tried and debugged at http://opensource.contentbakery.fi/suse/mksusebootdisk Nothing is working and I can't even find basic documentation like how does the system find ldlinux.sys? where does it look? where do i put the config files? How do I read the master boot record? If you can be of any assistance, I'd appreciate it. Hi List, try to compile php-5.2.6 on opensuse 11 64bit At the moment i stuck on bzip2 support. bzip2-1.0.5-13.1 is installed and my configure (short version) looks like this: ./configure --prefix=/usr --libdir=lib64 --with-config-file-path=/etc --with-bz2 Error is: Configuring extensions checking whether to enable LIBXML support... yes checking libxml2 install dir... no checking for xml2-config path... /usr/bin/xml2-config checking whether libxml build works... yes checking for OpenSSL support... no checking for Kerberos support... no checking for PCRE support... yes checking for ZLIB support... no checking if the location of ZLIB install directory is defined... no checking whether to enable bc style precision math functions... no checking for BZip2 support... yes checking for BZip2 in default path... not found configure: error: Please reinstall the BZip2 distribution I thought there is some devel-package missing but there is no one existing. I think there is some other package missing... Can you please give a little hint? Should i provide more infos?
