[opensuse] Skype/Video problems

I am using Skype with video, when I test the webcam in the configuration window all I see is a blue screen. I have the video set to auto start on conversation start, when I call someone, they can see me, but if they share there webcam with me, it shows up as being blue. If They call me, however we can both see each other. I think this may be connected to the fact that in order to view my own webcam with luvcview I must specify "disable SDL hardware accel" with the "-w" switch, or it displays as all blue also. Also, Video playback in VLC does not work with the "default" option, but it does if I use the "X11" output. I am on a Thinkpad X61 with Suse 11.0 64bit, and integrated Intel graphics. [opensuse] zypper problem

I've run into a problem with zypper on 10.3 and can't figure out how to fix it. When I run software update, or just zypper refresh, I get an error that tells me that the database is either corrupt or missing. It only happens on a couple of the repositories. I tried refresh, and it just told me the error. I don't see how to repair it, or rebuild it. [opensuse] Razr V3 on SuSE Linux?

This is marginally off-topic, so I'd be happy to take any responses off-list (unless others are interested as well). When my wife's computer's hard disk drive self-destructed, I suggested that she might want to give Linux a try, instead of replacing the Vista that her machine came with. So I installed openSuSE 11.0, with KDE 3.5, and she's been fairly pleased with it. She's not at all technical, but she's been a good sport about learning new ways to do things. It helps that MOST of what she uses a computer for are email and browsing, and Thunderbird/Firefox aren't all that different in operation from the Vista clients she's already accustomed to. The deal-breaker may be if I can't find a way for her to copy snapshots from her Motorola Razr V3 to her computer, though. I've followed up on what seemed to be promising leads, but I've never gotten anything to work. It's been an immensely popular phone over the years, however. I'm hoping that someone here has found the answer, and will share. We don't need any additional features -- like sync'ing with an address book -- we just want her to be able to copy the pictures from her phone to her computer. [opensuse] Broken screen resolution with gnome-display-properties

I'm using openSUSE 11.0/Gnome with the Nvidia driver for Quadro FX550 connected to a 24" WUXGA 1920x1200 panel. To enlarge a remote tsclient/rdp5 Windows window, I temporary selected 1600x1024 resolution with the Control Center Screen Resolution tool (gnome-display-properties). But this broke the display resolution and placed a vertical split 1/3 from left of the display. (The same thing I've done several times on my mobil workstation). The right part of the desktop is placed in the left split window and opposite. Using the Gnome desktop is practical impossible. Tried to reconfigure the screen with SaX2 from run level 3, but there everything looks ok with 1920x1200 still in use and with test. The xorg.conf also contains only 1920x1200. And beside, changig session to KDE works ok at logon. Therefore this looks not like a X problem but more like a screwed up problem in Gnome desktop and its control center screen resolution in conflict what SaX2 shows. I've been able to do a remote 'ssh -X' login and started /usr/bin/gnome-display-properties >From its menu it looks like 1280x1024 is the current resolution and there is nothing higher to select either. Therefore this looks like a screwed up problem in Gnome desktop and its control center. [opensuse] Go-OOo vs OOo-NE vs OOo 3.x

I wonder if there is some difference in functionality between Go-OOo 2.4.1 and OOo-NE (OpenOffice Novell Edition) 2.4.1? Now with OpenOffice 3.x, I wonder if Go-OOo and OOo-NE will continue with extra functionality? I.e the quickstarter menu isn't yet implemented in OOo-NE 3.0.x. Rgds, Terje J. [opensuse] Acer Extensa 4420-5963

I picked up one of these yesterday at a very good price. Does anyone have experience with these or similar? I plan to put Suse on it after I play with Vista a bit. I have no previous experience with laptops since one 15 years ago that ran Win 3.1. [opensuse] Blackberry Desktop under VirtualBox

Following the email thread "USB Under VMWare" got me wondering. I use VirtualBox for running Vista to do stuff for work. I have the Sun xVM version of Virtualbox, which allows for USB support. Here's a screen of my desktop with a 16GB Corsair drive plugged in: http://www.perfectreign.com/stuff/2008/20081012_vista_virtualbox_usb.png I went ahead and downloaded the RIM Blackberry desktop software. I installed it. I also made sure the device is selected in VBox under Devices. However, it insists the blackberry device (an 8700c) is not plugged in. Vista detects it and shows the device in the system tray. [opensuse] KDM and XDM

Hello list! I have just installed opensuse 11 and have tried to setup kdm, instead of xdm. I chose to use kdm and still xdm is running. I went to services and disabled xdm and I was dumped to the console. When I typed kdm it launched me back and I ended up with xdm still running. I have tried to change the background of the login screen and it is stuck on the suse green.
