[SLE] Grub question

Hi everybody, I have little experience with boot loaders, so I think this question might be elementary. I have 2 partitions, one with Suse 10.0 and one with 10.1. 10.1 was installed last, and I was using it's version of Grub (which detected 10.0, and added it to the boot list). This was all good, until I did an online update of 10.0. This caused 10.0 to write it's own version of Grub to the MBR (if this is how it works). My enthusiasm was not dampened by this, I just decided to add 10.1 to Grub's menu.lst of 10.0. However, Grub is smarter than me, and on reboot simply removes the entry to 10.1. What to do now. I would like to either: 1) Add 10.1 to the boot list of 10.0's Grub, AND have it remain there after reboot, or 2) Re-install 10.1's Grub to the MBR. Also I would like to know how I could avoid this problem with future updates. Currently I am unable to boot 10.1 Apologies if my techno lingo is not quite correct, I only have a passing knowledge of how these things work. [SLE] Wireless card issue

Dear list, I wanna share my experience with a wireless network card because I think others could have the same problem I'm having. Of course I also hope someone in the list can give me an advice on how to handle the issue. The card is the Belkin 802.11g Wireless Desktop Network Card, the distro is OpenSUSE 10.1. Basically the card is not supported by madwifi nor nsdiwrapper. I've inspected the PCI bus to find out that a RaLink chipset is used. RaLink makes an open driver for linux. I downloaded, compiled and installed the RaLink module. The module is loaded at startup and the card is correctly recognized. The problem I have is that Yast still doesn't see the card even if the module is loaded. If I configure (ifconfig and iwconfig) the card manually, it works perfectly. What I expected was to see the card in the Yast network configuration module, but it's not there. My efforts to manually bring up the card at boot time (with if-up) failed miserably because it seems to me that the network scripts aren't standard in OpenSUSE, and I got really confused about how they work. The script ifcfg-ra0 that I made (the network interface is ra0 with the RaLink module) is launched but it fails because the card is still down at boot time. The only way to bring it up is to do that manually with ifconfig. So The best solution here would be to make Yast see the card, or at least to bring up the card at boot time so that the network scripts don't fail when init calls them. Even if I didn't include all the logs the message is long. I'm sorry for that. If any detail is needed I'll promptly send it in reply to the list. Thanks a LOT to anyone wanting to help. [opensuse] new eclipse 3.2 or callisto packages

Hi, is it planned to update eclipse to v3.2 or to build the hole callisto project for openSUSE and/or SL10.2 or SLES10 ? I did also look into SLES10 RC3(4CDs) and SLED10 RC3(5CDs), but I found no Eclipse and only the older SUN Java v1.4.2 there. It seems, the free openSUSE is the best distribution for such things... I`m missing a development ADDON-CD for Code 10(SLES based products). -- B. [SLE] Moving /tmp

Hi, Very much a new Linux user, but some user experience with Unix 20-odd years ago. I'm finding I'm running out of space in / because /tmp is filling up doing some backups and zipping. I have more room on a different partition so I'd like to move /tmp there. Of course /tmp isn't "mounted" at the moment. I'm just confused. How do I mount /tmp onto /dev/hda6 (where /local is mounted already) and have the system see it as the right tmp directory for zipping and such things. [SLE] running thunderbird remotely over ssh -X

Occasionally I run thunderbird over ssh -X which of course works with no hassle. Except till today when I tried to open a PDF attachment from an email. Nothing happened remotely, but when I returned to my normal office a while later, I had acrobat running there showing the attachment. [opensuse] Automake 1.8 for OpenSuse 10.1?

I have not been able to find Automake 1.8 in the repository for 10.1. With Ubuntu, several flavors are kept for reasons that in development you may need to switch between versions for particular code that you are trying to build. Does anyone know of any 10.1 rpms for Automake 1.8? [SLE] SuSE 10.1 & Zen updater

Hello, I have just performed a clean install of SuSE 10.1 (downloaded DVD ISO), and I am unable to perform the updates. - I have added Yast Sources packman at iu-bremen and http://download.opensuse.org inst sources (normal and non-oss) and http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/suse/update/10.1 I also perofmed the online registration When I type under root : "YaST2 online_update", there is no available patchs. Zen Updater show several ones (including libzypp...) but it complains about a dependancy problem : Establishing cript:libzypp-patch-zmdrestart.sh-2-1533-1.noarch[20060703-05707] This would invalidate script:ibzypp-patch-zmdrestart.sh-2-1533-1.noarch[20060703-05707] Marking this resolution attempt as invalid. So I cannot go further I successfully updated a previous 10.1 installation (upgraded from 10.0, but I don't think it does matter in this case) several weeks ago using the Andreas Jaeger test package-management and normally afterwards. Is anybody has a clue about this. I am disapointed because since the release of the new zen stuff packages, it works well. I expected to be able to update a new clean install right away. [SLE] SuSE 10.0 user login

For some reason my SuSE 10.0 system will only let root login. I've added two users using Yast setup (default settings) and when I try and login either graphically or via a terminal it just returns me to the user login page.... Anybody any idea's? Phil
