[SLE] adding mp3 support for gstream / rhythmbox on SuSE 10.1

Hello. I bet I am not the first one confused by this. I already hang there one hour trying to figure out how to do this without any clue. SuSE 10.1 installs Totem without mp3 support, as always. I googled a lot and discovered a gstream plugin for mp3 (using on mad) should make both Totem and Rhythmbox accept MP3. A webpage told me the need package is gstreamer-plugins-extra-mad and mad Later is very easy to find on packman, gstreamer-plugins-extra-mad is damned difficult to find. I discovered gstreamer-plugins-extra-mad-0.8.11-3.i586.rpm which resulted dependency error: error: Failed dependencies: gstreamer = 0.8.11 is needed by gstreamer-plugins-extra-mad-0.8.11-3.i586 gstreamer-plugins = 0.8.11 is needed by gstreamer-plugins-extra-mad-0.8.11-3.i586 gstreamer-plugins-default = 0.8.11 is needed by gstreamer-plugins-extra-mad-0.8.11-3.i586 libgstreamer-0.8.so.1 is needed by gstreamer-plugins-extra-mad-0.8.11-3.i586 I cannot find gstreamer-plugins-extra-mad particularly for 10.1 on Google too. Actually I searched over hours to trying figure it out. Stragely there are two few people on the internet ask the same question when I google it. [SLE] Software Updater not working

At one time, the software updater would let me know when new updates were available. Now, I have to run YOU manually and check for them because the software updater never shows any updates when they are out there. I'm sure I didn't make any changes to the software updater to cause it to stop working, so it must have occurred during one of the upgrades I downloaded with it. I can't think of any other reason it would just stop working like that. When I look under Services under Configuration, there is nothing listed there. Maybe that's the problem. Do I need to add a service here to get it to start working again? I see you can add YUM, ZYPP, NU, RCE, Zenworks and a couple of other services. Would adding my YOU installation sources to one or more of these Services cause this thing to start working again? I'm working completely in the dark here. [SLE] cannot find config files for a lot of apps, I must be old now

Hello. I am a 5 year's linux user, my experience told me if some application looks insane because of wrong configuration, I can always restart by removing ~/.appname folder This used to work for several years for ~/.vim ~/.openoffice and ~/.xine then suddenly I feel dropped in the modern world, a lot of applications' configure file is misteriously missing, I don't know how to reset per-user setting at all. Examples: * f-spot, I asked f-spot list where is the configure file and get no response * banshee, there is no ~/.banshee * K3B, CDRW burning tool And there are many others tool. where have all the configure files been? Is there a new general way of keeping configurations? I must be old now. If there is a new general way of keeping configurations, perhaps my old way of backing up won't work. I used to back up "~/.*", restore it on the newly installed computer as "~/.Trash/.*", then think which application's configure file I need, do "mv ~/.Trash/.vimrc ~/". I would use it for a month, restore an app's configure file when I need, after one month all the files remaining in ~/.Trash are not userful anymore and I clean the trash. [SLE] looking for: time program ?

Hi all, A few years ago the SuSE disks had a small program on it that would tell another program a set date when the program asked the date. This little program was used to allow someone to kept useing time limited programs. This allowed you to keep using evaluation programs after the time limit. I cannot remember the name of the program! Can someone tell me the name? Thanks! [SLE] Suse 10.0 and Screen Saver

Hi! I am having a minor problem with the kde screen saver. After about 7 minutes the monitor will blank out even though I have the monitor power control turned off (contorl center --> peripherals ---> Display.....). I noticed that with this turned off, the kpowersave program is still running. I have tried turning power control on and setting to an hour or so before allowing it to blank the monitor off, but it still does it in about 7 minutes. This is a home system using an ABIT KT7A-RAID mother board with an ATI 9200 SE vidio card, and an A70F ViewSonic monitor (analog only). I have played with some of the bois settings, but it does not seem to make andy difference. The manual says that ACPI is always available on this mother board. How do I get the power control to either be turned off completely on the honor the settings (1hour lets say) that I set up in it?

[SLE] SOLVED - 10.1/nVidia Driver Nasty Bug

Hi, It was my post couple of days ago. It was really nVidia driver bug. Just released 7182 driver cures this problem. ---------------------------------- I have absolutely strange glitch on 10.1 (stock kernel from DVD, GeForce 5500) with nVidia driver 8762. Compilation and installation of nVidia kernel module went without any problem, commands like modprobe, switch2nviadia and glxinfo run successfully, but sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia (and x.org) cannot switch to any other resolution but 800x600/60 Hz. No matter what I have tried (recompile nVidia driver, restart PC, editing xorg.conf manually, etc). nVidia dummy driver can run on any other resolution which monitor supports, as well as 10.0 and the same nVidia 8762 driver. There is a new kernel at: ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/suse/opensuse/repositories/Kernel/SUSE_Linux_10.1/i586 but kernel rpm and kernel-source DO NOT match: kernel-default-2.6.16.18-1.1.i586 kernel-source-2.6.16.18-20.1.i586 Anyone have an idea how to solve this? [SLE] SuSE 10.1 and CUPS

Folks, I have an HP jetdirect j3265a print server with 3 ports. I have two printers connected (9100 and 9200). This used to work with SuSE 10.0 and still works with windoze. After the switch to 10.1 I can only get the first port (9100) to work. I cannot use my second printer. Has anyone experienced similar problems with 10.1? Hello, Tried using 'credentials' in fstab and received the following error; error 2 opening credential file. The file in question has root permissions. -rw------- 1 root root 49 Jun 30 09:47 admin Any clues on how to fix this?
