Yes indeed. Assumed you are running KDE: Rightclick on the desktop -> Create New -> Link to application On the application tab, write kinternet in the command field. [SLE] Conflicts after YaST2 update

SUSE 10.0, KDE 3.5.2, arts 1.4.2-5 After a security up date this past week I noticed two conflicts when I go into YaST2. These just started appearing. arts-devel 1.4.2-5 conflict arts-devel requires arts= 1.5.2 and kdelibs3-arts 3.4.2-24 conflict kdelibs3-arts requires arts 1.5.2- I have not done any update to arts so I assume one of the security updates did it. I did find the arts updates but the kdelibs3-arts is version 3.5.3. My kde is 3.5.2. Should I update all of kde to 3.5.3 first? [SLE] [Continued] Problem-Disappearing Icons & Menus in OpenOffice 2 & SuSE 10.1

Hi, I have strange problem - disappearing icons & menus in OpenOffice 2 & SuSE 10.1. Moving cursir overs make them visible, but then they becomes invisible again (with blank toolbar). I have upgraded to the latest OpenOffice 2.03, installed latest propritary nVidia driver, the problem still exists. Anyone know how to get rid of this glitch? [SLE] Suse 10.1 Suspend to ram, suspend to disk, Inspiron 8500

For anyone interested, I have suspend to ram and suspend to disk in kpowersave working on Dell Inspiron 8500 w/Nvidia Geforce4 Go video card. Here is what I did. Install Nvidia 8762 driver (8756 did not work) Change /etc/sysconfig/powersave/sleep file as follows DISABLE_USER_SUSPEND2RAM="" to DISABLE_USER_SUSPEND2RAM="no" SUSPEND2RAM_FORCE="" to SUSPEND2RAM_FORCE="yes" Added Option "NvAGP" "1" to /etc/X11/xorg.conf after the VendorName "NVidia" line. added # blacklist agp module blacklist intel_agp to /etc/modprobe.conf.local The modprobe.conf.local seemed to be the biggest help. The nvidia agp driver is still loaded, just not the intel one. Spent 4 hours trial and error and internet searches to find the answeer. Maybe this will save someone else the hassle. [SLE] Grub and mirrored root disk

Hi, This is SUSE 10.0, with patches. I have a mirrored /boot file system (soft-RAID 1, with md). I.e., /dev/md0 is mounted at /boot, and /dev/md0 is a mirror of /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1. The initial setup of the mirror and of GRUB was done during the SUSE installation. After a recent kernel update, my system hang at the GRUB message and could not be booted. (I know why I postpone kernel updates until I have time to cater for the aftermath... ;-) Well, that was rather easy; I repaired it from the rescue system by repeating the GRUB setup: grub> root (hd0,0) grub> setup (hd0) grub> quit That worked, the system now boots again. Now I'm wandering if that was sufficient, because GRUB is not reinstalled on the second disk. (When the first disk fails, it shall be able to boot from the second, of course.) I have two questions: 1) Do you know if a SUSE installation does something special when GRUB is used for mirrored disks? Does it install stage1 in both MBRs or only in one MBR? 2) Independently of my first question, are there recommendations how to handle the situation? Shall I do the GRUB-setup for hd1, like I did for hd0? [SLE] Samba problem with jpg files on a windows box

Hi folks I have a few shares setup on a XP box that has a lot of wall papers files stored on it. I have shared the directory and can view it under my smb folder but if I try to view a jpg file it is just blank. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. [SLE] Gnome duplicate menu entries

I am sure someone must have encountered this before. I have SUSE 10.1 running Gnome and I added KB3. I now have a new entry in the applications menu called "Applications" that has two entries for KB3. The menu editor does not seem to see this Applications entry so I cannot "un-check" it from the list. Does anyone have a workaround or suggestion for getting this fixed? Has anyone installed or used Alacarte on SUSE 10.1? I am not sure if this will make things worse or not. Is there any plan or requests to add Alacarte to the distribution in the future? I think it may be helpful. Thanks in advance to anyone who my be able to point me in the right direction...

[SLE] Online Update via Yast2 problems...

Hi there -- Running 10.1... So I can start an online update through Yast2... it shows packages available... I select them... And then when I click "Accept" the window just disappears. I can repeat this over and over. No error appears on the console. Same thing if I just run "YOU" from the command line. Any ideas? Also, can anyone explain to me the difference between the Online Update via Yast2/YOU and the iconified update manager (I think it's the ZMD-updater) in 10.1? I'm a bit confused about the update process in this new version. Thanks!
