YOU problem with delta file last two days

Hi - The last two days, I've had a problem with YOU not working correctly. It gets the update list (I've tried reloading all patches, no change) and then fails near the end of the update with the message: ERROR(You:Error parsing patch description.) Error parsing 'Deltas' attribute. Line ' xorg-x11-server-6.8.2-100_100.4.i586.delta.rpm 245406 3ad5216c49cc61665280daa091d520e8 xorg-x11-server-6.8.2-100 1126567701 3e051563544c6ffdf167c19a999566c4' doesn't have form 'filename size md5sum name-edition-release buildtime srcmd5sum seq'. Anybody else seeing this? Any ideas?

gcc compiler 4.1

In order to successfully compile a code I need the last version of the gcc compiler. I was suggested 4.1 I see that the verion I have is the following: mauede@linux:~> gcc --version gcc (GCC) 3.3.5 20050117 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux) Copyright (C) 2003 Free Software Foundation, Inc. Please, do you know if it is available to download for SuSE 9.3 from some web site ? Thank you very much, Maura

Moin, ich habe mich vorhin im Planungstreffen für den Linuxtag in Wiesbaden gemeldet, um etwas über den Einsatz von Linux in der Schule zu berichten. Hier ist nun eine kurze Zusammenfassung des Vortrages: === Schulen brauchen heute trotz knapper Kassen gute Arbeitsumgebungen. Mein Vortrag stellt ein kostengünstiges und wartungsarmes Konzept für die Ausstattung von Computer- und Klassenräumen vor. Die Administration muss einfach gehalten werden, weil sie von wechselnden Schülergenerationen und vielen Lehrern erledigt wird. Deshalb legte ich besonderes Gewicht auf die zentrale und einfache Installation der Rechner im Computerraum. Dies habe ich erreicht durch Clonen mit Hilfe des Programms udpcast[1]. Heutzutage ist der Internet-Zugriff auch in Klassen- und Aufenthaltsräumen sinnvoll. Da hier jedoch der Einsatz teurer Hardware nicht ohne Risiken ist, habe ich ein ThinClient-Konzept auf der Basis von LTSP[2] gewählt. Lehrer wollen Schülern an den Arbeitsplätzen weiterhelfen und sie überprüfen. Dafür habe ich mein eigenes Tool fmeye[3] geschrieben. In einer Diskussion kann ich auch noch über weitere Erfahrungen beim Einsatz von SUSE in Schulen berichten. how to get /dev to be a tmpfs and get populated at boot by udev?

Hi, I am trying to boot a suse client with nfsroot. The Suse client is diskless which is why I need it to boot from a server with nfsroot("/") readonly. Everything seems to be working fine except for udev. When the client boots it complains about /dev being read only. I need /dev to be entirely a tmpfs and to get populated at boot time by udev. I changed this line in /etc/init.d/boot.localfs: echo "Mounting local file systems..." mount -fv -t proc proc /proc mount -fv -t sysfs sysfs /sys mount -fv -t tmpfs tmpfs /dev ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ mount -fv -t tmpfs tmpfs /dev/shm rc_status but that did not work. I still get the message that /dev is read only here is the boot message: Mounting local file systems... proc on /proc type proc (rw) sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw) tmpfs on /dev type tmpfs (rw) devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,mode=0620,gid=5) done Starting udevd touch: cannot touch `/dev/devperms': Read-only file system Can anyone point me in the right direction or have any idea how to get /dev to be a tmpfs and get populated by udev at boot? T41 and Built in Modem

Humm. is noone out there using the built in modem on an IBM T41 laptop with Suse 10? Find errors

Hi List; each time I run find I get this message: find: WARNING: Hard link count is wrong for /proc: this may be a bug in your filesystem driver. Automatically turning on find's -noleaf option. Earlier results may have failed to include directories that should have been searched. Any thoughts, suggestions, etc?? Thanks... /Kevin

This specific Apache2 setup annoyance first appeared with 10.0. It is a simple problem, easily fixed 'in the field' and the solution has been described many times on SLE. (This is an excellent example of why it is good to research problems in the archives before creating a thread.) My guess is, if the problem is still occurring and you've just installed and fully updated 10.0, the fix probably exists upstream (for 10.1) but it wasn't deemed serious enough to warrant the production and dissemination of a YOU patch. And, for others in the future who may come across this thread: Did you edit /etc/apache2/mod_userdir.conf accordingly? Did this fix your problem? regards, Carl

OpenSuse 10.0 / haldaemon problem??

Hi, I hope I have the correct forum, and apologize in advance if I don't !!! I have installed OpenSuse 10.0 (64bit) and although everything I configured is working correctly - the logs themselves would indicate that there is a possible problem with the haldaemon. When I connect an external HDD via an external USB-2 HHD, it recognizes the drive as sda and I'm able to mount it and use it normally without any problem except as follows: When I check the logs (/varlog/messages), I notice that it fills the log file very quickly (100mb ++ - so I have to clear it regularly and quickly) with the following messages from the hal-daemon: Apr 11 15:58:21 rentsch-asia kernel: usb-storage: queuecommand called Apr 11 15:58:21 rentsch-asia kernel: usb-storage: *** thread awakened.
