In order to successfully compile a code I need the last version of the gcc compiler. I was suggested 4.1 I see that the verion I have is the following: mauede@linux:~> gcc --version gcc (GCC) 3.3.5 20050117 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux) Copyright (C) 2003 Free Software Foundation, Inc. Please, do you know if it is available to download for SuSE 9.3 from some web site ? Thank you very much, Maura
Hello, You can get rpms for gcc-4.1 here http://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-gbv/rpms/SuSE_9.3 This will add an additional compiler to your system. NOTE that you will need to add de suffix '_41' to the binaries. So, to use it you need to call 'gcc_41' instead of 'gcc' or 'gfortran_41' instead of 'gfortran' .... May be on Thu 13 there will be newest packages (with the latest updates from Opensuse factory). Just now I'm building them :) Guillermo El Martes, 11 de Abril de 2006 22:51, Maura Edeweiss Monville escribió:

There was a misunderstanding. I apologize for the confusion. I'v ejust downloaded the pakages you mentioned and realized they all bear the suffix "41" so they will not overwrite the old 3.5 version equivalent files. I was concerned about the gcc files not the binaries created by using gcc. Now it's clear. Thanks, Maura On Wed, 12 Apr 2006, Guillermo Ballester Valor wrote:

I think your confused. You just install the new RPMs, they will automatically install as gcc_4.1, etc. The thing you have to do is make sure you run gcc_4.1 when you want to compile. Since most compiles are invoked by "./configure; make" type of stuff you may have some issues doing that. Once you get 4.1 installed post again with whatever actual compile issues you have.
