I had installed 10.1 RC2 from scratch. Then yesterday I updated to RC3,
using the DVD made from the five CDs. At the start of the package
installation (dvd phase), I got this message in a pop up message box:
(X) Validation Check Failed
File content
is signed with the following GnuPG key, but the integrity check failed:
ID: A84EDAE89C800ACA
Fingerprint: 79C1 79B2 E1C8 20C1 890F 9994 A84E DAE8 9C80 0ACA
Name: SuSE package Signing Key <build(a)suse.de>
This means that the file has been changed by accident or by an attacker
since the repository creator signed it. Using it is a big risk
for the integrity ans security of your system.
Use it anyway?
I clicked "yes", but I don't know which exact rpm is the wrong one.
Looking now at the yast logs (which I saved), I find messages related to
the incident:

the messages repeats several times. In fact, I got the the pop message box
at least twice during the phase running from the CD, and 3 or 4 times more
later when it booted and continued the install from the HD.
At the online update phase of the install, I got another error; this one I
could not copy to a png file, beacue print screen key did not work on this
phase, so I had to copy by hand:
Dependency conflict

(out of screen, couldn't see the rest)
there are no providers of zmd==7.0.1.0-12 for patch zypp
I selected "ignore" and it continued; but next time I looked back it was
asking the same thing, with two identical conflicts. I ignored again. This
time I watched the screen and I noticed that it said that yast has been
updated and needed to be restarted, so it did and looped back to the
online update, this time with a conflict of three identical packages! So
this time I canceled and continued the install.
I keep full logs of the incidents.

Greetings,
I have several DV tapes, both mine and borrowed from relatives. Many
are only partly full, or I only want to save part of their content. I
would like to "consolidate" all the video in the original DV format as
is on tape on the smallest possible number of tapes.
In that way I would have all the "source" and could start editing them
in a second moment, always keeping the master DV video available.
I have a JVC camcorder which works with SUSE 10 (I've already loaded
movies in kino from it) via IEEE1394.
What I want to do is:
1) copy all the raw video, without any transcoding, from camcorder to
hard disk
2) when disk is full, copy all raw video from disk to empty tape in
the camcorder
repeat 1-2 until I've copied all the tapes.
Is it possible to do this from suse? The ideal solution would be
something semiautomatic, which stops saving to disk when there is no
more video in the tape in the camcorder, but any solution is OK.
TIA,
Marco

SuSE 10.1 is not released product at this time. SuSE 10.1 just went to Release Candidate 3 this weekend; if it is available in the retail channels by end of the May I will be surprised. Pre-Order! Oh yeh, right. As a member of the Novell Community, I pre-ordered SuSE 10.0 Retail from Novell directly late last year and had to wait over a month for delivery and Novell wouldn't even tell me when I might get it! It finally showed up on my doorstep in early December as I recall. However, I will endorse Amazon as being a good place to pre-order it as long as you are willing to wait and save some money, a little.

Hi there!
New to this list let me say "Hello" to everybody and bring forward my problem.
To figure out if it is a bug or my fault here is what I have recognized:
When starting the module answering_machine of Yast2 in console, I get the
following error twice a time:
Can't exec "ypcat": Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden (<--means "file or
directory could not be found) at
/usr/lib/YaST2/servers_non_y2/ag_nis line 83, <STDIN> line 1 (#1)
(W exec) A system(), exec(), or piped open call could not execute the
named program for the indicated reason. Typical reasons include: the
permissions were wrong on the file, the file wasn't found in
$ENV{PATH}, the executable in question was compiled for another
architecture, or the #! line in a script points to an interpreter that
can't be run for similar reasons. (Or maybe your system doesn't support
#! at all.)
I am using SuSE 10.0.
So is there something I have done wrong or is it bug I could report?

I've tried starting several desktops (some remote) and noticed something
curious. The desktops start on vt7, then vt8 & vt9. But then for some
reason, vt10 is skipped and the next desktop appears on vt11. When I
switch to vt10, it appears as though it's being used for some status or
error messages. Why is it here, instead of perhaps on vt6?
tnx jk
Hi all,
I hope that this is the right list for my purpose, if it?s not, it
would be very kind if you could give me a hint which list my topic
could belong to.
System:
Notebook: Samsung X20 XVM 1730 V
max. screen resolution 1400 x 1050
graphic ?card?: intel 915 chipset
Operating Systems:
Suse Linux 10.0 Professional
Windows XP Home
Problem description:
Not possible to run 1400 x 1050 resolution using Suse Linux (but
working very well in WinXP). Maximum possible resolution using Suse
10.0: 1280 x 1024
Most likely method of resolution:
A tool called 915Resolution to perform an Intel Video BIOS Hack. A
HOWTO can be found at http://www.geocities.com/stomljen/ for Samsung
X20 it can be found here http://www.nothingisreal.com/samsung_x20 (very
similar laptop to mine, but not exactly the same).
Up to now attempts:
I already downloaded and installed the 915resolution tool and pasted
the line ?915resolution 5c 1400 1050? to /etc/init.d/boot.local (as the
second link suggests for automated calling the tool on startup).
Till this point everything seems to be okay because after rebooting and
testing the automation of setting the configuration parameters in line
5c (of 915resolution) via typing ?915resolution ?l? it returns 1400 x
1050 which is right for my display. The xorg.conf in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
was also already modified like described in the second link by myself.
Problem:
The problem I?m facing at the moment is that whether I got something
wrong with my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file changes or I missed something in
the whole HOWTO because if I follow the instructions ?resolution ?l?
outputs 1400 x 1050 but the actual resolution of the screen it still
1280 x 1024. If I try to change something in the xorg.conf file then
sometimes the Xserver cannot be started up at all or it starts up with
the 1280 x 1024 resolution.
Question:
Does someone have a detailed HOWTO for E X A C T L Y my laptop series
(Samsung X20 XVM 1730 V)? Or did someone already solve the problem on a
Samsung X20 and could send me his xorg.conf file ? not matter which
Samsung X20 it is exactly that the file comes from as long as it runs
with the same intel chipset I think. I would for sure try all files I?d
receive as well as any other suggestions to solve the problem, because
I am really sick of this 1280 x 1024 resolution compared to the one I
achieve in WinXP at the moment?
You?d really help me a lot!!
Thanks to all who read this long mail and sorry for any circumstances.
With best regards
Thomas
Hi everyone,
I'm new to the list. I installed SuSE 10.0 about a week ago. First of all I
just want to say how much I like this distro so far. I've mostly used
Slackware and Caldera in the past. It's been about 2 years since I've done
an install and I'm really impressed with how far things have come along.
YsSt is a nice config tool. Made it really easy to get networking, sound,
and even printing set up (my Alps printer has always been a problem for
Linux in the past, no trouble at all now).
I do have one strange trouble though, which I have not been able to figure
out. This machine is dual boot. I have 3 hard drives. One IDE drive is
Windows 2k, formatted NTFS. One IDE drive is Linux. One USB drive is NTFS,
and has music files and such on it. In windows the permissions for both NTFS
file systems are set to EVERYONE:Full Control.
I mount the two NTFS drives with similar fstab entries:
/dev/hda1 /windows/C ntfs
ro,users,gid=users,umask=0002,nls=utf8 0 0
/dev/sda1 /windows/D ntfs
ro,users,gid=users,umask=0002,nls=utf8 0 0
For some reason the IDE drive is accessible from my user account, but the
USB drive is only accessible from the root account. It seems to me they
should mount with the same permissions and ownership, but instead I see
this:
dr-xr-xr-x 1 root users 8192 2006-04-29 22:07 C
dr-x------ 1 root root 12288 2006-04-29 22:07 D
The strange thing is if I unmount /windows/D the permissions return to what
I'd expect:
dr-xr-xr-x 2 root users 48 2006-04-25 23:23 D
When I re-mount the file system it returns to:
dr-x------ 1 root root 12288 2006-04-29 22:07 D
Notice that both permissions and group change?
I can access the drive as root, so I know the file system is actually
mounting, just with the wrong permissions.
I'm out of ideas as to how to fix this. Any thoughts what's going on here?
Thanks,

Hello all:
Is there a way to display file names absolutely in alphabetical
order in krusader or konqueror so that files and folders would
not be separated in two different groups?
I looked in the setups but could not find such an option.
Thanks,
IG

I just wonder what will happen when people cannot afford to go to
work? We always think of the doctors and nurses, teachers etc as
essential workers. But what about the lower paid shop assistants? If
they can't afford to get to work then how does everybody else buy
essential goods like food? This is a worldwide phenomenon.
