Ksynaptics is offered in the normal Suse installation. Just open Yast2/Software/Software Management and search for it. The fact that this is a KDE app shouldn't matter. At least in KDE, which I use, I can install any Gnome app from the DVD and they run in KDE just fine. I assume/hope Ksynaptics will create an entry in the Gnome menu for you to use. Carlos FL Hmm, strangely, this doesn't happen for me. I searched for synaptics, and found the X11-input-synaptics package, but nothing else. Hmm, I guess maybe that just means I didn't install it? I thought that Yast's software management knew about the stuff that was still on the install disks though. Perhaps not, I'll see if I can kick it a little harder that way. Konica/Minolta 2430DL Network Printer solution for X86_64 systems

Hello List! I recently installed OpenSuSE 10.1 X86_64 on a new Athlon 64 based system, when all was said and done the system would not print. Any print job sent to network printer went to never land and the only message in the error log of cups was the pid ended with status 22. Johannes pointed out that the failed pid was /usr/lib64/cups/filter/rastortokm2430dl. I purchased this printer for two reasons, first I read that they had a linux rpm on their installation cdrom that was designed for cups (to me that said K/M is at least trying to support linux) and second was the price. Athlon 64 not so fast?

Hello list! I just installed opensuse 10.1 X86_64 on my new Athlon 64 base system, 160GB sata II 3GB drive and I am not seeing what I perceive as a speed demon. On my Athlon XP 1800 with 10.1 and all updates applied when (for example) I click on the terminal icon in kde it takes roughly ~3 sec. to open and have a terminal I can type in. On this new system it takes about the same amount of time, this is one of those places that I thought I would see a noticeable time difference as in I would click the icon and would have seemingly instaneous opening of the terminal. I notice the same thing with other apps which I would have thought would be extremely faster but I am not seeing the performance difference I expected. Still 4 to 5 seconds to open the gimp, 7 to 8 seconds to open openoffice writer. I have loaded all of the optimized defaults in the bios and 512Mb of pc3200 ram. Maybe I am was just deluding myself and built myself up for an extremely fast machine, one that would pale my athlon xp machines by comparison. Is there something that I should have/could have done during the installation that is affecting the performance? Did I miss something? Request: rebuild of Suse 10.1 ISO after revision of online update

Andreas, I don't know if I should place this request here or somewhere else, but after purchasing a boxed Suse 10.1 and still fighting with update servers not responding and Online Update not working properly, I am eagerly anticipating the "new yast2-online-update with an enhanced callback handling" (https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=194424#c21). I have a whole batch of machines to install in my university group and I am dreading it, because of the painfull process of initial installation and patch. What I would love to have is a new ISO for 10.1 with all patches applied up to a certain date, especially including libzypp, zmd and YOU patches. I typically buy the Suse release from April/May and test it over the summer before my students and research group (now also colleagues) will install it in their machines. I write a small step-by-step instruction, so all machines have the same settings. But I have been holding off this year, because the patching part of the process has been non-reproducible to say the least. Assuming the revised versions of the patch tools work well, it will still be a chore to start the installation of 10.1 from the original DVD and to bring it up to a stable and patched state that will take us with relatively little trouble through the academic year, as I have been doing in the past. I don't want to start experimenting with 10.2, even if it ends up with a better update process, because I won't have time for it during classes. So, I wish I could download a new 10.1 ISO with applied patches that will make the installation process smooth as it was in other versions. Actually, I would be ready to pay for it. Do you think this is possible, Andreas? [opensuse] RUG Catalog Priorities

Hi everybody I just made a small check: I installed a minimal SuSE Linux 10.1 (using FTP), downloaded some packages from the FTP Server to a local CacheDir (for building packages using 'build') Then I added that directory to RUG with rug sa -t mount /usr/src/build_rpms rug also subscribed that channel. I have some packages in there already which I used to compile PenguPop ( a multi player Puzzle Bobble, can BTW also already be found in the home:dimstar repository!). SDL for example exists there, but is not yet installed on my base installation. When I now go to the freshly built PenguPop RPMs and type rug in pengupop-2.1.9-1.1.i586.rpm rug correctly determines the dependencies and wants to install SDL. BUT: unfortunately, it tries to pull it down from the FTP Server again, which is a waste of time and resources. SO: long story short request (ENH) I think it would be nice to be able to prioritize the Catalogs (rug sp local 1) and giving them a service priority. Lowest number wins. Of course, still version numbers having the highest priority, but when finding the same package on different locations, it would be nice to have the power as the user to decide / influence where from they are coming. Or has this already been done in later version? I have rug-7.1.1.0-18 on that workstation Thank you for a short reply and some of your thoughts! Dominique

"Error in service module."

For awhile I haven't been able to boot via init 3 into console mode, nor to a login while in KDE. I get a "Error in service module" when I attempt to login with either my user account or root. Can I have 2 gpg keys?

Hi all, I have 2 email addresses, that is fajarpri(a)arinet.org as my main address and fajarpri(a)cbn.net.id as secondary one. I have created a gpg key for the main address. Then I also want a key for the secondary. Is it possible? Will the creation process overwrite my gpg key? Or should I just use the current key for both addresses? CUPS problem on new installation

Hello! I have a printer problem, I just finished the updates to a new installation of opensuse 10.1 X86_64 from the remastered dvd and I cannot print to my networked laser printer. I have opensuse 10.1 I386 installed on 4 other machines and all have had the printer configured through localhost:631 and all function well. Hello, I'm in the midst of trying to convert a LaTeX document to MSWord. I cannot find a recent rpm adding htlatex and/or tex4ht to the tetex system contained in SuSE 10.1 or OpenSuSE 10.1. Has this been done by anyone?
