ne.o failing in SuSE 6.3 machines

This week I had reason to fire up a few old 486's that were running SuSE 6.3. Both failed loading ne.o. Using /lib/modules/2.2.13/net/ne.o /lib/modules/2.2.13/net/ne.o: unresolved symbol ei_open /lib/modules/2.2.13/net/ne.o: unresolved symbol ethdev_init /lib/modules/2.2.13/net/ne.o: unresolved symbol ei_interrupt /lib/modules/2.2.13/net/ne.o: unresolved symbol NS8390_init /lib/modules/2.2.13/net/ne.o: unresolved symbol ei_close I found an post from 1999 to this list but there was no reply. modprobe ne gives me init_module: Device or resource busy Looking at the logs both machine booted fine when they were put away. 9.2 printers Q

Hopefully 9.2 will show up on my doorstep in a few days. If I have two printers installed, will it find both of them? (They will both be on LPT ports.) If it will not, I will disconnect the color printer aned leave the Laserjet. The color printer is manually shared at present with another old computer, and is not always connected to this one that I will put 9.2 on. --doug

Using swap with 9.2 LiveDVD

Hi I've d/loaded the LiveDVD for 9.2, but none of the machines available have the 300+MB necessary to run it. Does anyone know if / how I could get it to use the swap partition on the box I want to boot it on? I've looked at the readme in its directory on the ftp server, and at the contents of the disk itself and found nothing relevant. SuSE 9.2 DVD final worked!

Hey Group: As a long time SuSE user I have never gotten the DVD to work. It has always failed stating that it could not find the source file lists. Well they have either fixed it or I beat it. Try it if yours has fails. This required 2 drives one CD and one DVD. (mine is setup - Secondary Master is a CD and Secondary Slave is a DVD) 1. Bootup on the DVD and do a "Manual Installation". Answer all questions. 2. Insert the CD#1 in your CD drive and from the Start Installation" menu select "Verify". Here seems to be the key. Note that verify checks the CD and not the DVD. Why? It seems that by default "DEVICE=" your CD and not the DVD. If you cause it to error out the error message shows which devices to check. 3. When the Verify process finishes - hit "Eject" and remove the CD#1 4. Hit OK and off goes the DVD. This test was run on 3 machines and did work. Change OpenOffice Printer Type

How do I change the default Printer Setup Type from CUPS to the LPR/LPRng Print System in OpenOffice. I can't seem to find anyplace where I can accomplish this action. When the operating system loads, two states may occur: 1- (As in DOS/Win9x) the OS accepts bios parameters without change. In this state, the correct detection of a hard-drive inside the OS depends on system bios. However, some chipset manufacturers provide chipset-specific drivers which can be installed to make the OS work like the second state. Usually, installing such drivers are not recommended due to some drawbacks. 2- (As in WinXP/Linux) the OS overrides bios parameters with its own driver. The whole thing you now need, is that your computer's bios be able to detect your hard-drive even incorrect. As for the second state, I think you shouldn't have problem with linux (and you can use it all), unless one of these two cases occur: 1- Your hard-disk cannot be detected by bios at all. 2- Your boot-record position is out of the range detected by bios.
