Change OpenOffice Printer Type

How do I change the default Printer Setup Type from CUPS to the LPR/LPRng Print System in OpenOffice. I can't seem to find anyplace where I can accomplish this action. When the operating system loads, two states may occur: 1- (As in DOS/Win9x) the OS accepts bios parameters without change. In this state, the correct detection of a hard-drive inside the OS depends on system bios. However, some chipset manufacturers provide chipset-specific drivers which can be installed to make the OS work like the second state. Usually, installing such drivers are not recommended due to some drawbacks. 2- (As in WinXP/Linux) the OS overrides bios parameters with its own driver. The whole thing you now need, is that your computer's bios be able to detect your hard-drive even incorrect. As for the second state, I think you shouldn't have problem with linux (and you can use it all), unless one of these two cases occur: 1- Your hard-disk cannot be detected by bios at all. 2- Your boot-record position is out of the range detected by bios. Who Import Only from Communicator IV?

I am trying to import mail from my Suse 9.1 install w/Mozilla Mail into my new install of Suse 9.2 also with Mozilla Mail (1.7.2). When I run Import the only option it provides is Communicator IV, which seems a very odd limitation. I'd like to Import from the prior folders from Mozilla Mail, not a M$ product. I want to avoid copying over the actual folders because in the past it seemed to trigger a bunch of instabilities (going from Mozilla Mail under 9.0 to 9.1). -- Thanks! & 73, doc kd4e West Central Florida 100% Linux. [SLE] Installation problem #2 -- 9.1 Pro -- portmapper

Has anyone installed 9.1 Pro and had portmap start (or seem to start and then quit)? I cannot find portmap when I do "ps -A | grep portmap". When I try to "mount gateway:/HDD2 /SomeDir" from another Linux machine I get the error: RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: Unable to receive. When I examine /var/log/messages after doing "insserv /etc/init.d/portmap" I do not see any evidence that it ran or failed. However, when I re-run inetd it immediately displays an error, some kind of failure in communicating. All this makes me think that something has not been configured associated in some way with the operation or enabling of portmap. When I cause it to produce a status or retry it always declares success yet it must immediately fail because it does not show up on "ps -A" as it does on the other Linux machines. Could the firewall inhibit the operation of portmap? Should I be getting SuSe support to look at this problem? Thanks-TED

Firefox segfaults on hotmail!

Hi all! By some obscure reason "Firefox v 1.0 preview release" (0.10) segfaults on www.hotmail.com I cant log in. The loginpage doesn't even load before it dies. Contents of 9.2 Live dvd?

How much of 9.2 is available on the Live DVD? The website says:- "Want a hassle-free way to try Linux? Download SUSE LINUX Professional 9.2 Live DVD. It runs completely from your DVD drive. No need to install anything." What's New includes:- Digital video recorder vdr, technology of tomorrow for the upcoming digital TV I downloaded and burnt the Live iso and it booted fine, but I couldn't find anything that related to vdr in the menus. Perhaps I've overlooked it. Can anyone tell me if it's there? Also, my PVR card wasn't auto-detected, but it is detected by the hardware detection, and also listed if you go into the TV manual configuration section, but it wasn't obvious how to set it up - all attempts ending with a "no package source defined" error. - Richard. -- Richard Kimber http://www.psr.keele.ac.uk/

One 9.2 Complaint

It's actually not a complaint against Linux. It's a complaint about nautilus running under Gnome 2.6. There used to be a config option to let nautilus know whether you preferred to open files in a new window or in the same window. That option is gone as well as the navigation arrows at the top of the window. (Up, Back, etc). Fortunately, filebrowser still works the way I like but I would prefer a global config. Does anyone know what happened to nautilus? As far as I can tell, the new version is a giant step backwards. -- Donald D.
