This was the problem where k3b only saw your CD devices as readers, not burners, right? What does /etc/grub/menu.lst look like? What does /etc/resmgr.conf look like? What version of k3b are you using and where did you get it?

Also, what does "/sbin/resmgr list" say, if you run it in a shell as your regular user

Is this the one you boot? Is your recorder really hdb, the slave on the first IDE cable? What's the output from "cdrecord -scanbus"
Can you spot anything in here?
Not off hand, everything looks correct

Yes, it's an ide DVD player / CDwriter and it's worked before in read and write mode... I also have a scsi CDwriter.

OK, so cdrecord sees both, so your system must be configured correctly. All I can think of to ask now is what in K3B makes you think it isn't working? What do you do in k3b to conclude that it can't see your drives?

When trying to burn a cd I get this: quote K3b did not find a suitable writer. You will only be able to create an image. unquote Phil

Hmmm What version of k3b is that? Which kernel version? In k3b's settings, in the programs, which cdrecord is it set to use? Could it be that you have two installed? Perhaps try "chmod 666 /dev/sg*" Rapidly running out of ideas, since your system looks perfectly configured Anders

Rapidly running out of ideas, since your system looks perfectly configured Anders K3b is version 0.11.15cvs (Using KDE 3.3.1), it is configured to use cdrecord 2.1a18-dvd I've checked for double install of cdrecord (I only use apt-get to upgrade) but rpm -qa | grep cdr only shows one cdrecord.
It's very frustrating.... Phil

OK, you might want to upgrade to 0.11.17, available on http://packman.links2linux.de/index.php4?action=219&vn=3
It's very frustrating....
Not to mention very confusing
