RPC portmap error

Hello list I am trying to configure a NFS server and I always get the same error messages : Oct 31 14:16:09 atelier kernel: portmap: server localhost not responding timed out Then Oct 31 14:16:09 atelier kernel: RPC: failed to contact portmap (errno -5). Oct 31 14:17:59 atelier kernel: portmap: server localhost not responding, timed out .... five times, then : Oct 31 14:25:19 atelier kernel: RPC: failed to contact portmap (errno -5). Oct 31 14:25:19 atelier nfsd[4165]: nfssvc: Input/output error Oct 31 14:25:19 atelier rpc.mountd: unable to register (mountd, 1, udp). Is there anything wrong with the kernel ? I am using what I found on the SuSE 9.1 CD : kernel 2.6.4-52 I desinstalled and reinstalled portmap several times without success The portmap version is 5 beta 728 At boot I have this message : Starting RPC portmap daemonportmap: fork: Successfailed Which is of obscure meaning to me I tried some patches and updates with YOU but without any effect. [9.1] Strange GTK warning.

Hi all! I keep getting the following error/warning as i start different programs. The enclosed is when starting gimp: (gimp-2.0:20063): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "qtpixmap", It is repeated several times, as i start the app. But it runs, and as far as i can see, without any problems.. No Sound with 9.2

Hello. I have a Soundblaster Audigy 2 and just installed 9.2 Pro. I never had a problem with 9.0 or 9.1 and now my sound doesn't work. Volume is turned up in kmix and through the sound module in Yast. Whenever I open Amarok it plays with no sound. Xmms will open too but still no sound. Apt install problem

I'm trying to install apt that comes from the usr-local-bin site. I've downloaded all the rpm's that the site says I need but I am still having trouble installing apt and a couple of other programs. My main problem is that I am missing the libpopt.so.0 library. I have already installed the popt library from Yast. Any suggestions? advansys scsi driver in 9.2

Colour-coded config files

This is probably a REALLY stupid question (that's not an invitation to kick-off...) but on my RH9 box etc conf files are colour-coded when I edit in vi but not on my SUSE 9.1 box - what am I missing? Henry Standing

Sharing Neat & Easy Mplayer Install Hint

Many list members may have already seen this but for the 9.1 and 9.2 newbies this hint I stumbled across earlier this evening really takes the pain out of the Mplayer setup! It came from this site and was written by Pcghost http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=202518&p… I have added notes where I think they may be helpful. (Note 1: I observed in 9.2 that the labels are slightly different than in the instructions but it is still obvious which you should choose.) (Note 2: Unless you run this in Root/Admin you will be prompted for the Root/Admin password at one step, I forget precisely where.) Open the control center. Click YaST modules Click Software Click Change Installation Source Click Add Select http Put packman.iu-bremen.de in the site field Put suse/9.1 in the path field (Note 3: Substitute 9.2 as appropriate) (Note 4: Be sure not to add the "http://" because that is done automatically, also, do not add any "/" other than the one specified or you will get doubles.) Click OK (Note 5: I think this is "Finish" rather than "OK".) Now simply click on Install and Remove Software and the entire packman library is now listed. Doing this turns an Mplayer installation into a 10 second affair. Additionally, packman has binaries for just about everything else you could possibly want. (Note 6: In my 9.2 setup I had to run "Mplayer" manually from Run Command, then it was recognized.) SETTING MPLAYER AS DEFAULT: If you want Mplayer to be the default for .mov and other video files you will need to change the setting, otherwise Kaffine will run and fail. Control Center KDE Video Click on the video file type, then go to the right and click Move Up to make Mplayer the first choice. Weird RealPlayer Problem

I use SuSE 9.1 Kernel 2.6.8 with realplayer 10.0.1 (the .bin file). when I start it up, nothing appears to happen. The process is still running, but LITERALLY an hour-and-a-half later is when the GUI finally appears. What in the World could be causing this? -Steven

Major 9.2 Install Problem

My logon screen still says it's version 9.1. ;-) (It really does say that. I assume it will be fixed at some point.) Seriously, aside from some broken applications that probably should have been discarded long ago, this upgrade from 9.1 to 9.2 went pretty well. I still wouldn't want to hand off the install to a casual user, though. In general, good job, guys. -- Donald D.
