Mounting Samba shares via /etc/fstab for users

I'm trying to setup a line in /etc/fstab so I can access samba shares easily. However, it seems like I need to setuid root the smb* apps. However, 8.2 keeps complaining that libsmb based programs cannot be setuid root and then won't run. How can I get around this problem? I don't want to login as root each time I want to mount/unmount samba share. Greg

Request for assistance with PureFTP

This is to request configuration assistance with the PureFTPd which was packaged on the version 9.1 Pro CDs. I have a small home network and woukld like to FTP files directly into the 'root' or 'home' directory of the Apache server to allow me testing of php/sql web pages. After installation of the pureftpd rpm I was able to (ftp) log into the linux machine but was unable to change directory even though I disabled chroot in the configuration file. I have perused the documentation and understood that it is quite a flexible program. This begs the question as to the compilation of the 'out of the box' program. There are many switches, but which ones are set. I was unable to determine this. In any case, I just want to be able to move files from one machine to another and particularly into the web server directories. I would appreciate your kind asssistance. Heri Riesbeck

Can anyone recommend a good (free) video editor for SuSE 9.1 that will edit .wmv files. I often get video files via email that have small snippets that are inappropriate for family viewing but the rest is really good. Thanks, Darrell C.

KDE Print Manager Thingy - Missing?

KDE 3.3.1 In the past, I remember seeing a Printer control in the Control Panel under the Peripherals area. My install doesn't have this any more. Is it part of some other package I no longer have installed, or did it move in 3.3.1? Please enlighten me :)

IRQ10 problem never seen in 9.0

Since FTPing into 9.1 I am suddenly seeing kernel messages like the following that never appeared in the several months I used 9.0 Pro: Oct 28 13:52:42 linux kernel: serial8250: too much work for irq10 Oct 28 13:52:43 linux last message repeated 327 times Oct 28 13:53:31 linux last message repeated 117 times I read (on this list, I think) that kernel 2.6.x handled IRQs better than 2.4.x. Seems this is not necessarily true --wherever I read it. The logs don't indicate where the problem lies, either, so I can only make a wild guess unless someone else has the answer.
