Dual boot, and reformatting existing partitions from FAT32 to NTFS

I am dual booting. I have 2 HDs (hda and hdc) with 1 partition on hda formatted as NTFS with the rest (except for Linux) as FAT32, On hdc I have a Reiserfs partition (data1) with the rest as FAT32. I now want to reformat at least 3 partions (say 2 on hda and 1 on hdc) as NTFS. If I altered fstab to reflect the partitions I want to reformat as NTFS file system BEFORE I exited Suse and then formatted them as NTFS would I have a problem in having them correctly recognised when I booted back into Suse? Or would I need to do a pretend run of the partitioner after booting into Suse and read-in the partition table in case the beginning/ending sectors are altered by the reformatting? apache and dns

dear all, i have setup dns server and apache (suse 8.2). dns is working fine. i create an index.html file for my apache. and it's working fine too for local computer. when accessed from outside (by typing www.domainname.com), it wouldn't open my index.html file, but it always open index.html.en (default index file). if i trying open by typing computername.domainname.com, it can open my index.html file. i check the dns, and everything is working fine. what caused m problem and how to solved this ? rgds, suse82

I have a generic question: I executed the 'lspci -v' command and received the following output. Hylafax and Dialing In

Dear all, I have a computer setup with SuSE 8.1 and I have also setup Hylafax. The machine operates as a fax server for a long time now. I was wondering if it is possible to create a dialin service on the same modem as well? Currently Hylafax is using the only modem installed on the system. Can this be done? I have never done something like this so any help would be a big plus!!!! Thank you all! Chris

Blank vncViewer Window when vncServer is run at boot time with inetd

dear friends, I am Using Suse 8.2 & Real VNC 4 vnc-4.0-0b4.i386.rpm As per guide line given by Mr. Jerry Westrick at http://faq.gotomyvnc.com/cgi-bin/jerry@westrick.com and additional reference "Setting up VNC on Linux" By Jeff Vincent I tried following. When I try to connect from a Win XP machine using Viewer I get a Blank Window with "X11" in the caption. The windows has a X shaped cursor which I am able to move mouse. I am not able to get Login prompt or normal GUI login window. with vncviewer I tried 192.168.10.1:50/51/52/60/61/62 with all same result. Please Note that if I undo all the changes and get back GUI at Console logged in as a user, run vncserver at shell prompt and try to connect from same xp machine I am able to get kde desktop in vncviewer of-course I have modified .vnc/xstartup file and added "startkde &" at end. This setting is common in both setups. in later case also I am not able to get login prompt but I feel its normal. Can Somebody help me in this Regard. Thanks. Best Regards R. S. I am getting more strange output from the kernel when trying to connect. The linmodem *is* connecting but not getting much farther than that, unfortunately. install problem

I have successfully installed Mozilla 1.6 via rpm and am trying to upgrade to Galeon 1.3.12 to go with it. Since I couldn't find rpms for the Galeon I decided to make it from source. I finally got a successful make after tracking down some missing packages and installing them. Hi! I run jdsl to keep my ADSL line up, and noip to refresh my dynamic IP for public DNS. (In fact you can get there from boot.) Whatever, log in as root (by giving the root passwoard) Then do "init 3" (login again if necessary, as root) Then do: "SuSEconfig --verbose" Then do: "ldconfig -v" do: "sync" Then for the fun of it do again: "SuSEconfig" (It should run real fast the second time.) Now do: "init 5" (Don't forget to comback and close the virtual term, Ctrl-Alt-F1, with a enter, then with a "ctrl + d" enter) Or if he didn't --- I would suggest it. By going to run level 3 (init 3), you are under "KDE" and "Gnone". and running the "boot scripts" What I am sugesting is a "belt and suspenders" approach, and some may LOL for doing "SuSEcong twice". but it's like whisling as you walk past a graveyard, it can't hurt. and it has the advantage tht is usually works for me, even when I got myself in "deep trouble." bad sectors on hard drive (suse 9.0)

Hi, I have experienced serius troubles with my hard disk. I have found three bad blocks on reiserfs partition (/ - hdc2) and three more on swap partition (hdc1). I found out this with "badblocks". swap ("badblocks -o file /dev/hdc1"): 369460 369461 369462 reiser ("badblocks -o file /dev/hdc2"; when run with -b 4096, it gives no results!?!): 6867784 6867785 6867786 How can I "repair" these badblocks. When my HD hit those bad blocks it started to make scrapping noise and the system totally freezed (no keyboard, mouse, no CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE!) so I had to power off my computer (till now twice) and then do suse cd1 rescue (fsck --rebuild-tree) to establish normal state. I would be very very grateful if someone could help me. I have SuSE 9.0. Ales
