Setting up an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro to use 3D acceleration

I am using Suse Linux 9.0 pro and I have an ATI Radeon 9000 pro video card. I am having trouble setting up the card to use 3D. I have the lastest drivers from ATI, but it keeps telling the card does not support 3D. This is not true, because it sure supported 3D in that other operating ssytem. Test serial ports

Hi to all, I had Kannel working with my mobile phone till last night when my machine crashed because of power fail. I rebooted the machine and the filesystem was checked and corrected, but now when i start Kannel again, with the same configurations and with the same mobile phone it does not work. Apparently kannel can not comunicate with the mobile phone. How do i test my serial ports? How do i check if they are working ok ? Thanks to all in advance. Joao Reis

ksysguard applet: connection settings...?

Hello! I wanted to have a monitoring in the task bar on the hard disk usage of my machine (localhost) and I found out that the ksysguard applet handle should be able to do that. So far so good. I then wanted to set it up. It suggests to drag and drop the sensor into the applet cell. After having done that, it asks for the connection type (ssh, rsh, Deamon, custom). I tried them all but always finish up with a non working sensor (with a small drawing indicating so). The best result I could get was with ssh where I get a message box asking for my password without letting me enter it (there is no filed available). What do I miss? Thanks in advance for your help! Hi, Cannot ftp to myself - anonymous ftp works though. I also did a test with "telnet linuxbox 6XXXX" and does not work either: "Connection refused". It does work in a different machine with Unixwere. I expect to login and get two message lines like these: "Connected to <machine_name>" and "Escape character is '^]'". When I do an "ftp linuxbox" I get the loging prompt for user name and password which I enter but displays the message "530 Login incorrect". I am sure the password is correct because I can telnet on port 23 fine. /etc/xinetd.d/ftpd currently has "disable = no"; before it had "desable = yes" and the error was different "XXX Authentication failed". I wander if I have to change something in the /etc/xinetd.d/pure-ftpd file. This file does not have any "desable" option. There is a "server_args" option but no idea of what to put in there. "finger userx@linuxbox" to myself works fine "telnet linuxbox" works fine (port 23) "telnet linuxbox 79" works fine "telnet linuxbox 1474" does not work "telnet linuxbox 5428" does not work "telnet linuxbox 6????" does not work "ftp otherbox" from myself (linuxbox) works fine "ftp linuxbox" from otherbox does not work "ftp linuxbox" from myself (linuxbox) does not work anonymous ftp to myself works fine. Any ideas? Hugo

RAID software problem under unitedlinux

I'm try to install Suse linux standard server 8 on a IBM x205 with two ide disks ultra ata 133 and I try to setup a software raid configuration (level 1) by Yast. When I reboot the machine, the raid software is not recognized and I don't understand where is my wrong!! Can anyone was tested raid software support under unitedlinux 1.0 from suse or/and in a ibm x205? -- Calogero Bonasia LinuxUser #301822

NFS question

I try to get vi NFS the entire hard disk to another machines special directory. HOWEVER, I fail to do it ;-) A: fstab looks like: 192.168.1.125:/ /mount/old nfs rsize=8192,wsize=8192,timeo=14,intr and on the other machine B: exports: / 192.168.1.254(ro,no_root_squash) I started nfsserver on B. However, nfs does not start on A. Any ideas? bye Ronald

C++ GUI Programming with Qt 3

This is something I've been wanting for a long time: http://www.trolltech.com/products/qt/book.html It may have even been inspired by something I wrote on the QT mailing list. I found C++ hard to learn. Java was easier for me to learn than C++ even though I had formal training in C++ and not in Java. If this book is what it seems to be, it will fill a void that I found in the resources when trying to get started with QT. STH

I suggest you boot from the SuSE rescue System, run YaST and use the partitioner. Make sure that you uncheck "format partition" for the swap partition (that is what mkswap does). After repartitioning, run the commands that I mentioned. You can now do a fresh install, but make sure you tell the installer to use the existing partitions.
