What happens is that in the XF86Config file, the reference to the GENERIC driver provided by SUSE is STILL listed, INSTEAD of "nvidia." I.E., what I, and I think a lot of others have had, is a script that isn't correct. I had ALL of the compile errors from running the nVidia file. dvd burning with suse 9.0

Im using a NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A and suse 9.0. Both with k3b and by manually using growisofs I am not able to burn a DVD susccesfully. That is, I can burn a test DVD with some data (300M orso) , but when trying to burn a full dvd (4G in this case) the dvd burning process dies around 11%. The kernel log complains about hdc irq timeouts and related fun. Any clues ? The box is brand new, and I did check the cabling .. Audio CD Burning - MP3

SuSE Linux 9 Update has no support key

On the box it says that I have some free support, however I don't, as there is no support number on my CD wallet. Has anybody else not got a support key? I am going to email SuSE with my order number etc and tell them I haven't got a number. I odered it direct from SuSE, so maybe someone just forgot to stick one on. thanks George

Hey SuSE Group; I have seen several improvement in 9 over 8.2. However, a new error is coming from /etc/sysconfig/sane about /usr/X11R6/bin/scanimage. It should be /usr/bin/scanimage. Also "ytree" is still wrong. It is showng "?" at the beginings of all files. [SLE] Time Computers

Hi, Well I got 8.2 installed, but can only get into 640x480 res no matter what I do. I downloaded the ATI drivers for xFree 4.3, and that made thing real bad, as I could not get into any graphical environment at all. I have had to re-install 8.2 to put it back. I have had a look at some of the older posts on the ATI 9200 card, and am a bit confused about rebuilding the kernel to suit this card? Is there any simple instructions for getting this card working. Are there any drivers that work apart from the ATI ones? Would it be better to d/l SuSE 9.0 and try that? Laptop upgrade from 8.2 to 9.0 AOK

Having done a fresh 9.0 install on one of my boxes at home, I finally bit the bullet, rsync'd 8.2 on the laptop HD over to the other 9.0 box and decided to do an upgrade on my work laptop (Fujitsu S4546) that amongst lots of other work stuff, has crossover office 2.1.0 supporting MS Office, Lotus Notes etc. Gladly it all went fine, leaving my configs totally intact, even the grub menu.lst and I'm running on the 2.4.23-pre8 kernel I was running on under 8.2. I still have one problem that SuSE gave up trying to find/fix on 8.2, in order for YaST to work, the external floppy drive needs to be connected, otherwise YaST hangs when you try to do anything. With the floppy connected, it searches the floppy first before carrying on normally --- livable with however. So far this is the smoothest upgrade I've encountered on SuSE, with previous ones, something or other refused to work properly, forcing a fresh build. Regards Sid.
