How to install Mplayer using apt

Hi I'm trying to install Mplayer using apt and the ftp://ftp.gwdg.de repository. I checked the necessary components in my source.list but apt still complains about a "Lzo" package. Has anyone installed Mplayer successfully? I'm using suse 9.0 Thanks Gustavo

Where does YOU get its information?

When I run YOU on my 9.0 system, I see that it thinks I am on 8.2. Where does it get this information? Totally lost, dk

9.0's YaST software installation module is borked

I'm getting really strange behavior when trying to install software with YaST under 9.0. Everything installed fine from the DVD, but now I can't seem to get programs added by it. First, it won't go to my DVD ROM drive. I can mount my drive (at /media/dvd) manually, so everything seems right, but YaST can't mount it when I choose "DVD" as a source. So YaST is mixed up about its definition of my DVD ROM. How do I correct this? Furthermore, when I mount the DVD manually, and choose to install software from a directory, it can't see RPM's that I know are there (specfically, rdesktop). It seems that the catalog in YaST's memory is screwed up. How do I clear it out so that it can be reloaded with a new source? Thanks, dk

VMware troubles on SuSE 9.0

Hello everybody, I installed SuSE 9.0 on my laptop yesterday, and tried to use my existing VMware sessions. VMware hangs, and it's not possible to get my mouse and keyboard back from VMware. Is anyone experiencing the same problems or does anyone know a solution to this problem? Ferner brauchen wir auch km_vmware einamlig: cd /usr/src ln -s linux-2.4.21-99 linux cd linux make cloneconfig make dep && make clean cd /usr/src/kernel-modules/vmware make -f Makefile.module dann bei jeder vmware Konfiguration: vmware-config.pl vmware stoppen (/etc/init.d/vmware stop) cd /usr/src/kernel-modules/vmware make -f Makefile.module install vmware starten b) bei selber gebautem Kernel aus SuSE Quellen: das Kernel source-Modul km_vmware installieren. einmalig: cd /usr/src ln -s "dein Kernel dir" linux cd /usr/src/kernel-modules/vmware make -f Makefile.module dann bei jeder vmware Konfiguration: vmware-config.pl vmware stoppen cd /usr/src/kernel-modules/vmware make -f Makefile.module install vmware starten Damit werden die für Deinen Kernel passenden Module erzeugt.

akkadian fonts

Hi everybody, I need to use some akkadian fonts in latex. I have all the fonts and have tried to place them in any imaginable folder i could think of but I still get an error message. i use lyx. is there any special trick to install fonts that i am missing? thanks, eugene.

Motherboard advice

I am about to build another PC to be used as a workstation. I picked up a box of 5 new Seagate SCSI 3 50 gig drives for $250.00 total, so I am thinking of using some them for this. Since SCSI controller boards are about $100.00 or so, I was thinking of using a server mother biard with built in SCSI. A couple of questions: 1. Is the physical format of the mother boards usually the same so they will fit in a standard case? (And what is the standard size?) 2. Any downfalls that you would know of going this route? To Patrick Shanahan, Charles Phillip Chan, and Ken Schneider: Well, gentlemen, I thank you for your effort, but it did not work. I even went into root to find a way to open kprinter and set/save the settings. Then I rebooted, and went and tried the printer. Same old thing with no change whatsoever! I really admire how you all get it work or know how to, where all I get is junk! I have no idea if Suse will ever work on my computer/printer, but I no longer am going to spend money to find out! I am on a fixed budget, as a disabled Veteran with 1 year in Vietnam combat, so I cannot go on spending. It is enough that if it breaks, for me to get it fixed. I have a 1.7gigaherz with 700+ megabyts memory plus 1 40gig C drive and 1 20gig Linux drive. What a waste of space the Linux drive is, I should have stuck with the 6gig I had before, if I was going to use Linux at all!
