Two questions - Cloning CDs and 1280x1024 splash screen - SuSE 8.2 Pro

SuSE linux Pro 8.2 for the Intel (AMD Athlon 1GHz). Cdrecord 2.00.3 (i686-suse-linux) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 Jörg Schilling readcd 2.00.3 (i686-suse-linux) Copyright (C) 1987, 1995-2002 Jörg Schilling What is generally the best tool/options to clone an ISO 9660 disk? It holds an installable WINDOWS program. I tried various options to cdrecord and readcd but the resultant image is not installable. I would like to read the image raw from the CD to a disk image and then write it to a CDR. Is there anywhere is Yast2 to change the initial splash screen size to 1280x1024? How about the initial GRUB boot menu? What VGA mode is this? Installing BJC-2100

To Charles Phillip Chan: Followed your instructions, and found my printer had already been installed using your method. That being the case, I am back to square one, because it still prints off to the right with no word wrap and 2 to 3 inches in from the left. Now, that should get the accusers of whining off my back, this printer and SuSe 8.2 nor ver.9 will work together. If there is something wrong it is with Suse, as I use the same printer with OpenOffice 1.1 in Windows, successfully!

SUSE 9.0 Grub message Geom Error after installation/upgrade of basic system(SOLVED)

For anyone who has a Compaq POS Presario 1260 and is trying to upgrade or install SUSE 9.0, you might get the error message in the subject above. There is some rather cryptic language in the Admin Guide as well as on the net in various places but nothing that simply tells you that the problem may be how your BIOS plays with Large drives ie LBA. After futzing with this problem for several hours, I found a reference in the SDB on Grub hanging when booting from SCSI harddrive. Even though mine is IDE the article indicated the problem could be the way the BIOS tells Grub about the LBA addressing. So I checked what the Compaq bios sets for LBA. It gives you two choices, Other or Dos. Of course this selection had been OTHER since SuSE 7.0 and worked fine til now! The cure was to go into the BIOS and change the selection for large drives from OTHER to DOS. Now if they have fixed the DMA wont enable problem . . . . Hopefully this message may save someone else lots of frustration and allow you to upgrade your machine as I wanted to do. Richard

9.0 Menus

Anyone else have a problem with NOT having all of the listings under your menus? I checked with edit, and there's a lot listed there than don't show up on the desktop. Any fix? Graphical theme during bootup

Hey list. I recently migrated from Mandrake to SuSE 9.0 and all is working like a charm! I have got one minor detail that I would like fixed if possible. I know that in SuSE 8.2 (as well as in Mandrake) it had a graphical theme that showed boot up info instead of just having a black background. Same theme was used when switching to a console window (CTRL+ALT+F*). My question is then: Has this been removed or just not installed/used by default, and if so how do I enable it? TIA, Kasper

Login in 9.0

First, download the new driver from nVidia. Use at the login prompt - the graphical login I ca't seen to get away from! - Ctl Alt F1. Now you can login as root. Then type init 3. This will kill "X". Then run: sh <nVidia file>. Go to /etc/X11 and edit with pico or whatever command line editor you like your XF86Config. What you're looking for is: Section "Device" BoardName "GeForce2 Ti" BusID "1:0:0" Driver "nvidia" Identifier "Device[0]" Screen 0 VendorName "NVidia" EndSection In your file you will probably have "Driver "nv", which is wrong. Change it to "nvidia". Now, run sax2 and make sure 3D is turned on. Exit out as root, login as a user, and you should be good to go. CD R/W suddenly stops working

When she left clicks to play a CD she gets an error message: I/O error; Device not mounted, could not determine file system and none was specified. We've tried everything we can think of. She's looked at the configurations and can't see anything wrong (certainly nothing obvious to her). So we suggested deleting the CD R/W and starting over. Should be a quick and simple reinstall, right? Wrong. For example, we thought that perhaps, somehow the icon on the desktop had lost its linkage to the CD so we suggested deleting the icon and creating a new one. But she can't seem to remove the existing CD R/W icon from her desktop. When she right clicks on the icon and tries to delete there is no delete option. The only options she gets are: open copy add to bookmarks open with.... copy to public folder mount create data cd with K3b copy to edit file type... properties Nothing else is available with a right click. Left click tries to start the CD R/W which leads to I/O error, etc. In addition, she cannot drag the icon to the trash bin. It won't go there. :o) Any ideas on how to get her CD R/W running again with or without a reinstall of the CD? Your suggestions are welcome. Thx. :o) Gil
