I'm getting continuous messages of the following nature in my logs: kernel: e100: eth0 NIC Link is Up 100 Mbps Full duplex kernel: SuSE-FW-ACCEPT IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx SRC=xx.xxx.xxx.xxx DST=xx.xxx.xx.xx LEN=48 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=122 ID=36690 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=3910 DPT=135 WINDOW=16384 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0 OPT (020405B401010402) I'm assuming that the package from my ISP to port 135, is an answer to the sudden link hicking on eth0. Has anyone any information about this? Weather this is something common with e100 cards?

NFS shares and umask

I have a directory on the server, shared by NFS. When I create a file there (through NFS), it has the default rights: 755. I want all the files I create on that share to have the rights: 775 (so that other members of the group can write them). Updating KDE for SuSE 8.1

How does one upgrade KDE for Suse 8.1? Just download all the RPM's and do an rpm -ivh rpm-file.rpm? Do they need to be installed in any particular order? Does the rpm command need to do an upgrade instead of an install of the RPM? -Thanks- Jim

KDE Upgrade and Newbie Question

Hi folks, How do I upgrade to KDE 3.1.4 ? I have just tried apt-get but it gives me only version 3.1.3. I need to download it form kde.org? Isn't it soo many files? Anothr question: There is a way I can right-click a image in Konqueror and set it to desktop background directly, like Win XP does? Thanks for your time, Bruce "Sinner"

APT k_athlon & kernel-sources BROKEN

I followed Mantel's suggestion to use "--nodeps" when installing the above kernel and sources. Now, I can no longer use Apt-get. It wants to uninstall 2 broken packages. Will apt-get work with rpm 4.0.4? Ed Harrison

NetHack 3.4.2 for SuSE 8.2?

The version of NetHack included in SuSE 8.2 is 3.4.0, which is actually kind of old. I can get an official binary from nethack.org, but it's not packaged the same way as the SuSE model, with its multiple user interfaces and the common files. Has anyone made RPMs of 3.4.2 following the SuSE model, or should I just use the official binary until 9.0 comes out?

LKCD and SLES7

Has anyone successfully gotten LKCD 4.1 to run on SLES7 running the 2.4.18-4G kernel and source? I'm using the lkcd-4.1-1-2.4.18.patch file from lkcd.sf.net, but I don't believe it is taking correcty. Anyone have a idea how to retrofit a patch? SuSE 9.0 Questions?

The 9.0 release comes with a "test" 2.6 kernel ----- as well as implementation of the User Mode Linux (UML) kernel patches------- so does that mean that the 2.6 kernel will have a k_deflt kernel and a k_uml kernel? Or does the UML patches only apply to the "standard" 2.4.21 kernel???? 2. I have been checking prices of various 64 bit mobo's and processors; and a person would be insane not to go ahead and spring for it if they were in the market for a new one. IMHO. But, does the 64 bit version also come with the 2.6 kernel and/or UML patches???? All I can say is --------- the next few months are looking mighty exciting. Black Videos after installing ATI Radion driver

Using: SuSe 8.2 ATI Radion 8500 (3Ddiag reported radion QD (1002@5144) Before installing ATI driver fglrx-glc22-4.3.0-3.2.5.i586.rpm from ATI site to get 3D to work. video files played fine via: KMPlayer MPlayer Kaboodle Noatun and Xine after installing the ATI driver 3D worked 3Ddiag reported all OK but there is only a black screen (in window) when playing mpg with any of the video players. Sound from the videos still plays. I have tried 3D enabled and disabled. How should I unistall this driver and revert to the YAST default ? 3D is not so important. Is there something general that has been mal-configured by this driver ? Any suggestions please ? John
