apt-get through http proxy, anybody?

Hi list users! I followed the discussion on apt, and decided to give it a try using it. OK, I installed everything including synaptic, but I definitely have problem with proxy settings. I can not make apt-get nor synaptic work through an http proxy. I managed to make it with other programs (like wget, fou4s etc) but it doesn't work with apt and synaptic. When I try "update", it simply fail to connect to servers from sources.list file. I tried to search through apt users list, but no results while searching for "proxy" there. Or, I may be blind for something obvious here. Even though this might be a little OT for this list, I decided to ask SLE users for any advice for this problem. Big Drive Problem Continues....

Hi all again, Thank you for your responses. I have checked all that you have advised but I have noticed the following: Upon formating the 200GB drive (under SuSE7.2) with ext2 and I mount it on a directory, linux tells me that the space consumbed by the partition is 129,2 GB. I have created one big partition of the total size of the hard disk and formated it. Still though, linux tells me that the total space is not bigger than 130 GB when I execute df at my prompt!!! This sounds very strange! I have also tried to create two different paritions, one being 100G and another being about 90G and still when I mount these two onto directories, I get a total size of no more than 130 Gbytes. I have also tried installing Win9X on it and Windows tells me that the total disk size is about 190Gbytes which is correct. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong here?? Is this a bug in ext2?? I have also checked the bytes that are reserved for root use and it is only 1%, thus not true for the small size that df shows. Thank you all! Chris

I was bumping around this enigmail thing and created a key. But I don't think I'm able to use it right now. Do I have to upload this to some public server or something? What I really wanted to be able to do is create signed email first and then look into doing encrypted email. But for encription is a public server really necessary? I thought I could just ship the recipient the public key.

I have a problem concerning the Mail Managing. I use pine to send my emails. After Configuraing the Domain and Hostname I was able to send my emails but i couldn;t receive any of them. No i changed the Network Services a little through root account and i cannot send email either. Do you know what is going on? I put them all in one directory andd do (as root): rpm -uvh *.rpm 2>&1 | tee text.txt (the later part is to catch any messages during the "install") but I am sure other have ways they find more comfortable... Problem installing SuSE-8.2 on Laptop Toshiba Satellite 400

0CDS Reply-To: X-OS: Linux portable 2.4.10-4GB Hi, 7 months ago I installed SuSE-8.1 on the same Laptop without problem. Installation cardbus Xircom and Usb connections: no problem. Last Sunday I tried with knowers to install Debian Woody with a 2.4 kernel: impossible to install the network and PCMCIA interfaces because Woody Debian did not have xircom_tulip_cb kernel module. No problem to initiate internet connection with Knoppix (how I found the needed kernel module). This morning I wanted to install SuSE-8.2 on the same Laptop (already did it on a box with 2000Gb Athlon-AMD): problems, problems, problems much alike the one I had with Woody Debian. At first reboot: It get stucked when trying to start the kernel pcmcia (solved when removing the cardbus) Impossible to mount an usb mass-storage device: everything get stucked when I type "mount /media/sda1", no messages, it get stucked Windows-like -> hard shutdown. Sometimes at boot I have "resource manager failed". eth-pcmcia is OK activating usb-devices: OK I only managed to boot the installed system by launching it from nr 1 install CDRom. Update download whacked

Hello all, I've been trying to update the latest security patch rpm for GDM2 for about 8 hours and it's not downloading it. I've even tried other servers, and still nothing. I'm also using red-carpet for the latest and greatest Evolution products, and it seems to be hosed too...? The thing is, both these tools were working fine for a week now (hard drive failed and had to do a fresh install on new drive) and they're still working for telling me updates are available, but they don't seem to download anything. I've tried using wget manually, and it still works, so that's not the problem. I've gone to the Duke University mirror for Ximian and tried to download the rug (red carpet) updates manually, but the server just hangs on the download request, as does ftp.ximian.com... I can't really believe that SuSE's servers would be hosed in the same manner... this seems really strange in my opinion. My net connection is pretty rock solid, so I don't think it's that, and I've even done the unthinkable.... I've even rebooted! (still no dice, like I figured, but what the hay?!) Has anyone else been experiencing bad mojo with downloading updates? Does anyone have any ideas on solutions? TIA -- Travis Owens <towens(a)linuxmds.com>

NVidia Geforce FX5600 and Suse 8.2 SOLVED

I solved the problem!!! It was a stupid thing For some strange reason the ACPI support of SuSE was broken in regards to NVidia Drivers...Simply put 'acpi=off' in kernel parameters at boot, and I was done!!! Now my glxgears went up from ~5000fps to an incredible mark of 9666fps!!! Wow!!! Anyone knows how do I see drivers information, at which AGP speed it is running and such? Somebody told me that it was 'cat /proc/driver/Nvidia/AGP/Card' but that dir does no exist..any help! Thanks folks...Bruce out.

URGENTLY NEED HELP - Postfix and spam

I've just noticed in the last two days something has gone horribly wrong with Postfix on SuSE 8.1. My machine has got a massive queue of emails that it is attempting to send to AOL customers that I never sent myself. AOL is refusing connections, so these emails are sitting in the queue. I've just quickly done a few mail relay tests and all passed. Now I'm not sure if it is due to the Spammer being on the same ISP as myself or due to some other problem with Postfix. I had configured it to "Soft Bounce" emails as I've been testing a few things. How can I remove all these emails from the queue, as it is sending hundreds of requests to AOLs mail servers, and this is probably not a good idea. Thanks Adam
