apt-get & suse 8.0 - 1.5Gb download?!!

How do I persuade apt-get that I do not need to download over 1.5Gb as I am running SuSE 8.0 installed onto bare metal? Regards, Sylvanus A. PCMCIA i82365 Problem

We on Suse-ISDN and Suse-Laptop stand in front of this problem: Certain PCMCIA Cards (in my case an ISDN Card from Sedlbauer) are NOT assigned any IRQ, so they do not work. What is your advice there? Which info do you need? I got a text file with 18 kb logs and stuff right here. Had you created a DOS/Windows partition? Or did you let Windows 98 Install just blunder into the horror of a Linux formatted drive? If you don't mind re-installing, just fire up YaST2, ask it to re-partition your drive, and specify a nice DOS partition near the front of the drive (with the remainder allocated to Linux in any proportions that please you). After the dust settles, you should have a DOS partition and a couple (or more) of Linux partitions. (Linux can live happily and comfortably anywhere, but windoze is picky about its lodgings, fearing to stray from the early tracks. Linux can fake a good DOS partition, but Windows can't fake a Linux partition, even if you ask it nicely.) Try the Win98 installation again. It should see the DOS partition and regard the rest of the drive as unknown territory. Or, in worst case, it may insist on reformatting it... but you are going to re-install SuSE, so that won't matter. If that works, then re-install SuSE 8, formatting everything except the DOS/Win drive, and requesting that the loader go in the Master Boot Record. StarOffice 6 Address Data Source Auto Pilot.

So thanks to Dan, my StarOffice 6 is installed as a server install and I have completed a work station install for myself. In starting StarOffice, I get prompted for an already existing source of address data on my system. I use KAddressBook 1.0 (KDE 2.2.1) and JPilot 0.99. Has anyone on the list tried to import data from either one to StarOffice 6 and are they LDAP compliant address books? Cheers, Brian

I've just installed SuSE 8.0. I'm interested in all s/w packages available on SuSE installation kit and from the network. Particularly I'm looking for tools for plotting (version 7.3 had "kpl" ), tools for solving algebraic as well as Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, tools for dealing with stochastic and deterministic simulations. SunOffice 6 newbie install.

I would like to install SunOffice 6 in root so that any user on my computer can get a SunOffice 6 install (i.e. ./setup -net). What I am unsure of is where to do this. The default in the install process is /root/staroffice6.0, but as I have never done this before, I am unsure if this is the directory that is recommended or should be used on my system. I am using SuSE 7.3 Pro. Any tips or advice on completing this installation successfully would also be appreciated. Cheers, Brian

hd recovery

Greetings: One little snag with a 're-install' of SuSE 8.0 and reiserfs. HD's layout: /dev/hda<------------new suse 8.0 install /dev/hdb /hdb1 /home1 (reiser.....backup data) /hdb3 /home2 (reiser....backup data) /hdb2 swap (redundant) Here is the problem /dev/hdb is no longer mountable. Error code is cannot recognize fs when moounting from KDE Desktop or more specifically from mount all the standard errors. So im thinking either something requirded by the reiser fs (new to reiser) is missing to read these partitions or something durring the install re: rewriting of file system occurred. The partitions were not formated by Yast2 rather identified as linux 83 Given the above data, is there any way that I can recover the data? Chris H.

kde3 and ttfonts

Hi guys, I have installed kde3 on Suse 7.2 and all is working as it should. I have also run the scripts fetchmsttfonts and run SuSEconfig after it finished. I've also turned on use AA fonts in the control centre thingy. Now how do I tell if I have AA fonts or not as it looks the same to me :) Thanks Glenn
