Slow grpahics in Games

I've noticed that games I've installed have VERY slow grpahics respose: Chromium, Unreal Tournament, and TuxRacer. I have no idea what the problem is (I suspect it's graphics rendering, but I don't know how to check or modify) nor do I have any idea how to fix the problem. Unfortuantely, the only description of the problem that I can give is SLOW response (i.e. I move the mouse and a second or so later, the subject responds). Any ideas?

LILO: where's the best info on it?

The best info I've seen so far on LILO is the user's guide written by Werner Almsberger. I have a printed version (version 21) dated Dec. 4, 1998. My web searches have only turned up older versions of that; I can't even find the 1998 version on the web. The howto's and man pages seem to have much less information. Any good pointers to LILO docs? Paul

I am experimenting with tightvnc. Does anybody know what protocol does it use to transmit data? I always have "connection refused" when I try to connect to the vnc server, and just wanted to know what I have to do with my firewall. Thanks Prise

Suse 8.0 update fails: nothing to update

I have SuSE 7.1 installed and I'm trying to update it to SuSE 8.0. I make these choices: 1. Select root partition: the partition containing the 7.1 system 2. Update installed packages only When I then proceed, I get a report showing that the installed version is blank and that there are 0 packages to update. How can I get Yast to inventory my current system correctly? I reached this point after several earlier attempts failed and messed up my access to my current system, which is installed on /dev/hde2 (that's because I'm using a Promise controller, but I don't think that's affecting anything). My boot loader is installed on the device itself (/dev/hde) rather than on the partition (/dev/hde2). However, as a result of the earlier attempts it seems that if I get Yast2 to boot from /dev/hde2, which it will, I have a newer kernel than the one I'm using as specified in the /dev/hde boot record. So a natural question to ask, beyond "how do I get the system to update", is: how does Yast2 determine the list of currently installed packages when doing an update? Paul

The only difference in 8.0 is the package version is ucdsnmp-4.2.3-76. If you check out /usr/lib which is where the lib resides. Hi I was trying to find libsnmp, but I do not now where to find it & which rpm it is in there are so many. Is there an easy way findout where a lib resides in which many rpms? Dre :) Luck is my game ;-) Linux is my aim :)

Yast2 problem again

Hi Another mail around Yast2 installation. I didn´t achieve to change the installation media of my SuSe. Maybe is it a unknown bug from Yast2, or it is maybe a known bug, specailly there in the ftp version of Suse 8.0? Yesturday I did a litle reverse enginering to find out why I could not change de Install Media, I just put some extra Message in the Yast2 module, such as MediaUI.ycp and InstMedia.ycp . I find out that for some reason my HardDisk isn´t a valid Installation Device, as responds to the call to SCR::Read(...) in the MountMedia function from InstMedia.ycp . From which file did SCR::Read() read the configuration, I didn´t know the answer, maybe some of you. But there muts be the problem, no......... Carlos Fanfmeier
