yast1 connects yast2 doesn't - why?

Hello! I can do an update from yast1 using ftp without problem but using yast2, I get 'permission denied' or 'rpc timeout' (IIRC). do you have an idea where this could come from? Patrick

What about this alternative: you use freeswan to establish two VPN: when site1 connects to internet it establishes one VPN with site 3; when site2 connects to internet it establishes one VPN with site 3; site 3 routes traffic to the internal network address (fixed) of site 1 and 2 via its corresponding logical VPN interfaces. How to get rid of xconsole on startup

I am annoyed by the little xconsole window each time I log into KDE. Is there a clean way to make that go away? (I am running SuSE 7.1 with KDE2.1). Also, I was under the impression that KDE2.1 provided the option to return to the KDE1 type of "external" taskbar that normally rested at the top of the screen. Whats involved with updating from 6.4 to 7.1

Hi All I know this may require a very detailled explanation, but in a nutshell... whats involved if I have a neatly, configurred 6.4 and I go out and get the new boxed set? Will yast detect my system and go out and upgrade my system ;-> that would be sweet Is 7.1 out yet?? all this talk about 7.1 has piqued my interest thanks rob

I am completely fed up with Outlook Express as a mail reader. Can anyone recommend a replacement to use on my Win98 machine at work? A "problem" exists with SuSE's installation

As many of you know, I've been struggling to get the Beast to reach the WWW via the Sony. There have been major impediments in reaching this goal. First is the fact that even though ip forwarding was set on the Sony, include the '1' stuff, it still wouldn't work. It seems that ipchains doesn't understand ipchains protocol, amazing as that may sound. The install on the Sony started with the default 2.2.18 kernel. I recompiled it to turn off sound (so that I could use the OSS sound) and to enable parport and ppa modules so that I could make the Zip100 drive work. Sound and the Zip drive work well. The ip config settings were default and never changed. ipchains and ipmasq were automatically installed by YaST2 when I installed 7.1 It's disconcerting that, for my hardware, it doesn't work. Well, I've run into YAP (Yet Another Problem). The Beast has an ATPIA CDROM drive, a PleXwriter 8/4/12. For the forth time I reinstalled 7.1 on the Beast. I did so for two reasons: 1) I wanted to install 'everything' and 2) from my readings of what it takes to get the CDRW to burn CDs I have to install the atpia-scsi emulation in the kernel. When I took a look at the /usr/src/linux symbolic link I found it pointing to the 2.4.0 kernel even though I had installed the 2.2.18 kernel. AND, in looking at the /lib/modules/2.2.18 directory I noticed another symbolic link in it that was NOT pointing to the 2.2.18 kernel but was cross-linked to the 2.4.0 kernel. THIS CAN'T BE RIGHT. Basically, when 7.1 installs on my old Sony it slides on like a silk purse (except of the ip forwarding thing). However, getting it to go onto the Beast has been a beast of a fight. It might be worth it to swap the ATPI CDROM for a scsi version and ditto for the Zip250. Another thing I found was that the USB is installed in the kernel even when I have disabled it in the BIOS. SuSE should honor the BIOS settings and not install any software for hardware that the BIOS has disabled. JLK

How to delete duplicate records in MySQL 3.22?

Hello, Linux folkz: Question: Suppose I have a table: Col1 Col2 --------- A A1 A NULL B B1 B NULL C NULL --------- I would like to delete records with duplicate values in Col1 with NULL in Col2 (C, NULL) has to remain. In M$SQL this is done with a query: DELETE FROM table WHERE Col1 IN (SELECT Col1 FROM table GROUP BY Col1 HAVING count(*)>1); MySQL 3.22 does not support sub-queries. Is there a way to do this job without using sub-queries? Thanks. Alex.

insserv: which rpm? (pls execute rpm -qf /sbin/insserv)

Hi. I have upgraded X to X.4.0.3, and when installing 'xf86base' it installs, but complaints at the end about '/sbin/insserv' not found. I can't find where is this utility, and neither in Suse 7.0 cd's. As appears below, it exists. Could someone finding it in his hard this tell me in which package it is? The commands: rpm -qf /sbin/insserv rpm -qf `which insserv` should work. Last time i received many errors while surfing on Web with Netscape 4.76: A network error occurred while Netscape reciving data (Network error: connetion reset by peer). I have SuSE 7.0, kernel 2.2.18, KDE 2.1, XFree 4.02. Please, help me. Mitja
