SuSE 7.1; anti-aliasing w/ ATI Rage Pro AGP 2X

First off, thanks to all those who worked on this release. For the most part, it is superb (except for the annoying /etc/modules.conf bug in YaST2, now fixed). Well worth the price (or the download time). Now, my video card, somewhat old, is an ATI Rage Pro (AGP 2X). Apparently the drivers have not been updated to support the new rendering engine for anti-aliased fonts in XFree86 4.03. This is highly disappointing. Anyone know about this? KDE2.1 System Control icons?

Hello SuSE folkz, It's a very strange ... When I installed KDE 2.0 that came with SuSE7.1 distro I noticed very nice icons in KDE System Control - Control Center. Each one of these icons represented sertain devices: Display Controllers, Drivers e.t.a. After I upgraded to KDE2.1 from SuSE Web site all these nice icons gone. So now I only see a '? mark' icons instead of these device icons. Could somebody tell me please where did they go and how to return them back? Thank you in advance. odd firewall message

I saw the following message in my logs: Mar 23 21:38:30 elendil kernel: Packet log: forward DENY eth0 PROTO=6 172.173.127.222:1056 64.124.157.149:80 L=40 S=0x00 I=56576 F=0x0000 T=127 (#3) eth0 is my cable modem, but neither of the IP addresses match anything on our home LAN. kinternet disconnects

I have SuSE 7.1 Professional and it is the greatest. When I click on the icon in the bottom tray, kinternet dials my ISP, carrier detected, Welcome from my ISP, all the proper led's on my external modem are lit and I'm immediately disconnected. The error message from the log: "Only network users are allowed to logic through this port" I think I have everything configured properly. Am I missing something? jozien

Hi All I 've just signed on to the list - have been reading the archives over a couple of years or so , - since SuSE Linux 5.0 . Now In the process of Updating my system [200PPintell] , from SuSE Linux 70 Professional - > to Use The 2.4.2 kernel series . Have- Gnome- KDE- Kde2- WindowMaker- fvwm2- ALSA -0.5.9d - kernel 2.4.2-4GB - SuSE Linux 7.0 Apps , and System . Sound card ymfpci - The ALSA sound System is Phenomenal . just has some problems recording MIDI From My 'Kawai X-150-D' Synth Keyboard . In order to update ALSA , I have to Up-date The Kernel - I have been reading the list here , and I see that a good Step 1 , is to read the Changes doc in /usr/src/linux/Documentation Sounds Easy So Far Right ? Something tells me that there are some Changes going on right before our eyes . Looks like a Good Thing . Not to worry ; I know that you can't always use mixed distro-rpm's together, but I just want to increase the Kernel, and the ALSA - at this time, Then I buy SuSE 7.2 CDVD's , or later if the ALSA is fixed for the ymfpci - or I do it myself , whatever. OK so I can't install util-linux.rpm - when I'm on the internet reading this list - why? well , so far - I hope it's only that it needs the serial line free , before it can install - Hmmm I've got all the other requirements, as stated in the /usr/src/linux/Documentation - Changes by downloading them from suse-ftp - update, and suse 7.1 directorys. All kidding aside , I would be all set if there were no need to urgently update for Sound Purposes. All the apps, and system stuff I use have a good feel, and look - Linux - SuSE - Has come A Long way since '95 . i did 6.3-> 7.0. booted 7.0 cdrom, followed instructions 'updating with yast1' in the handbook. worked like a charm. Eric... Hi Lisa: It's easier to send stuff this way. Here is a post from slashdot (http://www.slashdot.org) concerning Linuxgruven. In short it certainly appears it was a scam. That is why I do not go to the St. Louis Linux group anymore. Well I might go back in the summer. Also they always covered really esoteric stuff; I think a lot of the presentations were just displays of computer prowess. The speakers wanted to show off. <Shameless Plug> Instead of paying for a class you should just go out and get a Linux distro and install it on your computer at home. It should be easy to make it dual boot. Then you can mess with Vi, EMACS and shell scripts. SuSE 7.1 is available and Mandrake 8.0 will be out in another 6 weeks. DON'T GET RED HAT Linux!! It is really broken. It's configuration tool, Linuxconf, is worthless. Mandrakes Diskdrake configuration tool is a snap to use. I have never done a dual boot install with SuSE so can't say. This might be a good book on Bash: http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/bash2/ Also you might want to go to Borders and check out "Learning the UNIX Operating System", 4th Edition http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/lunix4/ Lisa, if you want you can call me.
