[OT] Need more info about fonts

Hi, I got an interesting project to do, and it is somehow boring to do that by hand: I should make a bitmap of characters with 32 x 16 pixel of each character, of different fonts and that in 2 byte characters or unicode. The suggested way was to open Windows (!!!) use paint and make a new area of 32x16 pixel and "write" with the text tool the character, and save it. I believe that there is a simpler way, maybe there is a way to use the font file directly to "convert" it into that *.bmp format, and if that really does not work, than I would like to have some makro, that could make that for me overnight. Does anybody have more info about fonts, or know where to search about it, or does anybody know a way to make that automatically? Any suggestion welcome! bye Ronald

Hi Maura I see two possible problems: 1) You need to install gimp-devel 2) You need to install flex (This is the one that made the configure script fail) My workstation that the printer is attached to is running RedHat7.2, and my Server is running SUSE, so I have not compiled the gimp-print on SuSE, but I have now run the configure on my SuSE box and it is OK. Funny that SuSE do not install flex as part of the default development tools?? (I also had to install it now) Remember to run the configure with the cups option: ./configure --with-cups Hope this helps :-) PS: I see you had some problems to find the gimp-print download page. I have downloaded the source some time ago, but now I cannot even get to that page.. Glad that you did find it in the end. Win4Lin & 2.4.16 kernel

I have upgraded my kernel to 2.4.16 from the SuSE ftp site. I have downloaded and applied the patch for Kernel-Win4Lin3-2.4.16.patch from Netraverse. When trying to compile I get the error :- ... multiple definition of __kstrtab_sys_mprotect kernel/kernel.o ..... Anybody any idea's what this is and why I am getting it? Phil

Fetchmail question about copying to another user

Hi I know that in some earlier version of fetchmail I was able to get POP3 mail from ISP and copy it to 2 different local user. This does not seem to be possible with the fetchmail that comes with SuSE 7.2. Is that so, or am I missing something? I try to set it up also with webmin, that has the function too, but it only get the e-mails for the last user on the list. Jaska.

If you don't want to do it by hand but use already existing PostScript or TrueType fonts, then you can create .eps files, each containing a single letter (use 2:1 ratio for the bounding box), and then convert them into bitmaps by $ convert -geometry 16x32! chr064.eps chr064.bmp There are many tools that can generate .eps files via scripts. (I use CERN's ROOT http://root.cern.ch/ but it's an overkill for this task.) Also note it's possible to use scripts in Gimp. -- Alexandr.Malusek(a)imv.liu.se

Comanche: Known choices error

Running SuSE 7.3 professional. I have Apache installed along with the Comanche that comes on the CDs. Unfortunately I get the following error when I try to configure it to manage a server: Error trying to add Apache installation /usr/lib/comanche/comanche/../plugins/manager/../apmanager/configuration s/1/apache.conf: Unknown choice: . Known choices: startup startup connect connect I'm sure someone has a clue what is going on. This is a fresh, default installation. Thanx, -Chris

Anybody using ALSA 0.9.0 Beta 10 drivers with emu10k1

I have compiled the latest beta release of the ALSA drivers with my emu10k1 (SB Live), and am only getting sound from the rear speakers. I had to update the tools as well and they did not like the /etc/asound.conf file, so I removed that too. I have tried the ALSA user list for some kind of explanation of this behavior, but alas nothing yet. I am hoping that someone here may have been experimenting with the latest and greatest. Agghh, none of the code is commented. That makes it so much easier to read. I know I wouldn't be employed if I didn't comment. Ah well, long live free software. Thanks for any help.

Hi: Sorry, I know this is way out of topic but since there is lot of experienced people here and I have almost no other place to go (forget M$ mailing lists! if there is such thing) I came here... The thing is that I have this very big word document (1.06mb) that when ever I try to open in office or star office ...it crashes the office suite!!! I have tried some tricks to recover it but I wasnt successful... Any ideas?? THANKS!!! Raul Happy New Year!!

I'm afraid that the same thing happened. I'm using the latest SuSE 2.4.16 sources - should I really use a vanilla source (which presumably I would get from www.kernel.org) I applied the mki adapter patch first with no problem. When I applied the kernel patch, the log gave errors saying that a previous patch was detected (this was a clean kernel source). I tried compiling it anyway and again got the same errors at the "make bzImage" stage - various messages relating to multiple definitions of _kstrtab_sys_mprotect annd others.
